3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
3 By wisdom a house is built; it is made secure through understanding.
3 Through [skillful and godly] wisdom a house [a life, a home, a family] is built,And by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation],
4 by knowledge the rooms are filledwith every precious and beautiful treasure.
4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
4 By knowledge its rooms are furnished with all sorts of expensive and beautiful goods.

6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellers there is safety.
6 For through wise counsel you will wage your war, and victory lies in an abundance of advisors.
6 For by wise guidance you can wage your war,And in an abundance of [wise] counselors there is victory and safety.
11 (O)Deliver those who are being taken away to death,And those who are staggering to slaughter, Oh hold them back.
11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
11 Rescue those who are being led away to death, and save those who stumble toward slaughter.
11 Rescue those who are being taken away to death,And those who stagger to the slaughter, Oh hold them back [from their doom]!
12 If you say, “But we didn’t know about this,”won’t He who weighs hearts(K) consider it?Won’t He who protects your life(L) know?Won’t He repay a person according to his work?(M)
12 If you say, “See, we did not know this,”Does He not (P)consider it (Q)who weighs the hearts?And (R)does He not know it who (S)keeps your soul?And will He not (f)(T)render to man according to his work?
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
12 If you say, "Look here, we didn't know about this," doesn't God, who examines motives, discern it? Doesn't the one who guards your soul know about it? Won't he repay each person according to what he has done?
12 If you [claim ignorance and] say, “See, we did not know this,”Does He not consider it who weighs and examines the hearts and their motives?And does He not know it who guards your life and keeps your soul?And will He not repay [you and] every man according to his works?
13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
13 My son, eat honey, because it's good for you; indeed, drippings from the honeycomb are sweet to your taste;
13 My son, eat honey, because it is good,And the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste.
14 realize that wisdom is the same for you.(P)If you find it, you will have a future,and your hope will never fade.(Q)
14 Know that (W)wisdom is thus for your soul;If you find it, then there will be a (g)(X)future,And your hope will not be cut off.
14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
14 Keep in mind that wisdom is like that for your soul; if you find it, there will be a future for you, and what you hope for won't be cut short.
14 Know that [skillful and godly] wisdom is [so very good] for your life and soul;If you find wisdom, then there will be a future and a reward,And your hope and expectation will not be cut off.
15 (Y)Do not lie in wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous;Do not destroy his resting place;
15 Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
15 Don't lie in wait like an outlaw to attack where the righteous live;

16 Though a righteous man falls seven times,he will get up,(S)but the wicked will stumble into ruin.(T)
16 For a (Z)righteous man falls seven times, and rises again,But the (AA)wicked stumble in time of calamity.
16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
16 for though a righteous man falls seven times, he will rise again, but the wicked stumble into calamity.
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
17 Don't rejoice when your enemy falls; don't let yourself be glad when he stumbles.
17 Do not rejoice and gloat when your enemy falls,And do not let your heart be glad [in self-righteousness] when he stumbles,
18 or the Lord will see, be displeased,and turn His wrath away from him.
18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
18 Otherwise the LORD will observe and disapprove, and he will turn his anger away from him.
18 Or the Lord will see your gloating and be displeased,And turn His anger away from your enemy.
20 For (AE)there will be no (i)(AF)future for the evil man;The (AG)lamp of the wicked will be put out.
20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
20 For the wicked man has no future; the lamp of the wicked will be extinguished.
20 For there will be no future for the evil man;The lamp of the wicked will be put out.
21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
21 My son, fear both the LORD and the king, and don't keep company with rebels.
21 My son, fear the Lord and the king;And do not associate with those who are given to change [of allegiance, and are revolutionary],
22 for destruction from them will come suddenly;who knows what distress these two can bring?
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
22 They will be destroyed suddenly, and who knows what kind of punishment will come from these two?
22 For their tragedy will rise suddenly,And who knows the punishment that both [the Lord and the king] will bring on the rebellious?
24 Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent”(AB)—people will curse him,(AC) and tribes will denounce him;
24 He (AL)who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,”(AM)Peoples will curse him, nations will abhor him;
24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
24 Whoever says to the wicked, "You're in the right," will be cursed by people and hated by nations.
24 He who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,”Peoples will curse him, nations will denounce him;
25 but it will go well with those who convict the guilty,and a generous blessing will come to them.
25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
25 But as for people who rebuke the wicked; a good blessing will fall upon them.
25 But to those [honorable judges] who rebuke the wicked, it will go well with them and they will find delight,And a good blessing will come upon them.
27 Prepare your work outsideAnd (AO)make it ready for yourself in the field;Afterwards, then, build your house.
27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
27 First do your outside work, preparing your land for yourself. After that, build your house.
29 (AR)Do not say, “Thus I shall do to him as he has done to me;I will (m)render to the man according to his work.”
29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
29 Don't say, "I'll do to him like he did to me, I'll be sure to pay him back for what he did."
30 I went by the field of a slackerand by the vineyard of a man lacking sense.
30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
30 I went by the field belonging to a lazy man, by a vineyard belonging to a senseless person.
30 I went by the field of the lazy man,And by the vineyard of the man lacking understanding and common sense;
31 And behold, it was completely (AT)overgrown with thistles;Its surface was covered with (o)(AU)nettles,And its stone (AV)wall was broken down.
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
31 There it was, overgrown with thistles, the ground covered with thorns, its stone wall collapsed.
31 And, behold, it was all overgrown with thorns,And nettles were covering its surface,And its stone wall was broken down.
33 a little sleep, a little slumber,a little folding of the arms to rest,
33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
33 "A little sleep! A little slumber! A little folding of my hands to rest!"
