'Overlays' in the Bible

At that time King Hezekiah of Judah stripped the metal overlays from the doors of the Lord's temple and from the posts which he had plated and gave them to the king of Assyria.

[Like] {impure silver} which overlays an earthen vessel, [so are] smooth lips and an evil heart.

To an idol? A craftsman makes the image, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts silver chains.

He decorates it with overlays of silver and gold. He uses hammer and nails to fasten it together so that it will not fall over.
