וְאַתָּ֣ה

and you

､ אָדָ֗ם

’ā·ḏām,

of man ､

כֹּה־

kōh-

אָמַ֞ר

’ā·mar

אֲדֹנָ֧י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

יְהוִ֛ה

Yah·weh

לְאַדְמַ֥ת

lə·’aḏ·maṯ

to the land

– יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

of Israel –

､ קֵ֑ץ

qêṣ;

An end ､

בָּ֣א

bā

הַקֵּ֔ץ

haq·qêṣ,

the end

עַל־

‘al-

[ארבעת]

’ar·ba·‘aṯ

(אַרְבַּ֖ע)

’ar·ba‘

כַּנְפ֥וֹת

kan·p̄ō·wṯ

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

of the land .

עַתָּה֙

‘at·tāh

הַקֵּ֣ץ

haq·qêṣ

the end [has come]

עָלַ֔יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ,

וְשִׁלַּחְתִּ֤י

wə·šil·laḥ·tî

and I will send

אַפִּי֙

’ap·pî

בָּ֔ךְ

bāḵ,

וּשְׁפַטְתִּ֖יךְ

ū·šə·p̄aṭ·tîḵ

and I will judge you

､ כִּדְרָכָ֑יִךְ

kiḏ·rā·ḵā·yiḵ;

according to your ways ､

וְנָתַתִּ֣י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

and I will repay

עָלַ֔יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ,

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

כָּל־

kāl-

. תּוֹעֲבֹתָֽיִךְ׃

tō·w·‘ă·ḇō·ṯā·yiḵ.

for your abominations .

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

And not

תָח֥וֹס

ṯā·ḥō·ws

will spare

עֵינִ֛י

‘ê·nî

My eye

עָלַ֖יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

– אֶחְמ֑וֹל

’eḥ·mō·wl;

will I have pity –

כִּ֣י

kî

but

דְרָכַ֜יִךְ

ḏə·rā·ḵa·yiḵ

עָלַ֣יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ

on

אֶתֵּ֗ן

’et·tên,

I will repay

וְתוֹעֲבוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙

wə·ṯō·w·‘ă·ḇō·w·ṯa·yiḵ

and your abominations

בְּתוֹכֵ֣ךְ

bə·ṯō·w·ḵêḵ

תִּֽהְיֶ֔יןָ

tih·ye·nā,

will be

וִידַעְתֶּ֖ם

wî·ḏa‘·tem

then you shall know

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I [am]

אֵלָ֑יִךְ

､ הִנֵּ֖ה

. בָּאָֽה׃

בָּ֧אָה

הַצְּפִירָ֛ה

haṣ·ṣə·p̄î·rāh

אֵלֶ֖יךָ

’ê·le·ḵā

to you

יוֹשֵׁ֣ב

yō·wō·šêḇ

you who dwell in

. הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the land .

､ בָּ֣א

bā

הָעֵ֗ת

hā·‘êṯ,

the time

､ קָר֛וֹב

qā·rō·wḇ

[is] near ､

הַיּ֥וֹם

hay·yō·wm

מְהוּמָ֖ה

mə·hū·māh

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

and not

הֵ֥ד

hêḏ

of rejoicing in

. הָרִֽים׃

hā·rîm.

the mountains .

עַתָּ֣ה

‘at·tāh

מִקָּר֗וֹב

miq·qā·rō·wḇ,

אֶשְׁפּ֤וֹךְ

’eš·pō·wḵ

I will pour out

חֲמָתִי֙

ḥă·mā·ṯî

עָלַ֔יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ,

וְכִלֵּיתִ֤י

wə·ḵil·lê·ṯî

אַפִּי֙

’ap·pî

בָּ֔ךְ

bāḵ,

וּשְׁפַטְתִּ֖יךְ

ū·šə·p̄aṭ·tîḵ

and I will judge you

､ כִּדְרָכָ֑יִךְ

kiḏ·rā·ḵā·yiḵ;

according to your ways ､

וְנָתַתִּ֣י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

and I will repay

עָלַ֔יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ,

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

. תּוֹעֲבוֹתָֽיִךְ׃

your abominations .

