וַֽיְהִי֙
way·hî
And it came to pass
בִּשְׁנַ֣ת
biš·naṯ
in the year
אַרְבַּ֔ע
’ar·ba‘,
､ לְדָרְיָ֖וֶשׁ
lə·ḏā·rə·yā·weš
of Darius ､
הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ
ham·me·leḵ;
הָיָ֨ה
hā·yāh
דְבַר־
ḏə·ḇar-
the word
יְהוָ֜ה
Yah·weh
אֶל־
’el-
to
זְכַרְיָ֗ה
zə·ḵar·yāh,
בְּאַרְבָּעָ֛ה
bə·’ar·bā·‘āh
on the four [day]
､ לַחֹ֥דֶשׁ
la·ḥō·ḏeš
of month ､
הַתְּשִׁעִ֖י
hat·tə·ši·‘î
the ninth
– בְּכִסְלֵֽו׃
bə·ḵis·lêw.

וַיִּשְׁלַח֙
way·yiš·laḥ
and when [the people] sent
בֵּֽית־
bêṯ-
[to]
אֵ֔ל
’êl,
שַׂר־
śar-
-
אֶ֕צֶר
’e·ṣer
וְרֶ֥גֶם
wə·re·ḡem
and
､ מֶ֖לֶךְ
me·leḵ
with Regem-melech ､
וַֽאֲנָשָׁ֑יו
wa·’ă·nā·šāw;
and his men
לְחַלּ֖וֹת
lə·ḥal·lō·wṯ
to pray
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
פְּנֵ֥י
pə·nê
. יְהוָֽה׃
Yah·weh.

לֵאמֹ֗ר
lê·mōr,
[and] to ask
אֶל־
’el-
הַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙
hak·kō·hă·nîm
אֲשֶׁר֙
’ă·šer
לְבֵית־
lə·ḇêṯ-
in the house
יְהוָ֣ה
Yah·weh
､ צְבָא֔וֹת
ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ,
of hosts ､
וְאֶל־
wə·’el-
and
､ הַנְּבִיאִ֖ים
han·nə·ḇî·’îm
the prophets ､
､ לֵאמֹ֑ר
lê·mōr;
saying ､
הַֽאֶבְכֶּה֙
ha·’eḇ·keh
､ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ
ba·ḥō·ḏeš
in month ､
הַחֲמִשִׁ֔י
ha·ḥă·mi·šî,
the fifth
､ הִנָּזֵ֕ר
hin·nā·zêr
and fast ､
כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר
ka·’ă·šer
as
עָשִׂ֔יתִי
‘ā·śî·ṯî,
זֶ֖ה
zeh
this [is]
כַּמֶּ֥ה
kam·meh
؟ שָׁנִֽים׃
šā·nîm.

and came
דְּבַר־

צְבָא֖וֹת

to me
､ לֵאמֹֽר׃
lê·mōr.
saying ､

אֱמֹר֙
’ĕ·mōr
אֶל־
’el-
to
כָּל־
kāl-
עַ֣ם
‘am
the people
､ הָאָ֔רֶץ
hā·’ā·reṣ,
of the land ､
וְאֶל־
wə·’el-
and to
､ הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים
hak·kō·hă·nîm
the priests ､
､ לֵאמֹ֑ר
lê·mōr;
saying ､
כִּֽי־
kî-
צַמְתֶּ֨ם
ṣam·tem
וְסָפ֜וֹד
wə·sā·p̄ō·wḏ
בַּחֲמִישִׁ֣י
ba·ḥă·mî·šî
in the fifth
וּבַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י
ū·ḇaš·šə·ḇî·‘î,
and in the seventh [month]
וְזֶה֙
wə·zeh
and this [is]
שִׁבְעִ֣ים
šiḇ·‘îm
､ שָׁנָ֔ה
šā·nāh,
years ､
הֲצ֥וֹם
hă·ṣō·wm
צַמְתֻּ֖נִי
ṣam·tu·nî
؟ אָֽנִי׃
’ā·nî.
for Me ؟

וְכִ֥י
wə·ḵî
and when
､ תֹאכְל֖וּ
ṯō·ḵə·lū
you eat ､
וְכִ֣י
wə·ḵî
and when
､ תִשְׁתּ֑וּ
ṯiš·tū;
הֲל֤וֹא
hă·lō·w
do not
אַתֶּם֙
’at·tem
הָאֹ֣כְלִ֔ים
hā·’ō·ḵə·lîm,
וְאַתֶּ֖ם
wə·’at·tem
and you
. הַשֹּׁתִֽים׃
haš·šō·ṯîm.

הַדְּבָרִ֗ים
had·də·ḇā·rîm,
אֲשֶׁ֨ר
’ă·šer
קָרָ֤א
qā·rā
יְהוָה֙

בְּיַד֙

､ הַנְּבִיאִ֣ים
han·nə·ḇî·’îm
the prophets ､
הָרִֽאשֹׁנִ֔ים
hā·ri·šō·nîm,
בִּהְי֤וֹת
bih·yō·wṯ
יְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙
yə·rū·šā·lim
יֹשֶׁ֣בֶת
yō·še·ḇeṯ
､ וּשְׁלֵוָ֔ה
ū·šə·lê·wāh,
and prosperous ､
וְעָרֶ֖יהָ
wə·‘ā·re·hā
and the cities
סְבִיבֹתֶ֑יהָ
sə·ḇî·ḇō·ṯe·hā;
וְהַנֶּ֥גֶב
wə·han·ne·ḡeḇ
and the Negev
؟ וְהַשְּׁפֵלָ֖ה
wə·haš·šə·p̄ê·lāh
and the Lowland ؟
. יֹשֵֽׁב׃
yō·šêḇ.

