Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."

Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

For he is God's servant to you for good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is God's servant, an avenger to execute wrath on the wrongdoer.

For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world." For even his brothers did not believe in him. But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but in secret. The Jews were looking for him at the feast, and saying, "Where is he?" And there was much complaining among the people about him. Some said, "He is a good man"; others said, "No, on the contrary, he deceives the people." However, no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

And have you forgotten the exhortation which addresses you as sons? "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor lose courage when you are rebuked by him. For those whom the Lord loves he disciplines, and he scourges every son whom he receives." It is for discipline that you endure. God is treating you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?read more.
If you are left without discipline, in which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had fathers of our flesh to discipline us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

We must not indulge in immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day. We must not put the Lord to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents. Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written down for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. Therefore let any one who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
