It hath been said, whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce.
Again, ye have heard that it hath been said to the antients, "Thou shalt not for swear thy self, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths."
Ye have heard that it hath been said, "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth."
You have heard that it hath been said, "you shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy:"
and Jesus said to him, take care not to tell any man, but go thy way, shew thy self to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, that it may be a testimony against them.
when Jesus heard it, he was surpriz'd, and said to his followers, I profess I have not met with such an instance of faith, no not in Israel.
and Jesus said to the centurion, go thy way, what you believed could be done, is effected for you. and his servant was healed in that very hour.
whereby was fulfilled what Esaias the prophet said, "Himself took our infirmities, and bare, our diseases."

only it was fit you should know that the son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins: arise, then, said he, to the paralytic, take up thy bed, and march home.
As Jesus left that place, he saw one Matthew by name, sitting at the customhouse: and said to him, follow me. and he rose and followed him.

and they were scandaliz'd at him. but Jesus said to them, a prophet is not without honour, except in his own country and in his own family.
and said to his servants, this is John the baptist, he is risen from the dead, and consequently is invested with miraculous power.
for John had said to him, it is not lawful for thee to have her.
who being before instructed by her mother, pray, said she, order John Baptist's head to be brought here in a charger.
but Jesus said to them, that's needless, let them eat what you have.
but Jesus immediately call'd to them, take courage, said he, it is I, don't be afraid.
Peter answered, Lord, said he, if it be you, bid me come upon the water to you.
Jesus said, come. and Peter getting out of the ship, walk'd on the water to go to Jesus.
immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, and caught him, diffident man, said he, why were you in suspence?
Then he called the multitude and said to them, hear and understand.
Thereupon his disciples drawing nigh, said, did you observe, how the Pharisees were scandalized at your discourse?
but Jesus not making her any answer, his disciples came and entreated him to grant her request; for, said they, she is very importunate with us.
'tis true, Lord, said she: yet even puppies eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table.
Then Jesus called his disciples, and said to them, I am concern'd for this people; they have attended me now three days, without eating: I will not send them away fasting, lest they saint by the way. but his disciples said to him,

Then addressing himself to his disciples, if any man, said he, would follow me, let him renounce himself, take up his cross, and so follow me.
then Peter address'd himself to Jesus, Lord, said he, it is good for us to stay here: if you please, let us make three tabernacles here; one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elias.
As they went down the mountain, Jesus gave them this charge, don't speak of the vision, said he, to any body, till the son of man be risen again from the dead: but his disciples asked him,
then came the disciples to Jesus in private, and said, why could not we cast him out?
because of your incredulity, said Jesus: for I tell you truly, if ye had ever so little faith, ye might say to this mountain, remove hence to yonder place, and it should remove; and nothing would be too difficult for you.

And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute for the temple came to Peter, and said, does not your master pay tribute?
he said, yes. and when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, what think you Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of others?
and said, I declare to you, except ye lay aside your ambition, and become as children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of the Messias.
Then Peter advancing to him, said, Lord, if my brother injures me, how many injuries must I forgive him? must I forgive him seven?
but this very servant presently after met with one of his fellow-servants, who owed him an hundred pence: and violently seizing him, said, pay me the debt.
then his lord order'd him to be call'd, and said to him, O thou wicked slave, I forgave thee all thy debt, upon your request:
he said, "for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and be attach'd to his wife: and they two shall be one flesh?"
why then, said they, did Moses permit to give a writ of divorce to repudiate the wife?
thereupon his disciples said, if the case between man and wife be such, it is best not to marry.
but Jesus said, let the children alone, and don't hinder them from coming to me: for of such does the gospel-kingdom consist.
