'Comes' in the Bible
The sun will be turned to darknessand the moon to bloodbefore the great and awe-inspiring Day of the Lord comes.
Amos said: "The Lord comes roaring out of Zion; from Jerusalem he comes bellowing! The shepherds' pastures wilt; the summit of Carmel withers."
It is he who is raining sudden destruction upon the strong like lightning, so that ruin comes upon the fortress.
It will be like a man who runs from a lion, only to encounter a bear; or who comes home, leans his hand against a wall, and a serpent bites him!
Woe to those who are at ease in Zionand to those who feel secure on the hill of Samaria—the notable people in this first of the nations,those the house of Israel comes to.
And it shall come to pass that if there remain ten men in one house, they shall die [by the pestilence that comes with war].
Then one’s uncle, or his undertaker, shall come to bring the [disease-infected] body out of the house, [to cremate it], and he will say to another in the farthest part of the house, “Is there anyone else with you?” And that one will say, “No one.” Then he will respond, “Hush! Keep quiet! For the name of the Lord is not to be mentioned [even casually, for fear that we might invoke even more punishment].”
For behold, the Lord is coming down from His placeHe shall come down and tread [in judgment] on the high places of the earth.
All this comes about due to the transgression of Jacob, and due to the sins of the house of Israel. What is Jacob's sin? It's Samaria, isn't it? And what's Judah's high place? It's Jerusalem, isn't it?
For the inhabitant of Maroth (Bitterness)Writhes in pain [at its losses] and waits anxiously for good,Because a catastrophe has come down from the LordTo the gate of Jerusalem.
"Woe to those who are crafting iniquity, planning evil well into the night! When morning's light comes, they carry out their plans because they have the power to do so.
If a man of wind comesand invents lies:“I will preach to you about wine and beer,”he would be just the preacher for this people!
This One [the Messiah] shall be our peace.When the Assyrian invades our landAnd tramples on our citadels and in our palaces,Then shall we raise against himSeven shepherds and eight princes [an overpowering force] among men.
They shall devastate the land of Assyria with the sword andThe land of Nimrod within her [own] gates.And He (the Messiah) shall rescue us from the Assyrian (all enemy nations)When he attacks our landAnd when he tramples our territory.
When the time comes for rebuilding your walls, that time will surely be extended.
See on the mountains the feet of him who comes with good news, giving word of peace! Keep your feasts, O Judah, give effect to your oaths: for the good-for-nothing man will never again go through you; he is completely cut off.
Your crowned ones are like the locusts, and your scribes like the clouds of insects which take cover in the walls on a cold day, but when the sun comes up they go in flight, and are seen no longer in their place.
This is why the law is ineffectiveand justice never emerges.For the wicked restrict the righteous;therefore, justice comes out perverted.
They are greatly to be feared: their right comes from themselves.
God comes from Teman,the Holy One from Mount Paran.SelahHis splendor covers the heavens,and the earth is full of His praise.
Before Him goes pestilence,And plague comes after Him.
For though the fig-tree has no flowers, and there is no fruit on the vine, and work on the olive comes to nothing, and the fields give no food; and the flock is cut off from its resting-place, and there is no herd in the cattle-house:
"The great Day of the LORD approaches How it comes, hurrying faster and faster! The sound of the Day of the LORD there includes the bitter cry of the mighty soldier.
Before the decree takes effect—The day passes like the chaff—Before the burning anger of the Lord comes upon you,Before the day of the Lord’s anger comes upon you.
“You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?” declares the Lord of hosts, “Because of My house which lies desolate, while each of you runs to his own house.
Then Haggai asked, "If a person who is ritually unclean because of touching a dead body comes in contact with one of these items, will it become unclean?" The priests answered, "It will be unclean."
Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘If it is difficult in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days [in which this comes to pass], will it also be difficult in My sight?’ declares the Lord of hosts.
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!Shout aloud, O Daughter of Jerusalem!Behold, your King (Messianic King) is coming to you;He is righteous and endowed with salvation,Humble and unassuming [in submission to the will of the Father] and riding on a donkey,Upon a colt, the foal of a donkey.
And I said, I will not take care of you: If death comes to any, let death be its fate; if any is cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest take one another's flesh for food.
Behold, a day of Yahweh comes, when your spoil will be divided in your midst.
"Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, behold, he comes!" says Yahweh of Armies.
But who will survive the day when he comes? Or who can stand when he appears? Because he's like a refiner's fire and a launderer's soap,
“For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, and all the arrogant (proud, self-righteous, haughty), and every evildoer shall be stubble; and the day that is coming shall set them on fire,” says the Lord of hosts, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.
Look, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome Day of the Lord comes.
