'Denarius' in the Bible

When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard.

Those who had been hired at the eleventh hour (5:00 p.m.) came and received a denarius each [a day’s wage].

Now when the first [to be hired] came, they thought they would get more; but each of them also received a denarius.

But the owner of the estate replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no injustice. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?

Show me the coin used for the poll-tax.” And they brought Him a denarius [a day’s wage].

Should we pay [the tax] or should we not pay?” But knowing their hypocrisy, He asked them, “Why are you testing Me? Bring Me a coin (denarius) to look at.”

“Show Me a [Roman] denarius. Whose image and inscription does the coin have?” They answered, “[the Emperor Tiberius] Caesar’s.”

And I heard something like a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius (a day’s wages), and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.”