וְלֹא־

And not

､ תָח֥וֹס

ṯā·ḥō·ws

will spare ､

עֵינִ֖י

‘ê·nî

My eye

וְלֹ֣א

. אֶחְמ֑וֹל

’eḥ·mō·wl;

will I have pity .

כִּדְרָכַ֜יִךְ

kiḏ·rā·ḵa·yiḵ

According to your ways

עָלַ֣יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ

אֶתֵּ֗ן

’et·tên,

I will repay

וְתוֹעֲבוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙

wə·ṯō·w·‘ă·ḇō·w·ṯa·yiḵ

and your abominations

בְּתוֹכֵ֣ךְ

bə·ṯō·w·ḵêḵ

תִּֽהְיֶ֔יןָ

tih·ye·nā,

will be

וִֽידַעְתֶּ֕ם

wî·ḏa‘·tem

then you shall know

כִּ֛י

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I [am]

יְהוָ֖ה

. מַכֶּֽה׃

mak·keh.

הִנֵּ֥ה

hin·nêh

､ הַיּ֖וֹם

hay·yō·wm

the day ､

､ הִנֵּ֣ה

hin·nêh

! בָאָ֑ה

ḇā·’āh;

– יָֽצְאָה֙

yā·ṣə·’āh

has gone out –

הַצְּפִרָ֔ה

haṣ·ṣə·p̄i·rāh,

､ צָ֚ץ

ṣāṣ

has blossomed ､

הַמַּטֶּ֔ה

ham·maṭ·ṭeh,

the rod

פָּרַ֖ח

pā·raḥ

. הַזָּדֽוֹן׃

haz·zā·ḏō·wn.

הֶחָמָ֥ס ׀

he·ḥā·mās

קָ֖ם

qām

לְמַטֵּה־

lə·maṭ·ṭêh-

. רֶ֑שַׁע

re·ša‘;

of wickedness .

לֹא־

lō-

מֵהֶ֞ם

mê·hem

of them [shall remain]

וְלֹ֧א

wə·lō

and none

､ מֵהֲמוֹנָ֛ם

mê·hă·mō·w·nām

of their multitude ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and none

､ מֶהֱמֵהֶ֖ם

me·hĕ·mê·hem

of them ､

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

נֹ֥הַּ

nō·ah

[shall there be] wailing

. בָּהֶֽם׃

bā·hem.

､ בָּ֤א

bā

הָעֵת֙

hā·‘êṯ

the time

. הִגִּ֣יעַ

hig·gî·a‘

הַיּ֔וֹם

hay·yō·wm,

The day

הַקּוֹנֶה֙

haq·qō·w·neh

אַל־

’al-

not

､ יִשְׂמָ֔ח

yiś·māḥ,

let rejoice ､

וְהַמּוֹכֵ֖ר

wə·ham·mō·w·ḵêr

and the seller

אַל־

’al-

– יִתְאַבָּ֑ל

yiṯ·’ab·bāl;

כִּ֥י

kî

חָר֖וֹן

ḥā·rō·wn

wrath [is]

אֶל־

’el-

on

כָּל־

kāl-

. הֲמוֹנָֽהּ׃

hă·mō·w·nāh.

their multitude .

כִּ֣י

kî

הַמּוֹכֵ֗ר

ham·mō·w·ḵêr,

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הַמִּמְכָּר֙

ham·mim·kār

what has been sold ､

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יָשׁ֔וּב

yā·šūḇ,

וְע֥וֹד

wə·‘ō·wḏ

and Though still

בַּחַיִּ֖ים

ba·ḥay·yîm

he may be alive

– חַיָּתָ֑ם

ḥay·yā·ṯām;

of his life –

כִּֽי־

kî-

חָז֤וֹן

ḥā·zō·wn

אֶל־

’el-

כָּל־

kāl-

הֲמוֹנָהּ֙

hă·mō·w·nāh

לֹ֣א

lō

not

– יָשׁ֔וּב

yā·šūḇ,

and it shall turn back –

וְאִ֧ישׁ

wə·’îš

and

בַּעֲוֺנ֛וֹ

ba·‘ă·wō·nōw

חַיָּת֖וֹ

ḥay·yā·ṯōw

לֹ֥א

lō

. יִתְחַזָּֽקוּ׃

yiṯ·ḥaz·zā·qū.

one will strengthen himself .

