2 To know [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction;To discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight,

2 These proverbs are for gaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight;
3 To receive instruction in wise behavior and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness,Righteousness, justice, and integrity;
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
3 for acquiring the discipline that produces wise behavior, righteousness, justice, and upright living;
4 That prudence (good judgment, astute common sense) may be given to the naive or inexperienced [who are easily misled],And knowledge and discretion (intelligent discernment) to the youth,
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
4 for giving prudence to the naive, and knowledge and discretion to the young.
5 The wise will hear and increase their learning,And the person of understanding will acquire wise counsel and the skill [to steer his course wisely and lead others to the truth],(A)
5 A wise man will hear and (I)increase in learning,And a (J)man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,
5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
5 Let the wise listen and increase their learning; let the person of understanding receive guidance
6 To understand a proverb and a figure [of speech] or an enigma with its interpretation,And the words of the wise and their riddles [that require reflection].

11 If they say, “Come with us;Let us lie in wait to shed blood,Let us ambush the innocent without cause;

11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

11 If they say, "Come with us! Let's lie in wait for blood; let's ambush some innocent person for no reason at all.
13 We will find and take all kinds of precious possessions,We will fill our houses with spoil;
13 We will find all kinds of precious wealth,We will fill our houses with spoil;
13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
13 We'll find all kinds of valuable wealth, and we'll fill our houses with spoil.
18 But [when these people set a trap for others] they lie in wait for their own blood;They set an ambush for their own lives [and rush to their destruction].
18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain;Greed takes away the lives of its possessors.(D)

21 She calls out at the head of the noisy streets [where large crowds gather];At the entrance of the city gates she speaks her words:
21 At the head of the noisy streets she cries out;At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:
21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
21 She calls out at the busiest part of the noisy streets, and at the entrance to the gates of the city she utters her words:
22 “How long, O naive ones [you who are easily misled], will you love being simple-minded and undiscerning?How long will scoffers [who ridicule and deride] delight in scoffing,How long will fools [who obstinately mock truth] hate knowledge?
22 “How long, O (g)(AC)naive ones, will you love (h)being simple-minded?And (AD)scoffers delight themselves in scoffingAnd fools (AE)hate knowledge?
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
22 “How long, foolish ones, will you love ignorance?How long will you mockers(X) enjoy mockingand you fools hate knowledge?(Y)
22 "You naive ones, how long will you love naivety And how long will scoffers delight in scoffing or fools hate knowledge?"
23 “If you will turn and pay attention to my rebuke,Behold, I [Wisdom] will pour out my spirit on you;I will make my words known to you.(E)
23 “Turn to my reproof,Behold, I will (AF)pour out my spirit on you;I will make my words known to you.
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
23 If you respond to my warning,(j)(Z)then I will pour out my spirit on you(AA)and teach you my words.
23 Return to my correction! Look, I will pour out my spirit on you, and I will make my words known to you.
24 “Because I called and you refused [to answer],I stretched out my hand and no one has paid attention [to my offer];(F)
24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
24 "Because I called out to you and you refused to respond I appealed, but no one paid attention
27 When your dread and panic come like a storm,And your disaster comes like a whirlwind,When anxiety and distress come upon you [as retribution].
27 When your dread comes like a stormAnd your calamity comes like a (AO)whirlwind,When distress and anguish come upon you.
27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
27 when terror strikes you like a stormand your calamity comes like a whirlwind,when trouble and stress overcome you.
27 when what you dread comes like a storm, and your calamity comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.
28 “Then they will call upon me (Wisdom), but I will not answer;They will seek me eagerly but they will not find me,(G)
28 “Then they will (AP)call on me, but I will not answer;They will (AQ)seek me diligently but they will not find me,
28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

31 “Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own [wicked] wayAnd be satiated with [the penalty of] their own devices.

32 “For the turning away of the (c)naive will kill them,And the careless ease of [self-righteous] fools will destroy them.(I)

33 “But whoever listens to me (Wisdom) will live securely and in confident trustAnd will be at ease, without fear or dread of evil.”
33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
33 "But the person who listens to me will live safely and will be secure from the fear of evil."
