1 Well, my very first counsel is that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving, are to be offered for all men ??2 for kings and all in authority, that we may lead a tranquil life in all piety and gravity;
1 First of all, then, I urge that (A)entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
1 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone,
1 First of all, then, I urge you to offer to God petitions, prayers, intercessions, and expressions of thanks for all people,
2 it is good to pray thus, it is acceptable to our Saviour,
2 (B)for kings and all who are in (a)authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and (b)dignity.
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
2 for kings and all those who are in authority,(A) so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness(B) and dignity.(C)
2 for kings, and for everyone who has authority, so that we might lead a quiet and peaceful life with all godliness and dignity.
5 the man Christ Jesus who gave himself as a ransom for all": ??in due time this was attested,
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
5 For there is one God(H)and one mediator(I) between God and humanity,Christ Jesus, Himself human,(J)
5 There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and human beings a human, the Messiah Jesus.
7 Now I want the men to offer prayer at any meeting of the church; and let the hands they lift to heaven be holy ??they must be free from anger and dissension.
7 (M)For this I was appointed a (f)preacher and (N)an apostle ((O)I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of (P)the Gentiles in faith and truth.
7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
7 For this I was appointed a herald, an apostle(L) (I am telling the truth;(a) I am not lying), and a teacher of the Gentiles(M) in faith and truth.
7 For this reason I was appointed to be an announcer, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the gentiles. (I am telling you the truth. I am not lying.)
8 Women in turn are to dress modestly and quietly in seemly garb; they are not to adorn themselves with plaits of hair, with gold or pearls or expensive finery,
8 Therefore (Q)I want the men (R)in every place to pray, (S)lifting up (T)holy hands, without wrath and dissension.
8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
8 Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.(N)
8 Therefore, I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without being angry or argumentative.
9 but with good deeds (as befits women who make a religious profession).
9 Likewise, I want (U)women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, (g)modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,
9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
9 Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing,(O) with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold,(P) pearls, or expensive apparel,
9 Women, for their part, should display their beauty by dressing modestly and decently in appropriate clothes, not with elaborate hairstyles or by wearing gold, pearls, or expensive clothes,
10 A woman must listen quietly in church and be perfectly submissive;
10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
10 but through good actions. This is proper for women who claim to revere God.
12 For Adam was created first, then Eve;
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
12 I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is to be silent.
12 Moreover, in the area of teaching, I am not allowing a woman to instigate conflict toward a man. Instead, she is to remain calm.
14 However, women will get safely through childbirth if they continue to be faithful and loving and holy as well as unassuming.
14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but (Y)the woman being deceived, (i)fell into transgression.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
14 and it was not Adam who was deceived. It was the woman who was deceived and became disobedient,
