6 Leave your naive ways, and live. Walk in the path of understanding."
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
6 Leave inexperience behind, and you will live;pursue the way of understanding.
6 “Leave [behind] your foolishness [and the foolish] and live,And walk in the way of insight and understanding.”
7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites only insult, and whoever rebukes the wicked will himself become stained.
7 He who (M)corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself,And he who reproves a wicked man gets (e)insults for himself.
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
7 The one who corrects a mockerwill bring dishonor on himself;the one who rebukes a wicked man will get hurt.(a)
7 He who corrects and instructs a scoffer gets dishonor for himself,And he who rebukes a wicked man gets insults for himself.
9 Counsel a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will add to his learning.
9 Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser,Teach a righteous man and he will (P)increase his learning.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
9 Give instruction to a wise man and he will become even wiser;Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.
10 The fear of the LORD is where wisdom begins, and knowing holiness demonstrates understanding.
10 The (Q)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,(L)and the knowledge of the Holy One(M) is understanding.
10 The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of wisdom [its starting point and its essence],And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and spiritual insight.
11 For because of me you will live a long life, and years will be added to your life.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
11 For by Wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
11 For by me (wisdom from God) your days will be multiplied,And years of life shall be increased.
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will assist you. If you mock, you alone will be held responsible.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for your own benefit;(N)if you mock, you alone will bear the consequences.”
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself [for your own benefit];If you scoff [thoughtlessly ridicule and disdain], you alone will pay the penalty.
14 She sits at the entrance of her house, on a seat high above the city.
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
14 She sits by the doorway of her house,on a seat at the highest point of the city,
14 She sits at the doorway of her house,On a seat by the high and conspicuous places of the city,
16 "Whoever is naive, turn in here!" And to anyone lacking sense, she says,
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
16 “Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!”To the one who lacks sense, she says,
16 “Whoever is naive or inexperienced, let him turn in here!”And to him who lacks understanding (common sense), she says,
18 But he does not realize that the dead lurk there, and her invited guests wind up in the depths of Sheol.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
18 But he doesn’t know that the departed spirits are there,(S)that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.(T)
18 But he does not know that the spirits of the dead are there,And that her guests are [already] in the depths of Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).