And came

saying ､

אָמַ֛ר
’ā·mar
יְהוָ֥ה
Yah·weh
､ צְבָא֖וֹת
ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ
of hosts ､
､ לֵאמֹ֑ר
lê·mōr;
saying ､
､ מִשְׁפַּ֤ט
miš·paṭ
אֱמֶת֙
’ĕ·meṯ
שְׁפֹ֔טוּ
šə·p̄ō·ṭū,
וְחֶ֣סֶד
wə·ḥe·seḏ
and mercy
וְרַֽחֲמִ֔ים
wə·ra·ḥă·mîm,
עֲשׂ֖וּ
‘ă·śū
אִ֥ישׁ
’îš
אֶת־
’eṯ-
to
– אָחִֽיו׃
’ā·ḥîw.

､ וְאַלְמָנָ֧ה
wə·’al·mā·nāh
and the widow ､
､ וְיָת֛וֹם
wə·yā·ṯō·wm
or the fatherless ､
､ גֵּ֥ר
gêr
the alien ､
– וְעָנִ֖י
wə·‘ā·nî
or the poor –
אַֽל־
’al-
not
תַּעֲשֹׁ֑קוּ
ta·‘ă·šō·qū;
וְרָעַת֙
wə·rā·‘aṯ
and evil
אִ֣ישׁ
’îš
אָחִ֔יו
’ā·ḥîw,
אַֽל־
’al-
תַּחְשְׁב֖וּ
taḥ·šə·ḇū
. בִּלְבַבְכֶֽם׃
bil·ḇaḇ·ḵem.
in his heart .

וַיְמָאֲנ֣וּ
way·mā·’ă·nū
､ לְהַקְשִׁ֔יב
lə·haq·šîḇ,
to heed ､
וַיִּתְּנ֥וּ
way·yit·tə·nū
､ כָתֵ֖ף
ḵā·ṯêp̄
סֹרָ֑רֶת
sō·rā·reṯ;
､ וְאָזְנֵיהֶ֖ם
wə·’ā·zə·nê·hem
and their ears ､
הִכְבִּ֥ידוּ
hiḵ·bî·ḏū
. מִשְּׁמֽוֹעַ׃
miš·šə·mō·w·a‘.

וְלִבָּ֞ם
wə·lib·bām
שָׂ֣מוּ
śā·mū
､ שָׁמִ֗יר
šā·mîr,
מִ֠שְּׁמוֹעַ
miš·šə·mō·w·a‘
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
､ הַתּוֹרָ֤ה
hat·tō·w·rāh
the law ､
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
הַדְּבָרִים֙
had·də·ḇā·rîm
the words
אֲשֶׁ֨ר
’ă·šer
שָׁלַ֜ח
šā·laḥ
יְהוָ֤ה
Yah·weh
צְבָאוֹת֙
ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ
בְּרוּח֔וֹ
bə·rū·ḥōw,
בְּיַ֖ד
bə·yaḏ
– הַנְּבִיאִ֣ים
han·nə·ḇî·’îm
the prophets –
הָרִֽאשֹׁנִ֑ים
hā·ri·šō·nîm;
וַֽיְהִי֙
way·hî
קֶ֣צֶף
qe·ṣep̄
גָּד֔וֹל
gā·ḏō·wl,
מֵאֵ֖ת
mê·’êṯ
יְהוָ֥ה
Yah·weh
. צְבָאֽוֹת׃
ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ.
of hosts .

､ וַיְהִ֥י
way·hî
Therefore it came to pass ､
כַאֲשֶׁר־
ḵa·’ă·šer-
[that] just as
､ קָרָ֖א
qā·rā
He proclaimed ､
וְלֹ֣א
wə·lō
and not
– שָׁמֵ֑עוּ
šā·mê·‘ū;
כֵּ֤ן
kên
so
､ יִקְרְאוּ֙
yiq·rə·’ū
וְלֹ֣א
wə·lō
and not
､ אֶשְׁמָ֔ע
’eš·mā‘,
אָמַ֖ר
’ā·mar
יְהוָ֥ה
Yah·weh
– צְבָאֽוֹת׃
ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ.
of hosts –
14
וְאֵ֣סָעֲרֵ֗ם
wə·’ê·sā·‘ă·rêm,
but I scattered them with a whirlwind
עַ֤ל
‘al
כָּל־
kāl-
הַגּוֹיִם֙
hag·gō·w·yim
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
’ă·šer
. לֹֽא־
lō-
not .
יְדָע֔וּם
yə·ḏā·‘ūm,
וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙
wə·hā·’ā·reṣ
. נָשַׁ֣מָּה
nā·šam·māh
אַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֔ם
’a·ḥă·rê·hem,
מֵֽעֹבֵ֖ר
mê·‘ō·ḇêr
– וּמִשָּׁ֑ב
ū·miš·šāḇ;
or returned –
וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ
way·yā·śî·mū
אֶֽרֶץ־
’e·reṣ-
the land
חֶמְדָּ֖ה
ḥem·dāh
. לְשַׁמָּֽה׃
lə·šam·māh.
