Pilate said to them, "Take the military guard and go and make it as secure as you can." So off they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the boulder and setting a guard.
While they were on their way, some members of the guard went into the city and told the high priests everything that had taken place. So they met and held a consultation with the elders, and bribed the soldiers with a large sum of money, and said to them, "Tell the people that His disciples came by night, while we were sleeping, and stole Him away.read more.
And if news of it gets to the governor's ears, we will make it all right with him, and keep you out of trouble." So they took the money and did as they were told. And this story has been told among the Jews down to the present time.
But they shouted, "Kill Him! Kill Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Must I crucify your king?" The high priests answered, "We have no king but the emperor!"
