'One' in the Bible
But Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
carry no bag, no scrip, nor sandals; and salute no one on the way;
And in that same house stay, eating and drinking at their table; for the labourer deserves his wages. Do not move from one house to another.
Whoever listens to you listens to Me. Whoever rejects you rejects Me. And whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”
All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son desires to reveal Him.”
“The one who showed mercy to him,” he said.Then Jesus told him, “Go and do the same.”
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
He also said to them: “Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
And that one will answer from inside [and] say, 'Do not cause me trouble! The door has already been shut and my children are with me in bed! I am not able to get up to give you [anything].'
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?
But when one stronger than he attacks and overpowers him, he takes from him all his weapons he trusted in, and divides up his plunder.
The one who is not with me is against me, and the one who does not gather with me scatters.
As He was saying these things, a woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “The womb that bore You and the one who nursed You are blessed!”
Now as the crowds were increasing [in number], He began to say, “This [present] generation is a wicked generation; it seeks a sign (attesting miracle), but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah [the prophet].
The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and will condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, one greater than Solomon is here.
The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, one greater than Jonah is here.
“No one lights a lamp and puts it in the cellar or under a basket, but on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see its light.
You fools! The one who made the outside made the inside, too, didn't he?
Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.
And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
But I will show you the One to fear: Fear Him who has authority to throw people into hell after death. Yes, I say to you, this is the One to fear!
Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
And I say to you, Every one -- whoever may confess with me before men, the Son of Man also shall confess with him before the messengers of God,
But the one who denies me before men will be denied before God's angels.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”
And God said to him, Unthinking one! this night thy soul they shall require from thee, and what things thou didst prepare -- to whom shall they be?
“That’s how it is with the one who stores up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
But the one who did not know and did things deserving of blows will be beaten lightly. Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. And even more will be expected of the one who has been entrusted with more.
For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
And he spake this simile: 'A certain one had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit in it, and he did not find;
But the gardener replied, "Sir, leave it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and fertilize it.
And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
and this one, being a daughter of Abraham, whom the Adversary bound, lo, eighteen years, did it not behove to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath-day?'
He went through one town and village after another, teaching and making His way to Jerusalem.
Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How many times I wanted to gather your children together {the way} a hen [gathers] her own brood under [her] wings, and you were not willing!
Look! Your house is left vacant to you. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, "How blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!'"
And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
And He said to them, “Which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”
'When thou mayest be called by any one to marriage-feasts, thou mayest not recline on the first couch, lest a more honourable than thou may have been called by him,
The one who invited both of you may come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then in humiliation, you will proceed to take the lowest place.
“But when you are invited, go and recline in the lowest place, so that when the one who invited you comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ You will then be honored in the presence of all the other guests.
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
He also said to the one who had invited Him, “When you give a lunch or a dinner, don’t invite your friends, your brothers, your relatives, or your rich neighbors, because they might invite you back, and you would be repaid.
And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
Another one said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.’
Another one said, ‘I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.’
For I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will enjoy my banquet!’”
'If any one doth come unto me, and doth not hate his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, and yet even his own life, he is not able to be my disciple;
No one who does not carry his own cross and come after me can be a disciple of mine.
"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. He will first sit down and estimate the cost to see whether he has enough money to finish it, won't he?
“Or what king, going to war against another king, will not first sit down and decide if he is able with 10,000 to oppose the one who comes against him with 20,000?
In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not say good-bye to all his possessions cannot be My disciple.
It is of no value for the soil or for the manure pile; it is to be thrown out. The one who has ears to hear had better listen!"
and the Pharisees and the scribes were murmuring, saying -- This one doth receive sinners, and doth eat with them.'
What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
and having come to the house, he doth call together the friends and the neighbours, saying to them, Rejoice with me, because I found my sheep -- the lost one.
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
The younger one told his father, "Father, give me my share of the estate.' So the father divided his property between them.
Then he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs.
He longed to eat his fill from the carob pods the pigs were eating, but no one would give him any.
And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
"But the father said to his servants, "'Fetch a good coat quickly--the best one--and put it on him; and bring a ring for his finger and shoes for his feet.
And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
but when thy son -- this one who did devour thy living with harlots -- came, thou didst kill to him the fatted calf.
So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?
"The one who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and the one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
the law and the prophets are till John; since then the reign of God is proclaimed good news, and every one doth press into it;
And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.
'Every one who is sending away his wife, and marrying another, doth commit adultery; and every one who is marrying her sent away from a husband doth commit adultery.
One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.
Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us, so that those who want to cross over from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.'
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
He said to His disciples, “Offenses will certainly come, but woe to the one they come through!
It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
Pay attention and always be on guard [looking out for one another]! If your brother sins and disregards God’s precepts, solemnly warn him; and if he repents and changes, forgive him.
“Which one of you having a slave tending sheep or plowing will say to him when he comes in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’?
One day, Jesus was traveling along the border between Samaria and Galilee on the way to Jerusalem.
As He entered a village, He was met by ten lepers who stood at a distance;
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?”
Now at one point the Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God was coming, so he answered, "The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed,
no one will say, ‘Look here!’ or ‘There!’ For you see, the kingdom of God is among you.”
And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.
For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
But first, he will have to undergo much and be put on one side by this generation.
