､ בַּשִּׁטִּ֑ים

in Shittim ､

וַיָּ֣חֶל

way·yā·ḥel

הָעָ֔ם

hā·‘ām,

לִזְנ֖וֹת

liz·nō·wṯ

to commit harlotry

אֶל־

’el-

with

בְּנ֥וֹת

bə·nō·wṯ

. מוֹאָֽב׃

mō·w·’āḇ.

of Moab .

וַתִּקְרֶ֣אןָ

wat·tiq·re·nā

And they invited

לָעָ֔ם

lā·‘ām,

לְזִבְחֵ֖י

lə·ziḇ·ḥê

to the sacrifices of

､ אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ן

’ĕ·lō·hê·hen;

､ וַיֹּ֣אכַל

way·yō·ḵal

and ate ､

הָעָ֔ם

hā·‘ām,

וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֖וּ‪‬

way·yiš·ta·ḥăw·wū

. לֵֽאלֹהֵיהֶֽן׃

lê·lō·hê·hen.

to their gods .

וַיִּצָּ֥מֶד

way·yiṣ·ṣā·meḏ

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

לְבַ֣עַל

lə·ḇa·‘al

to

– פְּע֑וֹר

pə·‘ō·wr;

and was aroused

the sun ､

וְיָשֹׁ֛ב

that may turn away

And when saw [it]

､ פִּֽינְחָס֙

､ אֶלְעָזָ֔ר

of Eleazar ､

the son

אַהֲרֹ֖ן

､ הַכֹּהֵ֑ן

the priest ､

וַיָּ֙קָם֙

and he rose

מִתּ֣וֹךְ

､ הָֽעֵדָ֔ה

the congregation ､

וַיִּקַּ֥ח

and took

– בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

in his hand –

and he went
