'The Twelve' in the Bible
Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, who was named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John,
Jesus said to them: "I solemnly say to you, in the new order of life, when the Son of Man shall take His seat on His glorious throne, you too, who have followed me, will sit on twelve thrones, and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
And as Jesus was about to go up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside, and said to them while on the road,
Then one of the Twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the high priests,
When evening came, He was sitting at the table with the Twelve.
Even while He was still speaking, here came Judas, one of the Twelve, and with him a crowd, with swords and clubs, from the high priests and the elders of the people.
And He appointed the Twelve, to whom He gave the title, apostles, to be with Him, to send them forth to preach,
The Twelve whom He appointed were: Peter, the name which He gave to Simon,
When He was by Himself, those who stayed about Him with the Twelve began to ask Him about the stories.
And He called the Twelve to Him and sent them out two by two, and gave them power over the foul spirits.
So He sat down and called the Twelve to Him and said, "If anyone wants to be the first, he must be the last of all and the servant of all."
As they were walking along the road up to Jerusalem, Jesus was going on ahead of them, but they were dazed while those who were still following were afraid. Then again He took the Twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to befall Him.
And so He went into Jerusalem and into the temple. After He had looked everything over, as it was already late, He went out with the Twelve to Bethany.
Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the high priests to betray Him to them.
When evening came, He went with the Twelve.
He answered them, "It is one of the Twelve, the one who is dipping his bread in the dish with me.
At that very moment, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, came up, and with him a crowd of men with swords and clubs, from the high priests, scribes, and elders.
Soon afterwards He chanced to be making a tour of Galilee from town to town and from village to village preaching and telling the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve went with Him,
Then He called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all the demons, and to cure diseases,
As the day began to decline, the Twelve came up and said to Him, "Send the crowd off to the villages and farms around, to get lodging and to find food there, for we are in a destitute place here."
Now He took the Twelve aside and said to them, "Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.
But Satan entered into Judas, who is called Iscariot, who belonged to the circle of the Twelve.
so I confer on you the privilege of eating and drinking at my table in my kingdom and of sitting on thrones and judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
While He was still speaking, look! a crowd had come up, and Judas, one of the Twelve, was their guide; and he stepped up to Jesus to kiss Him.
So Jesus said to the Twelve, "You too do not want to go back, do you?"
Jesus answered them, "Did I not myself select you as the Twelve? And yet one of you is a devil."
He was referring to Judas, Simon Iscariot's son, for he was going to betray Him, although he was one of the Twelve.
He said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and as the carrier of the purse for the Twelve he was in the habit of taking what was put into it.
Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, who was called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came in.
So the Twelve called together the whole body of the disciples, and said, "It is not desirable that we should leave off preaching the word of God to wait on tables.
And with Abraham He made the sacred compact of circumcision, and he became the father of Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.
and that He was seen by Cephas, and then by the Twelve.
James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, sends greetings to the twelve tribes that are scattered over the world.
It had a great, high wall, with twelve huge gates, and twelve angels in charge of the gates, which had inscribed upon them the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.
The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the Lamb's twelve apostles.
The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate built of a single pearl. The Broadway of the city was pure gold, as transparent as glass.
