וְנֶ֣פֶשׁ

And a person

כִּֽי־

､ תֶחֱטָ֗א

ṯe·ḥĕ·ṭā,

sins ､

וְשָֽׁמְעָה֙

wə·šā·mə·‘āh

and in hearing

ק֣וֹל

qō·wl

､ אָלָ֔ה

’ā·lāh,

of an oath ､

וְה֣וּא

wə·hū

and is

､ עֵ֔ד

‘êḏ,

א֥וֹ

’ōw

רָאָ֖ה

rā·’āh

א֣וֹ

’ōw

or

､ יָדָ֑ע

yā·ḏā‘;

known [of the matter] ､

אִם־

’im-

if]

ל֥וֹא

lō·w

not

､ יַגִּ֖יד

yag·gîḏ

he does tell [it] ､

וְנָשָׂ֥א

wə·nā·śā

and he bears

. עֲוֺנֽוֹ׃

‘ă·wō·nōw.

[it is] the carcass

חַיָּ֜ה

ḥay·yāh

of an beast

､ טְמֵאָ֗ה

ṭə·mê·’āh,

א֤וֹ

’ōw

or

בְּנִבְלַת֙

bə·niḇ·laṯ

בְּהֵמָ֣ה

bə·hê·māh

､ טְמֵאָ֔ה

ṭə·mê·’āh,

א֕וֹ

’ōw

or

בְּנִבְלַ֖ת

bə·niḇ·laṯ

שֶׁ֣רֶץ

še·reṣ

of creeping things

､ טָמֵ֑א

ṭā·mê;

וְנֶעְלַ֣ם

wə·ne‘·lam

and he is unaware

מִמֶּ֔נּוּ

mim·men·nū,

of it

וְה֥וּא

wə·hū

and he [shall be]

､ טָמֵ֖א

ṭā·mê

. וְאָשֵֽׁם׃

wə·’ā·šêm.

and guilty .

א֣וֹ

’ōw

Or

כִ֤י

ḵî

if

יִגַּע֙

yig·ga‘

בְּטֻמְאַ֣ת

bə·ṭum·’aṯ

､ אָדָ֔ם

’ā·ḏām,

לְכֹל֙

lə·ḵōl

טֻמְאָת֔וֹ

ṭum·’ā·ṯōw,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

יִטְמָ֖א

yiṭ·mā

a man may be defiled

､ בָּ֑הּ

bāh;

with ､

וְנֶעְלַ֣ם

wə·ne‘·lam

and he is unaware

､ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ

mim·men·nū,

of it ､

וְה֥וּא

wə·hū

and when he

יָדַ֖ע

yā·ḏa‘

. וְאָשֵֽׁם׃

wə·’ā·šêm.

then he shall be guilty .

א֣וֹ

’ōw

Or

נֶ֡פֶשׁ

כִּ֣י

kî

if

､ תִשָּׁבַע֩

ṯiš·šā·ḇa‘

לְבַטֵּ֨א

lə·ḇaṭ·ṭê

speaking thoughtlessly

בִשְׂפָתַ֜יִם

ḇiś·p̄ā·ṯa·yim

with [his] lips

､ לְהָרַ֣ע ׀

lə·hā·ra‘

to do evil ､

א֣וֹ

’ōw

or

､ לְהֵיטִ֗יב

lə·hê·ṭîḇ,

to do good ､

לְ֠כֹל

lə·ḵōl

in all

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

whatever [it is]

יְבַטֵּ֧א

yə·ḇaṭ·ṭê

הָאָדָ֛ם

hā·’ā·ḏām

､ בִּשְׁבֻעָ֖ה

biš·ḇu·‘āh

by an oath ､

וְנֶעְלַ֣ם

wə·ne‘·lam

and he is unaware

､ מִמֶּ֑נּוּ

mim·men·nū;

of it ､

וְהוּא־

wə·hū-

and when he

､ יָדַ֥ע

yā·ḏa‘

realizes [it] ､

וְאָשֵׁ֖ם

wə·’ā·šêm

then he shall be guilty

לְאַחַ֥ת

lə·’a·ḥaṯ

in one

. מֵאֵֽלֶּה׃

mê·’êl·leh.

of these [matters] .

