Then Moses said to the Lord, “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”

So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “You shall separate everyone who laps the water with his tongue as a dog laps, as well as everyone who kneels to drink.”

“You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue,And you will not be afraid of violence when it comes.

“Is there injustice on my tongue?Cannot my palate discern calamities?

“Though evil is sweet in his mouthAnd he hides it under his tongue,

“Everyone deceives his neighborAnd does not speak the truth,They have taught their tongue to speak lies;They weary themselves committing iniquity.

“Their tongue is a deadly arrow;It speaks deceit;With his mouth one speaks peace to his neighbor,But inwardly he sets an ambush for him.

Then they said, “Come and let us devise plans against Jeremiah. Surely the law is not going to be lost to the priest, nor counsel to the sage, nor the divine word to the prophet! Come on and let us strike at him with our tongue, and let us give no heed to any of his words.”

The tongue of the infant cleavesTo the roof of its mouth because of thirst;The little ones ask for bread,But no one breaks it for them.

Moreover, I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be mute and cannot be a man who rebukes them, for they are a rebellious house.

For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.

One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.

So also you, unless you utter by the tongue speech that is clear, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air.

Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.

If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret;
