Let all bitterness and anger and wrath and clamor and impious speaking be put away from you, with all malice: and be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.
You have heard that it was said: You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies: bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who insult you and persecute you:
But I say to you that hear: Love your enemies; do good to them that hate you; bless them that curse you; pray for them that abuse you.
Whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother have need, and shuts his heart against him, how dwells the love of God in him?
Hypocrites, does not each one of you, on the sabbath, loose his ox or his ass from the stable, and lead him away, and give him water?
And he answered and said to them: Which of you, if his son or his ox should fall into a pit, would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath-day?
Then will he say to those on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry, and you gave me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; I was a stranger, and you took me not to your houses; naked, and you did not clothe me; I was sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me.
And he sent messengers before his face; and they went, and entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for him. And they did not receive him, because his face was turned toward Jerusalem.
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for, by this means, some have unconsciously entertained angels.
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and any of you say to them, Go in peace, be warmed and be filled, and yet give them not the things that are needful for the body, what does this profit them?
and yet he did not leave himself without testimony, doing good, and giving you rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.
Or, do you despise the riches of his goodness, and his forbearance, and his long suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
Behold, then, the goodness and severity of God: toward them that fell,. severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise, you also shall be cut off.
that he might show, in the ages to come, the exceeding riches of his grace by his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
