'Dove' in the Bible
Then he sent out a dove from him, to see if the water was abated from the face of the land;
but the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, so she returned to him into the ark, for the water was on the surface of all the earth. Then he put out his hand and took her, and brought her into the ark to himself.
So he waited yet another seven days; and again he sent out the dove from the ark.
The dove came to him toward evening, and behold, in her beak was a freshly picked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the water was abated from the earth.
Then he waited yet another seven days, and sent out the dove; but she did not return to him again.
I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!I would fly away and be at rest.
When you lie down among the sheepfolds,You are like the wings of a dove covered with silver,And its pinions with glistening gold.
“O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,In the secret place of the steep pathway,Let me see your form,Let me hear your voice;For your voice is sweet,And your form is lovely.”
“I was asleep but my heart was awake.A voice! My beloved was knocking:‘Open to me, my sister, my darling,My dove, my perfect one!For my head is drenched with dew,My locks with the damp of the night.’
But my dove, my perfect one, is unique:She is her mother’s only daughter;She is the pure child of the one who bore her.The maidens saw her and called her blessed,The queens and the concubines also, and they praised her, saying,
“Like a swallow, like a crane, so I twitter;I moan like a dove;My eyes look wistfully to the heights;O Lord, I am oppressed, be my security.
“Leave the cities and dwell among the crags,O inhabitants of Moab,And be like a dove that nestsBeyond the mouth of the chasm.
So Ephraim has become like a silly dove, without sense;They call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him,
Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him;
and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”
John testified saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.