וְהָיָ֥ה

wə·hā·yāh

And it shall be

כִֽי־

ḵî-

יֶאְשַׁ֖ם

ye’·šam

he is guilty

לְאַחַ֣ת

lə·’a·ḥaṯ

in one

､ מֵאֵ֑לֶּה

mê·’êl·leh;

of these [matters] ､

וְהִ֨תְוַדָּ֔ה

wə·hiṯ·wad·dāh,

that he shall confess

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

חָטָ֖א

ḥā·ṭā

. עָלֶֽיהָ׃

‘ā·le·hā.

in that [thing] .

וְהֵבִ֣יא

wə·hê·ḇî

And he shall bring

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֲשָׁמ֣וֹ

’ă·šā·mōw

his trespass offering

לַיהוָ֡ה

Yah·weh

עַ֣ל

‘al

חַטָּאתוֹ֩

ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯōw

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

､ חָטָ֜א

ḥā·ṭā

he has committed ､

נְקֵבָ֨ה

nə·qê·ḇāh

מִן־

min-

､ הַצֹּ֥אן

haṣ·ṣōn

the flock ､

כִּשְׂבָּ֛ה

kiś·bāh

אֽוֹ־

’ōw-

or

שְׂעִירַ֥ת

śə·‘î·raṯ

､ עִזִּ֖ים

‘iz·zîm

of the goats ､

– לְחַטָּ֑את

lə·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ;

as a sin offering –

וְכִפֶּ֥ר

wə·ḵip·per

so shall make atonement

עָלָ֛יו

‘ā·lāw

הַכֹּהֵ֖ן

hak·kō·hên

. מֵחַטָּאתֽוֹ׃

mê·ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯōw.

concerning his sin .

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

And if

לֹ֨א

lō

not

תַגִּ֣יע‪‬

ṯag·gî‘

he is able to bring

יָדוֹ֮

yā·ḏōw

-

דֵּ֣י

dê

-

､ שֶׂה֒

śeh

a lamb ､

וְהֵבִ֨יא

wə·hê·ḇî

then he shall bring

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֲשָׁמ֜וֹ

’ă·šā·mōw

for his trespass

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ חָטָ֗א

ḥā·ṭā,

he has committed ､

שְׁתֵּ֥י

šə·tê

､ תֹרִ֛ים

ṯō·rîm

turtledoves ､

אֽוֹ־

’ōw-

or

שְׁנֵ֥י

šə·nê

בְנֵֽי־

ḇə·nê-

､ יוֹנָ֖ה

yō·w·nāh

– לַֽיהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

to Yahweh –

אֶחָ֥ד

’e·ḥāḏ

､ לְחַטָּ֖את

lə·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

as a sin offering ､

וְאֶחָ֥ד

wə·’e·ḥāḏ

and one

. לְעֹלָֽה׃

lə·‘ō·lāh.

as a burnt offering .

וְהֵבִ֤יא

wə·hê·ḇî

And he shall bring

אֹתָם֙

’ō·ṯām

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן

hak·kō·hên,

the priest ､

וְהִקְרִ֛יב

wə·hiq·rîḇ

and who shall offer

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

[that] which [is]

לַחַטָּ֖את

la·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

for the sin offering

､ רִאשׁוֹנָ֑ה

ri·šō·w·nāh;

וּמָלַ֧ק

ū·mā·laq

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

רֹאשׁ֛וֹ

rō·šōw

מִמּ֥וּל

mim·mūl

､ עָרְפּ֖וֹ

‘ā·rə·pōw

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

but not

– יַבְדִּֽיל׃

yaḇ·dîl.

