You shall send away both male and female; you shall send them outside the camp so that they will not defile their camp where I dwell in their midst.”

See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many,

and you shall take possession of the land and live in it, for I have given the land to you to possess.

But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those you let remain of them will be like pricks in your eyes and like thorns in your sides, and they will attack you in the land in which you live.

“Command the Israelites to give to the Levites cities to live in from the inheritance of their possession; and you shall give to the Levites pasture lands around the cities.

The cities shall be theirs to live in; and their pasture lands shall be for their cattle and for their herds and for all their livestock.

You shall not accept a ransom for him who has escaped to his city of refuge, so that he may return to live in his [own] land before the death of the high priest.

You shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I live, for I, the Lord, live among the people of Israel.’”
