'High Place' in the Bible
They have gone up to the temple and to Dibon, to the high places to weep.Moab wails over Nebo and over Medeba;Everyone’s head is shaved, and every beard is cut off [in mourning].
So it will come to pass when Moab presents himself,When he wearies himself [worshiping] on his high place [of idolatry]And comes to his sanctuary [of Chemosh, god of Moab] to pray,That he will not prevail.
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in and rely on the Lord our God,’ is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar’?
Then you will take pleasure in the Lord,And I will make you ride on the high places of the earth,And I will feed you with the [promised] heritage of Jacob your father; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
