'Holy' in the Bible
Alas, sinful nation,People weighed down with iniquity,Offspring of evildoers,Sons who act corruptly!They have abandoned the Lord,They have despised the Holy One of Israel,They have turned away from Him.
It will come about that he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy—everyone who is recorded for life in Jerusalem.
But the Lord of hosts will be exalted in judgment,And the holy God will show Himself holy in righteousness.
Who say, “Let Him make speed, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it;And let the purpose of the Holy One of Israel draw nearAnd come to pass, that we may know it!”
Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes stubbleAnd dry grass collapses into the flame,So their root will become like rot and their blossom blow away as dust;For they have rejected the law of the Lord of hostsAnd despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
And one called out to another and said,“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts,The whole earth is full of His glory.”
“Yet there will be a tenth portion in it,And it will again be subject to burning,Like a terebinth or an oakWhose stump remains when it is felled.The holy seed is its stump.”
“It is the Lord of hosts whom you should regard as holy.And He shall be your fear,And He shall be your dread.
And the light of Israel will become a fire and his Holy One a flame,And it will burn and devour his thorns and his briars in a single day.
Now in that day the remnant of Israel, and those of the house of Jacob who have escaped, will never again rely on the one who struck them, but will truly rely on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.
They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LordAs the waters cover the sea.
Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.
In that day man will have regard for his MakerAnd his eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel.
It will come about also in that day that a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were perishing in the land of Assyria and who were scattered in the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
The afflicted also will increase their gladness in the Lord,And the needy of mankind will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
But when he sees his children, the work of My hands, in his midst,They will sanctify My name;Indeed, they will sanctify the Holy One of JacobAnd will stand in awe of the God of Israel.
“Get out of the way, turn aside from the path,Let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”
Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel,“Since you have rejected this wordAnd have put your trust in oppression and guile, and have relied on them,
For thus the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said,“In repentance and rest you will be saved,In quietness and trust is your strength.”But you were not willing,
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for helpAnd rely on horses,And trust in chariots because they are manyAnd in horsemen because they are very strong,But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the Lord!
“Whom have you reproached and blasphemed?And against whom have you raised your voiceAnd haughtily lifted up your eyes?Against the Holy One of Israel!
“To whom then will you liken MeThat I would be his equal?” says the Holy One.
“Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel;I will help you,” declares the Lord, “and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
“You will winnow them, and the wind will carry them away,And the storm will scatter them;But you will rejoice in the Lord,You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.
That they may see and recognize,And consider and gain insight as well,That the hand of the Lord has done this,And the Holy One of Israel has created it.
“For I am the Lord your God,The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;I have given Egypt as your ransom,Cush and Seba in your place.
Thus says the Lord your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel,“For your sake I have sent to Babylon,And will bring them all down as fugitives,Even the Chaldeans, into the ships in which they rejoice.
“I am the Lord, your Holy One,The Creator of Israel, your King.”
Thus says the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker:“Ask Me about the things to come concerning My sons,And you shall commit to Me the work of My hands.
Our Redeemer, the Lord of hosts is His name,The Holy One of Israel.
“For they call themselves after the holy cityAnd lean on the God of Israel;The Lord of hosts is His name.
Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel,“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit,Who leads you in the way you should go.
Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and its Holy One,To the despised One,To the One abhorred by the nation,To the Servant of rulers,“Kings will see and arise,Princes will also bow down,Because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You.”
Awake, awake,Clothe yourself in your strength, O Zion;Clothe yourself in your beautiful garments,O Jerusalem, the holy city;For the uncircumcised and the uncleanWill no longer come into you.
The Lord has bared His holy armIn the sight of all the nations,That all the ends of the earth may seeThe salvation of our God.
“For your husband is your Maker,Whose name is the Lord of hosts;And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel,Who is called the God of all the earth.
“Behold, you will call a nation you do not know,And a nation which knows you not will run to you,Because of the Lord your God, even the Holy One of Israel;For He has glorified you.”
Even those I will bring to My holy mountainAnd make them joyful in My house of prayer.Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar;For My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.”
“When you cry out, let your collection of idols deliver you.But the wind will carry all of them up,And a breath will take them away.But he who takes refuge in Me will inherit the landAnd will possess My holy mountain.”
For thus says the high and exalted OneWho lives forever, whose name is Holy,“I dwell on a high and holy place,And also with the contrite and lowly of spiritIn order to revive the spirit of the lowlyAnd to revive the heart of the contrite.
“If because of the sabbath, you turn your footFrom doing your own pleasure on My holy day,And call the sabbath a delight, the holy day of the Lord honorable,And honor it, desisting from your own ways,From seeking your own pleasureAnd speaking your own word,
“Surely the coastlands will wait for Me;And the ships of Tarshish will come first,To bring your sons from afar,Their silver and their gold with them,For the name of the Lord your God,And for the Holy One of Israel because He has glorified you.
“The sons of those who afflicted you will come bowing to you,And all those who despised you will bow themselves at the soles of your feet;And they will call you the city of the Lord,The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
And they will call them, “The holy people,The redeemed of the Lord”;And you will be called, “Sought out, a city not forsaken.”
But they rebelledAnd grieved His Holy Spirit;Therefore He turned Himself to become their enemy,He fought against them.
Then His people remembered the days of old, of Moses.Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock?Where is He who put His Holy Spirit in the midst of them,
Look down from heaven and see from Your holy and glorious habitation;Where are Your zeal and Your mighty deeds?The stirrings of Your heart and Your compassion are restrained toward me.
Your holy people possessed Your sanctuary for a little while,Our adversaries have trodden it down.
Your holy cities have become a wilderness,Zion has become a wilderness,Jerusalem a desolation.
Our holy and beautiful house,Where our fathers praised You,Has been burned by fire;And all our precious things have become a ruin.
“But you who forsake the Lord,Who forget My holy mountain,Who set a table for Fortune,And who fill cups with mixed wine for Destiny,
The wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will do no evil or harm in all My holy mountain,” says the Lord.
Then they shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as a grain offering to the Lord, on horses, in chariots, in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the Lord, “just as the sons of Israel bring their grain offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord.
