'Back' in the Bible
Take your brother also, and go back at once to the man.
and may God Almighty cause the man to show compassion toward you. May he send all of you back, including your other brother and Benjamin. Now as for me, if I lose my children, I lose them."
and the men are afraid because they have been brought into the house of Joseph, and they say, 'For the matter of the money which was put back in our bags at the commencement are we brought in -- to roll himself upon us, and to throw himself on us, and to take us for servants -- our asses also.'
When we came to the place where we lodged for the night and opened our bags of grain, each one’s money was at the top of his bag! It was the full amount of our money, and we have brought it back with us.
We've also brought along some more money to buy supplies, but we don't know who put our money back into our sacks."
We even brought back to you from the land of Canaan the money we found at the top of our bags. How could we steal gold and silver from your master’s house?
and they rend their garments, and each ladeth his ass, and they turn back to the city.
Joseph was waiting for them back at his palace when his brothers returned. They fell to the ground in front of him,
But Joseph said, "Far be it from me to do this! The man in whose hand the cup was found will become my slave, but the rest of you may go back to your father in peace."
But then you told your servants, "Unless your youngest brother comes back with you, you won't see my face again.'
“This is what happened when we went back to your servant my father: We reported your words to him.
""Go back,' our father ordered, "and buy us a little food.'
"But we told him, "We can't go back there. If our youngest brother accompanies us, we'll go back, but we cannot see the man's face again unless our youngest brother accompanies us.'
"So when I go back to your servant, my father, and the young man isn't with us, since he's constantly living life focused on his son,
when he notices that the young man hasn't come back with us, he'll die, and your servants really will have brought death to your servant, our father, along with his sad, gray hair!
Also, your servant pledged his own life as a guarantee of the young man's safety. I told my father, "If I don't bring him back to you, you can blame me forever.'
Now please let your servant remain here as my lord’s slave, in place of the boy. Let him go back with his brothers.
For how can I go back to my father without the boy? I could not bear to see the grief that would overwhelm my father.”
Then Joseph, unable to keep back his feelings before those who were with him, gave orders for everyone to be sent away, and no one was present when he made clear to his brothers who he was.
So hurry up, go back to my father, and tell him that his son Joseph tells him, "God has made me master of all of Egypt. Hurry up! Come live with me!'
Give my father word of all my glory in Egypt and of all you have seen; and come back quickly with my father.
Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and go on back to the land of Canaan.
Get your father and your families, and come back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you can eat from the richness of the land.’
And say to them, This you are to do: take carts from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and get your father and come back.
Then Joseph sent his brothers away, and they left for home. As they were leaving, Joseph admonished them, "Don't quarrel on the way back!"
And they gave him an account of everything Joseph had said to them; and when he saw the carts which Joseph had sent for them, his spirit came back to him:
I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you back. Joseph will put his hands on your eyes.”
"Your servants are shepherds," they replied, "both we and our ancestors. We've come to live for a while in this region, since there is no pasture back in Canaan for your servants' flocks. May your servants please live in the Goshen territory?"
Then Israel said to Joseph, “Look, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you back to the land of your fathers.
And he saw that rest was good and the land was pleasing; so he let them put weights on his back and became a servant.
"Bandits will raid Gad, but Gad will raid them back."
"My father told me, "Look! I'm about to die. Bury me in my grave that I dug for myself in the land of Canaan." So please let me travel to bury my father. I'll be right back.'"
And Joseph turneth back to Egypt, he and his brethren, and all who are going up with him to bury his father, after his burying his father.
Later, after Joseph's brothers faced the reality of their father's death, they asked themselves, "What happens if Joseph decides to hold a grudge against us? What if he pays us back in full for all the wrong things we did to him?"