shall divide [it] completely –

וְהִזָּ֞ה

wə·hiz·zāh

and he shall sprinkle

מִדַּ֤ם

mid·dam

[some] of the blood

הַחַטָּאת֙

ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

of the sin offering

עַל־

‘al-

on

קִ֣יר

qîr

the side

– הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ,

of the altar –

וְהַנִּשְׁאָ֣ר

wə·han·niš·’ār

and the rest

בַּדָּ֔ם

bad·dām,

of the blood

יִמָּצֵ֖ה

yim·mā·ṣêh

shall be drained out

אֶל־

’el-

at

יְס֣וֹד

yə·sō·wḏ

the base

– הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ;

of the altar –

חַטָּ֖את

ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

[is] a sin offering

. הֽוּא׃

hū.

it .

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

And

הַשֵּׁנִ֛י

haš·šê·nî

יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה

ya·‘ă·śeh

､ עֹלָ֖ה

‘ō·lāh

[as] a burnt offering ､

. כַּמִּשְׁפָּ֑ט

kam·miš·pāṭ;

according to the prescribed manner .

וְכִפֶּ֨ר

wə·ḵip·per

So shall make atonement

עָלָ֧יו

‘ā·lāw

הַכֹּהֵ֛ן

hak·kō·hên

מֵחַטָּאת֥וֹ

mê·ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯōw

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ חָטָ֖א

ḥā·ṭā

he has committed ､

וְנִסְלַ֥ח

wə·nis·laḥ

and it shall be forgiven

. לֽוֹ׃

בְנֵי־

then shall bring

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

קָרְבָּנ֜וֹ

qā·rə·bā·nōw

for his offering

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

חָטָ֗א

ḥā·ṭā,

עֲשִׂירִ֧ת

‘ă·śî·riṯ

הָאֵפָ֛ה

hā·’ê·p̄āh

of an ephah

סֹ֖לֶת

sō·leṯ

. לְחַטָּ֑את

lə·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ;

as a sin offering .

לֹא־

lō-

יָשִׂ֨ים

yā·śîm

עָלֶ֜יהָ

‘ā·le·hā

on it

､ שֶׁ֗מֶן

še·men,

oil ､

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

יִתֵּ֤ן

yit·tên

עָלֶ֙יהָ֙

‘ā·le·hā

on it

､ לְבֹנָ֔ה

lə·ḇō·nāh,

frankincense ､

כִּ֥י

kî

חַטָּ֖את

ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

[is] a sin offering

. הִֽיא׃

hî.

it .

וֶהֱבִיאָהּ֮

we·hĕ·ḇî·’āh

And he shall bring it

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הַכֹּהֵן֒

hak·kō·hên

the priest ､

וְקָמַ֣ץ

wə·qā·maṣ

הַכֹּהֵ֣ן ׀

hak·kō·hên

מִ֠מֶּנָּה

mim·men·nāh

of it

מְל֨וֹא

mə·lō·w

קֻמְצ֜וֹ

qum·ṣōw

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ אַזְכָּרָתָה֙

’az·kā·rā·ṯāh

as a memorial [portion] ､

וְהִקְטִ֣יר

wə·hiq·ṭîr

and burn [it]

､ הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה

ham·miz·bê·ḥāh,

on the altar ､

עַ֖ל

‘al

אִשֵּׁ֣י

’iš·šê

the offerings made by fire

– יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

to Yahweh –

חַטָּ֖את

ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

[is] a sin offering

. הִֽוא׃

hî

it .

וְכִפֶּר֩

wə·ḵip·per

And shall make atonement

עָלָ֨יו

‘ā·lāw

הַכֹּהֵ֜ן

hak·kō·hên

עַל־

‘al-

חַטָּאת֧וֹ

ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯōw

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

חָטָ֛א

ḥā·ṭā

he has committed

מֵֽאַחַ֥ת

mê·’a·ḥaṯ

in one

､ מֵאֵ֖לֶּה

mê·’êl·leh

of these [matters] ､

וְנִסְלַ֣ח

wə·nis·laḥ

and it shall be forgiven

ל֑וֹ

וְהָיְתָ֥ה

wə·hā·yə·ṯāh

and [The rest] shall be

､ לַכֹּהֵ֖ן

lak·kō·hên

the priest's ､

. כַּמִּנְחָֽה׃

kam·min·ḥāh.

as a grain offering .