The Desolation of Israel

תָּקְע֤וּ

tā·qə·‘ū

They have blown

､ בַתָּק֙וֹעַ֙

ḇat·tā·qō·w·a‘

the trumpet ､

וְהָכִ֣ין

wə·hā·ḵîn

– הַכֹּ֔ל

hak·kōl,

וְאֵ֥ין

wə·’ên

but no one

הֹלֵ֖ךְ

hō·lêḵ

､ לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה

lam·mil·ḥā·māh;

to battle ､

כִּ֥י

kî

חֲרוֹנִ֖י

ḥă·rō·w·nî

My wrath [is]

אֶל־

’el-

on

כָּל־

kāl-

. הֲמוֹנָֽהּ׃

hă·mō·w·nāh.

their multitude .

הַחֶ֣רֶב

ha·ḥe·reḇ

The sword [is]

､ בַּח֔וּץ

ba·ḥūṣ,

וְהַדֶּ֥בֶר

wə·had·de·ḇer

and the pestilence

וְהָרָעָ֖ב

wə·hā·rā·‘āḇ

. מִבָּ֑יִת

mib·bā·yiṯ;

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

’ă·šer

בַּשָּׂדֶה֙

baś·śā·ḏeh

in the field

– בַּחֶ֣רֶב

ba·ḥe·reḇ

by the sword –

יָמ֔וּת

yā·mūṯ,

will die

וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר

wa·’ă·šer

and whoever [is]

､ בָּעִ֔יר

bā·‘îr,

in the city ､

רָעָ֥ב

rā·‘āḇ

וָדֶ֖בֶר

wā·ḏe·ḇer

. יֹאכֲלֶֽנּוּ׃

yō·ḵă·len·nū.

will devour him .

וּפָֽלְטוּ֙

ū·p̄ā·lə·ṭū

And will escape

､ פְּלִ֣יטֵיהֶ֔ם

pə·lî·ṭê·hem,

Those who survive ､

וְהָי֣וּ

wə·hā·yū

and be

אֶל־

’el-

on

הֶהָרִ֗ים

he·hā·rîm,

כְּיוֹנֵ֧י

kə·yō·w·nê

､ הַגֵּאָי֛וֹת

hag·gê·’ā·yō·wṯ

of the valleys ､

כֻּלָּ֖ם

kul·lām

､ הֹמ֑וֹת

hō·mō·wṯ;

אִ֖ישׁ

’îš

. בַּעֲוֺנֽוֹ׃

ba·‘ă·wō·nōw.

for his iniquity .

כָּל־

kāl-

הַיָּדַ֖יִם

hay·yā·ḏa·yim

､ תִּרְפֶּ֑ינָה

tir·pe·nāh;

will be feeble ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

בִּרְכַּ֖יִם

bir·ka·yim

תֵּלַ֥כְנָה

tê·laḵ·nāh

will be [as] weak

. מָּֽיִם׃

mā·yim.

[as] water .

וְחָגְר֣וּ

wə·ḥā·ḡə·rū

And they will be girded

､ שַׂקִּ֔ים

śaq·qîm,

with sackcloth ､

וְכִסְּתָ֥ה

wə·ḵis·sə·ṯāh

and will cover

אוֹתָ֖ם

’ō·w·ṯām

פַּלָּצ֑וּת

pal·lā·ṣūṯ;

וְאֶ֤ל

wə·’el

and on

כָּל־

kāl-

､ פָּנִים֙

pā·nîm

face ､

בּוּשָׁ֔ה

bū·šāh,

Shame [will be]

וּבְכָל־

ū·ḇə·ḵāl

and on all

רָאשֵׁיהֶ֖ם

rā·šê·hem

. קָרְחָֽה׃

qā·rə·ḥāh.

