We will not buy on the Sabbath or on a holy day from the neighboring peoples who bring their wares and all kinds of grain to sell on the Sabbath day. We will let the fields lie fallow every seventh year, and we will cancel every loan.
The people who do this will be blessed, the people who commit themselves to obedience, who observe the Sabbath and do not defile it, who refrain from doing anything that is wrong.
Today the Lord your God is commanding you to keep these statutes and ordinances, something you must do with all your heart and soul.
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the kingdom of heaven -- only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord,
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and unites with his wife, and they become a new family.
When a man is newly married, he need not go into the army nor be obligated in any way; he must be free to stay at home for a full year and bring joy to the wife he has married.
So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."
To the married I give this command -- not I, but the Lord -- a wife should not divorce a husband (but if she does, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband), and a husband should not divorce his wife.
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.
In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands. Then, even if some are disobedient to the word, they will be won over without a word by the way you live,
Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely, "that it may go well with you and that you will live a long time on the earth."read more.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but raise them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
"Honor your father and your mother, that you may live a long time in the land the Lord your God is giving to you.
"Whoever strikes his father or his mother must surely be put to death.
"'If anyone curses his father and mother he must be put to death. He has cursed his father and mother; his blood guilt is on himself.
and you must teach them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you get up.
Discipline your child, for there is hope, but do not set your heart on causing his death.
Train a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing in the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they will not become disheartened.
He must manage his own household well and keep his children in control without losing his dignity.
But if a widow has children or grandchildren, they should first learn to fulfill their duty toward their own household and so repay their parents what is owed them. For this is what pleases God.
But if someone does not provide for his own, especially his own family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
So you must consecrate the fiftieth year, and you must proclaim a release in the land for all its inhabitants. That year will be your jubilee; each one of you must return to his property and each one of you must return to his clan.
And every daughter who possesses an inheritance from any of the tribes of the Israelites must become the wife of a man from any family in her father's tribe, so that every Israelite may retain the inheritance of his fathers.
If brothers live together and one of them dies without having a son, the dead man's wife must not remarry someone outside the family. Instead, her late husband's brother must go to her, marry her, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law.
He said, 'Permit me to go, for we are having a family sacrifice in the city, and my brother urged me to be there. So now, if I have found favor with you, let me go to see my brothers.' For that reason he has not come to the king's table."
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in every respect, not only when they are watching -- like those who are strictly people-pleasers -- but with a sincere heart, fearing the Lord.
Masters, treat your slaves with justice and fairness, because you know that you also have a master in heaven.
"If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years, but in the seventh year he will go out free without paying anything.
Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart as to Christ,
Those who are under the yoke as slaves must regard their own masters as deserving of full respect. This will prevent the name of God and Christian teaching from being discredited.
Slaves are to be subject to their own masters in everything, to do what is wanted and not talk back,
Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are perverse.
You must not oppress your neighbor or commit robbery against him. You must not withhold the wages of the hired laborer overnight until morning.
You must not oppress a lowly and poor servant, whether one from among your fellow Israelites or from the resident foreigners who are living in your land and villages. You must pay his wage that very day before the sun sets, for he is poor and his life depends on it. Otherwise he will cry out to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty of sin.
"If I have disregarded the right of my male servants or my female servants when they disputed with me, then what will I do when God confronts me in judgment; when he intervenes, how will I respond to him?
