'Free' in the Bible
And make us free of our debts, as we have made those free who are in debt to us.
Go and learn what this [Scripture] means: ‘I desire compassion [for those in distress], and not [animal] sacrifice,’ for I did not come to call [to repentance] the [self-proclaimed] righteous [who see no need to change], but sinners [those who recognize their sin and actively seek forgiveness].”
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with skin diseases, drive out demons. You have received free of charge; give free of charge.
And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever is fixed by you on earth will be fixed in heaven: and whatever you make free on earth will be made free in heaven.
Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
Truly I say to you, Whatever things are fixed by you on earth will be fixed in heaven: and whatever you make free on earth will be made free in heaven.
And the lord of that servant, being moved with pity, let him go, and made him free of the debt.
Then his lord sent for him and said, You evil servant; I made you free of all that debt, because of your request to me:
They say to him, Why then did Moses give orders that a husband might give her a statement in writing and be free from her?
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many [paying the price to set them free from the penalty of sin].”
Now at the feast [of the Passover] the governor was in the habit of setting free any one prisoner whom the people chose.
So when they had assembled [for this purpose], Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to set free for you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
But the ruler made answer and said to them, Which of the two is it your pleasure that I let go free? And they said, Barabbas.
So he set Barabbas free for them; but after having Jesus severely whipped (scourged), he handed Him over to be crucified.
You who would give the Temple to destruction and put it up again in three days, get yourself free: if you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.
and if this be heard by the governor, we will persuade him, and you keep free from anxiety.'
When Jesus heard this, He said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but [only] those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners [who recognize their sin and humbly seek forgiveness].”
“Daughter,” He said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be free from your affliction.”
But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
And they said to him, Moses let us give her a statement in writing, and be free from her.
Now at the [Passover] feast Pilate used to set free for them any one prisoner whom they requested.
Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to set free for you the King of the Jews?”
But the people were moved by the chief priests to make him let Barabbas go free.
So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, set Barabbas free for them; and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over [to his soldiers] to be crucified.
The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God.
"Blessed be the Lord God of Israel! He has taken care of his people and has set them free.
That we, being made free from the fear of those who are against us, might give him worship,
The Spirit of the Lord is on Me,because He has anointed Meto preach good news to the poor.He has sent Meto proclaim freedom to the captivesand recovery of sight to the blind,to set free the oppressed,
to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the favor of God abound greatly].”
And it came about that on one of these days he was teaching; and some Pharisees and teachers of the law were seated there, who had come from every town of Galilee and Judaea and from Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was with him, to make those who were ill free from their diseases.
I did not come to call the [self-proclaimed] righteous [who see no need to repent], but sinners to repentance [to change their old way of thinking, to turn from sin and to seek God and His righteousness].”
Don't judge, and you won't be judged. Don't condemn, and you won't be condemned. Set free, and you will be set free.
At that very hour Jesus healed many people of sicknesses and infirmities and evil spirits; and He gave [the gracious gift of] sight to many who were blind.
When they were unable to make payment, he made the two of them free of their debts. Which of them, now, will have the greater love for him?
And certain women who had been made free from evil spirits and diseases, Mary named Magdalene, from whom seven evil spirits had gone out,
And they went away, journeying through all the towns, preaching the good news and making people free from diseases in all places.
May we have forgiveness for our sins, as we make free all those who are in debt to us. And let us not be put to the test.
Then He said to them, “Watch out and guard yourselves against every form of greed; for not even when one has an overflowing abundance does his life consist of nor is it derived from his possessions.”
For while you are going with your opponent [at law] to appear before a magistrate, on the way make an effort to settle, so that he does not drag you before the judge, and the judge does not [rule against you and] turn you over to the officer, and the officer does not throw you into prison.
Never, I tell you, will you get free till you have paid the last farthing."
When Jesus saw her, He called out to her, “Woman, you are free of your disability.”
Therefore the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Doesn't each one of you free his ox or his donkey from the stall on the Sabbath, and lead him away to water?
Shouldn't this woman, a descendant of Abraham whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the Sabbath day?"
But with loud voices they said all together, Put this man to death, and make Barabbas free.
And Pilate again said to them that it was his desire to let Jesus go free.