כַּסְפָּ֞ם

kas·pām

､ בַּחוּצ֣וֹת

ba·ḥū·ṣō·wṯ

into the streets ､

יַשְׁלִ֗יכוּ

yaš·lî·ḵū,

they will throw

וּזְהָבָם֮

ū·zə·hā·ḇām

– לְנִדָּ֣ה

lə·nid·dāh

like refuse –

יִֽהְיֶה֒

yih·yeh

will be

כַּסְפָּ֨ם

kas·pām

וּזְהָבָ֜ם

ū·zə·hā·ḇām

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

יוּכַ֣ל

yū·ḵal

will be able

לְהַצִּילָ֗ם

lə·haṣ·ṣî·lām,

to deliver them

בְּיוֹם֙

bə·yō·wm

in the day

עֶבְרַ֣ת

‘eḇ·raṯ

of the wrath

. יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

､ נַפְשָׁם֙

nap̄·šām

Their souls ､

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יְשַׂבֵּ֔עוּ

yə·śab·bê·‘ū,

they will satisfy

､ וּמֵעֵיהֶ֖ם

ū·mê·‘ê·hem

and their stomachs ､

לֹ֣א

lō

יְמַלֵּ֑אוּ

yə·mal·lê·’ū;

כִּֽי־

kî-

מִכְשׁ֥וֹל

miḵ·šō·wl

block stumbling

עֲוֺנָ֖ם

‘ă·wō·nām

of their iniquity

. הָיָֽה׃

hā·yāh.

וּצְבִ֤י

ū·ṣə·ḇî

And as for the beauty

､ עֶדְיוֹ֙

‘eḏ·yōw

of his ornaments ､

､ לְגָא֣וֹן

lə·ḡā·’ō·wn

in majesty ､

שָׂמָ֔הוּ

śā·mā·hū,

He set it

וְצַלְמֵ֧י

wə·ṣal·mê

but the images

תוֹעֲבֹתָ֛ם

ṯō·w·‘ă·ḇō·ṯām

of their abominations

שִׁקּוּצֵיהֶ֖ם

šiq·qū·ṣê·hem

their detestable things

עָ֣שׂוּ

‘ā·śū

ב֑וֹ

ḇōw;

עַל־

‘al-

כֵּ֛ן

kên

נְתַתִּ֥יו

nə·ṯat·tîw

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

. לְנִדָּֽה׃

lə·nid·dāh.

וּנְתַתִּ֤יו

ū·nə·ṯat·tîw

And I will give it

בְּיַֽד־

bə·yaḏ-

הַזָּרִים֙

haz·zā·rîm

､ לָבַ֔ז

lā·ḇaz,

as plunder ､

וּלְרִשְׁעֵ֥י

ū·lə·riš·‘ê

and to the wicked

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

of the earth

– לְשָׁלָ֑ל

lə·šā·lāl;

as spoil –

[וחללה]

wə·ḥil·lə·lu·hā

-

. (וְחִלְּלֽוּהוּ׃)

wə·ḥil·lə·lū·hū.

and they shall defile it .

וַהֲסִבּוֹתִ֤י

wa·hă·sib·bō·w·ṯî

And I will turn

פָנַי֙

p̄ā·nay

מֵהֶ֔ם

mê·hem,

וְחִלְּל֖וּ

wə·ḥil·lə·lū

and they will defile

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

צְפוּנִ֑י

ṣə·p̄ū·nî;

My secret place

וּבָאוּ־

ū·ḇā·’ū-

for shall enter

בָ֥הּ

ḇāh

it

פָּרִיצִ֖ים

pā·rî·ṣîm

. וְחִלְּלֽוּהָ׃

wə·ḥil·lə·lū·hā.

and defile it .

