'Matters' in the Bible
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Seeing that many did take in hand to set in order a narration of the matters that have been fully assured among us,
Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all the hill country of Judea.
If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters?
Then he said to them, "What are these matters you are discussing so intently as you walk along?" And they stood still, looking sad.
That is the disciple who gives his testimony as to these matters, and has written this history; and we know that his testimony is true.
To the same apostles also, after his suffering, he presented himself alive with many convincing proofs. He was seen by them over a forty-day period and spoke about matters concerning the kingdom of God.
As they were leaving, the people begged that these matters be presented to them the following Sabbath.
But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.
When matters had reached this point, Paul decided in his own mind to travel through Macedonia and Greece, and go to Jerusalem. "After that," he said, "I must also see Rome."
But if ye inquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.
I found out that the accusations were about disputed matters in their law, and that there was no charge that merited death or chains.

But they quarrelled with him about certain matters connected with their own religion, and about one Jesus who had died, but--so Paul persistently maintained--is now alive.
And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.
For the king knows about these matters. It is to him I am actually speaking boldly. For I am convinced that none of these things escapes his notice, since this was not done in a corner.
As for brotherly love, be affectionate to one another; in matters of worldly honour, yield to one another.
I now pass to another subject. Receive as a friend a man whose faith is weak, but not for the purpose of deciding mere matters of opinion.
The faith which you have [that gives you freedom of choice], have as your own conviction before God [just keep it between yourself and God, seeking His will]. Happy is he who has no reason to condemn himself for what he approves.
So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is significant, but God, who keeps everything growing, is the one who matters.
But [as for me personally] it matters very little to me that I may be judged by you or any human court [on this point]; in fact, I do not even judge myself.
Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
Do ye not know that we shall judge angels? and not then matters of this life?
So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church?
Now as to the matters of which you wrote: It is good (beneficial, advantageous) for a man not to touch a woman [outside marriage].
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but what matters is the keeping of the commandments of God.
but the married man is concerned about worldly things, how he may please his wife,
and his interests are divided. The unmarried woman or the virgin is concerned about the matters of the Lord, how to be holy and set apart both in body and in spirit; but a married woman is concerned about worldly things, how she may please her husband.
Now about food sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge [concerning this]. Knowledge [alone] makes [people self-righteously] arrogant, but love [that unselfishly seeks the best for others] builds up and encourages others to grow [in wisdom].
I am speaking as to wise and sensible people; judge [carefully and thoughtfully consider] for yourselves what I say.
If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you gather together you will not come under judgment. And I will give instructions about the other matters whenever I come.
Now concerning what comes from the Spirit: brothers, I do not want you to be unaware.
So also you—since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek to excel in building up the church.
Brothers and sisters, do not be children [immature, childlike] in your thinking; be infants in [matters of] evil [completely innocent and inexperienced], but in your minds be mature [adults].
And we are sending with them our brother whom we have tested many times and found eager in many matters, but who now is much more eager than ever because of the great confidence he has in you.
But I will persist in the same line of conduct in order to cut the ground from under the feet of those who desire an opportunity of getting themselves recognized as being on a level with us in the matters about which they boast.
From those leaders I gained nothing new. Whether they were men of importance or not, matters nothing to me--God recognizes no external distinctions. To me, at any rate, the leaders imparted nothing new.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith working through love.
Those who want to make a good showing in external matters are trying to force you to be circumcised. They do so only to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.
For both circumcision and uncircumcision mean nothing; what matters instead is a new creation.
so that you can approve the things that are superior and can be pure and blameless in the day of Christ,
The only thing that matters is that you continue to live as good citizens in a manner worthy of the gospel of the Messiah. Then, whether I come to see you or whether I stay away, I may hear all about you that you are standing firm in one spirit, struggling with one mind for the faith of the gospel,
Therefore, let no one judge you in matters of food and drink or with respect to a festival, a New Moon, or Sabbath days.
These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.

If anyone fails to provide for his own, and especially for those of his own family, he has denied the faith [by disregarding its precepts] and is worse than an unbeliever [who fulfills his obligation in these matters].

He speaks about these things in all his letters in which there are some matters that are hard to understand. The untaught and unstable twist them to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.
in whatever matters our hearts condemn us--because God is greater than our hearts and knows everything.
Yet these men are abusive in matters of which they know nothing, and in things which, like the brutes, they understand instinctively--in all these they corrupt themselves.