Laws for Guilt Offerings

､ לֵּאמֹֽר׃

נֶ֚פֶשׁ

כִּֽי־

if

תִמְעֹ֣ל

ṯim·‘ōl

､ מַ֔עַל

ma·‘al,

וְחָֽטְאָה֙

wə·ḥā·ṭə·’āh

and sins

בִּשְׁגָגָ֔ה

biš·ḡā·ḡāh,

unintentionally

מִקָּדְשֵׁ֖י

miq·qā·ḏə·šê

in regard to the holy things

– יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

of Yahweh –

וְהֵבִיא֩

wə·hê·ḇî

then he shall bring

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֲשָׁמ֨וֹ

’ă·šā·mōw

as his trespass offering

לַֽיהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

אַ֧יִל

’a·yil

תָּמִ֣ים

tā·mîm

without blemish

מִן־

min-

､ הַצֹּ֗אן

haṣ·ṣōn,

the flocks ､

בְּעֶרְכְּךָ֛

bə·‘er·kə·ḵā

with your valuation

､ כֶּֽסֶף־

ke·sep̄-

שְׁקָלִ֥ים

šə·qā·lîm

בְּשֶֽׁקֶל־

bə·še·qel-

of according to the shekel

､ הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ

haq·qō·ḏeš

of the sanctuary ､

– לְאָשָֽׁם׃

lə·’ā·šām.

as a trespass offering –

וְאֵ֣ת

wə·’êṯ

and

אֲשֶׁר֩

’ă·šer

חָטָ֨א

ḥā·ṭā

for the harm he has done

מִן־

min-

in regard to

､ הַקֹּ֜דֶשׁ

haq·qō·ḏeš

the holy thing ､

יְשַׁלֵּ֗ם

yə·šal·lêm,

he shall make restitution

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

חֲמִֽישִׁתוֹ֙

ḥă·mî·ši·ṯōw

יוֹסֵ֣ף

yō·w·sêp̄

､ עָלָ֔יו

‘ā·lāw,

to it ､

וְנָתַ֥ן

wə·nā·ṯan

and give

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

it

. לַכֹּהֵ֑ן

lak·kō·hên;

to the priest .

וְהַכֹּהֵ֗ן

wə·hak·kō·hên,

So the priest

יְכַפֵּ֥ר

yə·ḵap·pêr

shall make atonement

עָלָ֛יו

‘ā·lāw

בְּאֵ֥יל

bə·’êl

with the ram

､ הָאָשָׁ֖ם

hā·’ā·šām

of the trespass offering ､

וְנִסְלַ֥ח

wə·nis·laḥ

and it shall be forgiven

. לֽוֹ׃

､ תֵעָשֶׂ֑ינָה

ṯê·‘ā·śe·nāh;

are to be done ､

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

and not

יָדַ֥ע

yā·ḏa‘

though he does know [it]

､ וְאָשֵׁ֖ם

wə·’ā·šêm

and yet he is guilty ､

וְנָשָׂ֥א

wə·nā·śā

. עֲוֺנֽוֹ׃

‘ă·wō·nōw.

וְ֠הֵבִיא

wə·hê·ḇî

And he shall bring

אַ֣יִל

’a·yil

תָּמִ֧ים

tā·mîm

without blemish

מִן־

min-

､ הַצֹּ֛אן

haṣ·ṣōn

the flock ､

bə·‘er·kə·ḵā

did know [it] ､

וְנִסְלַ֥ח

and it shall be forgiven

Is a trespass offering
