'In Zion' in the Bible
Sing to the Lord, who dwells in Zion;proclaim His deeds among the nations.
For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. A song.Praise is rightfully Yours,God, in Zion;vows to You will be fulfilled.
His tent is in Salem,His dwelling place in Zion.
They go from strength to strength;each appears before God in Zion.
so that they might declarethe name of Yahweh in Zionand His praise in Jerusalem,
Whoever remains in Zion and whoever is left in Jerusalem will be called holy—all in Jerusalem who are destined to live—
Therefore, the Lord God of Hosts says this: “My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear Assyria, though he strikes you with a rod and raises his staff over you as the Egyptians did.
Therefore the Lord God said:“Look, I have laid a stone in Zion,a tested stone,a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation;the one who believes will be unshakable.
His rock will pass away because of fear,and his officers will be afraid because of the signal flag.This is the Lord’s declaration—whose fire is in Zion and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
The sinners in Zion are afraid;trembling seizes the ungodly:“Who among us can dwell with a consuming fire?Who among us can dwell with ever-burning flames?”
I am bringing My justice near;it is not far away,and My salvation will not delay.I will put salvation in Zion,My splendor in Israel.
to provide for those who mourn in Zion;to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,festive oil instead of mourning,and splendid clothes instead of despair.And they will be called righteous trees,planted by the Lordto glorify Him.
Listen—the cry of my dear peoplefrom a far away land,“Is the Lord no longer in Zion,her King not within her?”Why have they provoked me to angerwith their carved images,with their worthless foreign idols?
“There is a voice of fugitives and those who escapefrom the land of Babylonannouncing in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God,the vengeance for His temple.
The Lord has brought about our vindication;come, let’s tell in Zionwhat the Lord our God has accomplished.
“I will repay Babylon and all the residents of Chaldea for all their evil they have done in Zion before your very eyes.”This is the Lord’s declaration.
ו VavHe has done violence to His templeas if it were a garden booth,destroying His place of meeting.The Lord has abolishedappointed festivals and Sabbaths in Zion.He has despised king and priestin His fierce anger.
כ KafThe Lord has exhausted His wrath,poured out His burning anger;He has ignited a fire in Zion,and it has consumed her foundations.
Blow the horn in Zion;sound the alarm on My holy mountain!Let all the residents of the land tremble,for the Day of the Lord is coming;in fact, it is near—
Blow the horn in Zion!Announce a sacred fast;proclaim an assembly.
Then you will knowthat I am Yahweh your God,who dwells in Zion, My holy mountain.Jerusalem will be holy,and foreigners will never overrun it again.
I will pardon their bloodguilt,which I have not pardoned,for the Lord dwells in Zion.
Woe to those who are at ease in Zionand to those who feel secure on the hill of Samaria—the notable people in this first of the nations,those the house of Israel comes to.
As it is written:Look! I am putting a stone in Zion to stumble overand a rock to trip over,yet the one who believes on Himwill not be put to shame.
For it is contained in Scripture:Look! I lay a stone in Zion,a chosen and honored cornerstone,and the one who believes in Himwill never be put to shame!