עֲשֵׂ֖ה

‘ă·śêh

､ הָֽרַתּ֑וֹק

hā·rat·tō·wq;

a chain ､

כִּ֣י

kî

הָאָ֗רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

the land

מָֽלְאָה֙

mā·lə·’āh

is filled with

､ מִשְׁפַּ֣ט

miš·paṭ

דָּמִ֔ים

dā·mîm,

וְהָעִ֖יר

wə·hā·‘îr

and the city

מָלְאָ֥ה

mā·lə·’āh

. חָמָֽס׃

ḥā·mās.

וְהֵֽבֵאתִי֙

wə·hê·ḇê·ṯî

Therefore I will bring

רָעֵ֣י

rā·‘ê

､ גוֹיִ֔ם

ḡō·w·yim,

of the Gentiles ､

וְיָרְשׁ֖וּ

wə·yā·rə·šū

and they will possess

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

. בָּֽתֵּיהֶ֑ם

bāt·tê·hem;

– וְהִשְׁבַּתִּי֙

wə·hiš·bat·tî

And I will cause to cease –

גְּא֣וֹן

gə·’ō·wn

the pomp

עַזִּ֔ים

‘az·zîm,

of the strong

וְנִחֲל֖וּ

wə·ni·ḥă·lū

and shall be defiled

. מְקַֽדְשֵׁיהֶֽם׃

mə·qaḏ·šê·hem.

their holy places .

קְפָ֖דָה־

qə·p̄ā·ḏāh-

– בָ֑א

ḇā;

וּבִקְשׁ֥וּ

ū·ḇiq·šū

and they will seek

､ שָׁל֖וֹם

šā·lō·wm

. וָאָֽיִן׃

wā·’ā·yin.

but [there shall be] none .

הֹוָ֤ה

hō·wāh

עַל־

‘al-

､ הֹוָה֙

hō·wāh

תָּב֔וֹא

tā·ḇō·w,

will come

וּשְׁמֻעָ֥ה

ū·šə·mu·‘āh

אֶל־

’el-

– שְׁמוּעָ֖ה

šə·mū·‘āh

תִּֽהְיֶ֑ה

tih·yeh;

will be

וּבִקְשׁ֤וּ

ū·ḇiq·šū

and they will seek

חָזוֹן֙

ḥā·zō·wn

– מִנָּבִ֔יא

min·nā·ḇî,

from a prophet –

וְתוֹרָה֙

wə·ṯō·w·rāh

but the law

תֹּאבַ֣ד

tō·ḇaḏ

､ מִכֹּהֵ֔ן

mik·kō·hên,

from the priest ､

וְעֵצָ֖ה

wə·‘ê·ṣāh

. מִזְּקֵנִֽים׃

miz·zə·qê·nîm.

from the elders .

הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

The king

､ יִתְאַבָּ֗ל

yiṯ·’ab·bāl,

will mourn ､

וְנָשִׂיא֙

wə·nā·śî

and the prince

יִלְבַּ֣שׁ

yil·baš

will be clothed with

､ שְׁמָמָ֔ה

šə·mā·māh,

וִידֵ֥י

wî·ḏê

and the hands

עַם־

‘am-

of the people

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

. תִּבָּהַ֑לְנָה

tib·bā·hal·nāh;

will tremble .

､ מִדַּרְכָּ֞ם

mid·dar·kām

According to their way ､

אֶעֱשֶׂ֤ה

’e·‘ĕ·śeh

I will do

אוֹתָם֙

’ō·w·ṯām

וּבְמִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶ֣ם

ū·ḇə·miš·pə·ṭê·hem

and according to what they deserve

אֶשְׁפְּטֵ֔ם

’eš·pə·ṭêm,

I will judge them

וְיָדְע֖וּ

wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū

and they shall know

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I [am]

. יְהוָֽה׃
