'Crafty' in the Bible
Now the serpent was more crafty (subtle, skilled in deceit) than any living creature of the field which the Lord God had made. And the serpent (Satan) said to the woman, “Can it really be that God has said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”
Isaac said, “Your brother came deceitfully and has [fraudulently] taken away your blessing [for himself].”
But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother; and Jonadab was a very shrewd (cunning) man.
“He frustrates the devices and schemes of the crafty,So that their hands cannot attain success or achieve anything of [lasting] worth.
“For your guilt teaches your mouth,And you choose [to speak] the language of the crafty and cunning.
Those who seek my life lay snares for me,And those who seek to injure me threaten mischievous things and destruction;They devise treachery all the day long.
They concoct crafty schemes against Your people,And conspire together against Your hidden and precious ones.
The fool (the good-for-nothing) will no longer be called noble,Nor the rogue said to be generous.
And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox [that sly, cowardly man], ‘Listen carefully: I cast out demons and perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I reach My goal.’
But be that as it may, I did not burden you [with my support]. But [some say that] I was sly and took you by trickery.
