In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of Median descent, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans—

“Also I, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I (Gabriel) arose to be an encouragement and a protection for him.

And Daniel remained there until the first year of [the reign of] King Cyrus [over Babylon; now this was at the end of the seventy-year exile of Judah (the Southern Kingdom) in Babylonia, as foretold by Jeremiah].