And in answer to their request, he let that man go free who had been in prison for acting against the government and causing death, and Jesus he gave up to their pleasure.
And saying, If you are the King of the Jews, get yourself free.
But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel and set our nation free. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.
"If you had known God's free gift," replied Jesus, "and who it is that said to you, 'Give me some water,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
I know that ye are Abraham's seed: yet ye seek to kill me, because my word hath not free course in you.
Out came the man who had been dead, his hands and feet tightly wrapped in burial cloths (linen strips), and with a [burial] cloth wrapped around his face. Jesus said to them, “Unwrap him and release him.”
But every year you make a request to me to let a prisoner go free at the Passover. Is it your desire that I let the King of the Jews go free?
Then Pilate said to him, You say nothing to me? is it not clear to you that I have power to let you go free and power to put you to death on the cross?
Hearing this, Pilate had a desire to let him go free, but the Jews said in a loud voice, If you let this man go, you are not Caesar's friend: everyone who makes himself a king goes against Caesar.
Any to whom you give forgiveness, will be made free from their sins; and any from whom you keep back forgiveness, will still be in their sins.
But God gave him back to life, having made him free from the pains of death because it was not possible for him to be overcome by it.
The God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has given glory to his servant Jesus; whom you gave up, turning your backs on him, when Pilate had made the decision to let him go free.
And when they had been made free, they came back to their friends, and gave an account of all the things which the chief priests and the authorities had said to them.
And made him free from all his troubles, and gave him wisdom and the approval of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who made him ruler over Egypt and all his house.
Truly, I have seen the sorrows of my people in Egypt, and their cries have come to my ears, and I have come down to make them free: and now, come, I will send you to Egypt.
But Peter told him, "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could obtain God's free gift with money!
All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.
And through him everyone who has faith is made free from all those things, from which the law of Moses was not able to make you free.
that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell.”
Go with these, and make yourself clean with them, and make the necessary payments for them, so that they may be free from their oath: and everyone will see that the statements made about you are not true, but that you put yourself under rule, and keep the law.
But with regard to the Gentiles who have believed [in Christ], we have sent them a letter with our decision that they should abstain from meat sacrificed to idols and from [consuming] blood and from [the meat of] what has been strangled and from sexual immorality.”
And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.
But on the day after, desiring to have certain knowledge of what the Jews had to say against him, he made him free, and gave orders for the chief priests and all the Sanhedrin to come together, and he took Paul and put him before them.
Agrippa told Festus, "This man could have been set free if he hadn't appealed to the emperor."
So they cut the anchors free and left them in the sea. At the same time they untied the ropes that held the steering oars, raised the foresail to the wind, and headed for the beach.
who, when they had examined me, desired to set me free, because there was no cause of death in me.
gaining acquittal from guilt by His free unpurchased grace through the deliverance which is found in Christ Jesus.
whereas in the case of a man who pleads no actions of his own, but simply believes in Him who declares the ungodly free from guilt, his faith is placed to his credit as righteousness.
If therefore we have now been pronounced free from guilt through His blood, much more shall we be delivered from God's anger through Him.
But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
for if by the offence of the one the death did reign through the one, much more those, who the abundance of the grace and of the free gift of the righteousness are receiving, in life shall reign through the one -- Jesus Christ.
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
for he who hath died hath been set free from the sin.
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in union with the Messiah Jesus our Lord.
for the married woman to the living husband hath been bound by law, and if the husband may die, she hath been free from the law of the husband;
So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
But now we are free from the law, having been made dead to that which had power over us; so that we are servants in the new way of the spirit, not in the old way of the letter.
Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
that the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage of corruption into the glorious freedom of God’s children.
and those whom He has pre-destined He also has called; and those whom He has called He has also declared free from guilt; and those whom He has declared free from guilt He has also crowned with glory.
Who shall impeach those whom God has chosen? God declares them free from guilt.
And so all Israel will get salvation: as it is said in the holy Writings, There will come out of Zion the One who makes free; by him wrongdoing will be taken away from Jacob:
For God does not repent of His free gifts nor of His call;
Who will give you strength to the end, to be free from all sin in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Get rid of the old yeast so that you may be a new batch of dough, since you are to be free from yeast. For the Messiah, our Passover, has been sacrificed.