Now in those days comes John the baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
I indeed baptise you with water to repentance, but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not fit to bear; he shall baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire;
Then comes Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptised of him;
But He answered, “It is written:Man must not live on bread alonebut on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.”
If then you are making an offering at the altar and there it comes to your mind that your brother has something against you,
Instead, let your message be "Yes' for "Yes' and "No' for "No.' Anything more than that comes from the evil one."
Give to him who comes with a request, and keep not your property from him who would for a time make use of it.
Then have no care for tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Take the trouble of the day as it comes.
For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command. I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”
When they persecute you in one town, escape to another. For I assure you: You will not have covered the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
What I say to you in the dark, say in the light: and what comes to your ear secretly, say publicly from the house-tops.
Are not sparrows two a farthing? and not one of them comes to an end without your Father:
and said to him, "Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?"
“When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it roams through waterless places looking for rest but doesn’t find any.
Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order.
When anyone hears the word about the kingdom and doesn’t understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one sown along the path.
Yet he has no root in himself, but is short-lived. When pressure or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he stumbles.
but during the night his enemy comes, and over the first seed he sows darnel among the wheat, and goes away.
It’s not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
But what comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this defiles a man.
He answered them: “When evening comes you say, ‘It will be good weather because the sky is red.’
And he answering said to them, Elias indeed comes first and will restore all things.
“But, so we won’t offend them, go to the sea, cast in a fishhook, and take the first fish that you catch. When you open its mouth you’ll find a coin. Take it and give it to them for Me and you.”
Woe to the world because of offenses. For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes.
And if he comes across it, truly I say to you, he has more joy over it than over the ninety-nine which have not gone out of the way.
"Tell the daughter of Zion, behold, your King comes to you, humble, and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."
Then the crowds who went ahead of Him and those who followed kept shouting:Hosanna to the Son of David!He who comes in the nameof the Lord is the blessed One!Hosanna in the highest heaven!
Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?”
Any man falling on this stone will be broken, but he on whom it comes down will be crushed to dust.
For I tell you, you will never see Me again until you say, ‘He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One’!”
See, I have made it clear to you before it comes about.
For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
because just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.
They were unaware of what was happening until the flood came and swept all of them away. That's how it will be when the Son of Man comes.
Watch therefore, for ye know not in what hour your Lord comes.
Wherefore ye also, be ye ready, for in that hour that ye think not the Son of man comes.
That slave whose master finds him working when he comes will be rewarded.
But in the middle of the night there is a cry, The husband comes! Go out to him.
And after a long time the lord of those bondmen comes and reckons with them.
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
"You know that in two days' time the Passover comes. And the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified."
Then Jesus comes with them to a place called Gethsemane, and says to the disciples, Sit here until I go away and pray yonder.
And he comes to the disciples and finds them sleeping, and says to Peter, Thus ye have not been able to watch one hour with me?
Then he comes to the disciples and says to them, Sleep on now and take your rest; behold, the hour has drawn nigh, and the Son of man is delivered up into the hands of sinners.
"He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! If he comes down now from the cross, we will believe in him!
But the rest said, “Let’s see if Elijah comes to save Him!”
If this comes to the governor's ears, we will persuade him and make you free of worry."
And he preached, saying, There comes he that is mightier than I after me, the thong of whose sandals I am not fit to stoop down and unloose.
And there comes to him a leper, beseeching him, and falling on his knees to him, and saying to him, If thou wilt thou canst cleanse me.
And again a crowd comes together, so that they cannot even eat bread.
But some of the seed falls into good ground, and gives a return: it comes up and increases, and yields thirty, sixty, or a hundred-fold."
He answered them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to those outside, everything comes in parables
These are the ones along the path where the word is sown: when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word sown in them.
But they have no root in themselves; they are short-lived. When pressure or persecution comes because of the word, they immediately stumble.
And he said to them, When the light comes in, do people put it under a vessel, or under the bed, and not on its table?
Then He said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By your own standard of measurement [that is, to the extent that you study spiritual truth and apply godly wisdom] it will be measured to you [and you will be given even greater ability to respond]—and more will be given to you besides.
And when sown, it comes up and grows taller than all the vegetables, and produces large branches, so that the birds of the sky can nest in its shade.”
And there comes a violent gust of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it already filled.
And behold there comes one of the rulers of the synagogue, by name Jairus, and seeing him, falls down at his feet;
And he comes to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and sees the tumult, and people weeping and wailing greatly.
And seeing them labouring in rowing, for the wind was contrary to them, about the fourth watch of the night he comes to them walking on the sea, and would have passed them by.
Nothing that goes into a person from the outside can make him unclean. It's what comes out of a person that makes a person unclean.
Then He said, “What comes out of a person—that defiles him.
And he comes to Bethsaida; and they bring him a blind man, and beseech him that he might touch him.
For whoever is ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
He said to them, "Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised?
