'In Zion' in the Bible

Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion;Declare among the peoples His deeds.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song.There will be silence before You, and praise in Zion, O God,And to You the vow will be performed.

His tabernacle is in Salem;His dwelling place also is in Zion.

They go from strength to strength,Every one of them appears before God in Zion.

The Lord is great in Zion,And He is exalted above all the peoples.

That men may tell of the name of the Lord in ZionAnd His praise in Jerusalem,

It will come about that he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy—everyone who is recorded for life in Jerusalem.

Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts, “O My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear the Assyrian who strikes you with the rod and lifts up his staff against you, the way Egypt did.

Therefore thus says the Lord God,“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone,A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed.He who believes in it will not be disturbed.

O people in Zion, inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will weep no longer. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you.

“His rock will pass away because of panic,And his princes will be terrified at the standard,”Declares the Lord, whose fire is in Zion and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

Sinners in Zion are terrified;Trembling has seized the godless.“Who among us can live with the consuming fire?Who among us can live with continual burning?”

“I bring near My righteousness, it is not far off;And My salvation will not delay.And I will grant salvation in Zion,And My glory for Israel.

To grant those who mourn in Zion,Giving them a garland instead of ashes,The oil of gladness instead of mourning,The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting.So they will be called oaks of righteousness,The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

Behold, listen! The cry of the daughter of my people from a distant land:“Is the Lord not in Zion? Is her King not within her?”“Why have they provoked Me with their graven images, with foreign idols?”

There is a sound of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon,To declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God,Vengeance for His temple.

The Lord has brought about our vindication;Come and let us recount in ZionThe work of the Lord our God!

“But I will repay Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea for all their evil that they have done in Zion before your eyes,” declares the Lord.

And He has violently treated His tabernacle like a garden booth;He has destroyed His appointed meeting place.The Lord has caused to be forgottenThe appointed feast and sabbath in Zion,And He has despised king and priestIn the indignation of His anger.

The Lord has accomplished His wrath,He has poured out His fierce anger;And He has kindled a fire in ZionWhich has consumed its foundations.

They ravished the women in Zion,The virgins in the cities of Judah.

Blow a trumpet in Zion,And sound an alarm on My holy mountain!Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble,For the day of the Lord is coming;Surely it is near,

Blow a trumpet in Zion,Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly,

Then you will know that I am the Lord your God,Dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain.So Jerusalem will be holy,And strangers will pass through it no more.

And I will avenge their blood which I have not avenged,For the Lord dwells in Zion.

Woe to those who are at ease in ZionAnd to those who feel secure in the mountain of Samaria,The distinguished men of the foremost of nations,To whom the house of Israel comes.

just as it is written,“Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

For this is contained in Scripture:“Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone,And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
