וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

אֱמֹ֥ר

’ĕ·mōr

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים

hak·kō·hă·nîm

the priests ､

בְּנֵ֣י

bə·nê

the sons

､ אַהֲרֹ֑ן

’a·hă·rōn;

of Aaron ､

וְאָמַרְתָּ֣

wə·’ā·mar·tā

and say

､ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם

’ă·lê·hem,

to them ､

לְנֶ֥פֶשׁ

lə·ne·p̄eš

לֹֽא־

lō-

יִטַּמָּ֖א

yiṭ·ṭam·mā

shall defile himself

､ בְּעַמָּֽיו׃

bə·‘am·māw.

among his people ､

כִּ֚י

kî

אִם־

’im-

､ לִשְׁאֵר֔וֹ

liš·’ê·rōw,

his relatives ､

הַקָּרֹ֖ב

haq·qā·rōḇ

who are nearest

אֵלָ֑יו

’ê·lāw;

to him

､ לְאִמּ֣וֹ

lə·’im·mōw

､ וּלְאָבִ֔יו

ū·lə·’ā·ḇîw,

and his father ､

､ וְלִבְנ֥וֹ

wə·liḇ·nōw

and his son ､

､ וּלְבִתּ֖וֹ

ū·lə·ḇit·tōw

and his daughter ､

､ וּלְאָחִֽיו׃

ū·lə·’ā·ḥîw.

and his brother ､

וְלַאֲחֹת֤וֹ

wə·la·’ă·ḥō·ṯōw

､ הַבְּתוּלָה֙

hab·bə·ṯū·lāh

הַקְּרוֹבָ֣ה

haq·qə·rō·w·ḇāh

אֵלָ֔יו

’ê·lāw,

to him

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

לֹֽא־

lō-

הָיְתָ֖ה

hā·yə·ṯāh

לְאִ֑ישׁ

lə·’îš;

､ לָ֖הּ

lāh

. יִטַּמָּֽא׃

yiṭ·ṭam·mā.

he may defile himself .

Not

､ יִטַּמָּ֖א

yiṭ·ṭam·mā

[Otherwise] he shall defile himself ､

בַּ֣עַל

ba·‘al

[being] a chief man

､ בְּעַמָּ֑יו

bə·‘am·māw;

among his people ､

. לְהֵ֖חַלּֽוֹ׃

lə·hê·ḥal·lōw.

to profane himself .

לֹֽא־

Not

[יקרחה]

yiq·rə·ḥū

they shall make

קָרְחָה֙

qā·rə·ḥāh

any bald [place]

､ בְּרֹאשָׁ֔ם

bə·rō·šām,

on their heads ､

וּפְאַ֥ת

ū·p̄ə·’aṯ

and the edges

זְקָנָ֖ם

zə·qā·nām

of their beards

לֹ֣א

lō

､ יְגַלֵּ֑חוּ

yə·ḡal·lê·ḥū;

shall they shave ､

וּבִ֨בְשָׂרָ֔ם

ū·ḇiḇ·śā·rām,

and in their flesh

לֹ֥א

lō

יִשְׂרְט֖וּ

yiś·rə·ṭū

. שָׂרָֽטֶת׃

śā·rā·ṭeṯ.

קְדֹשִׁ֤ים

qə·ḏō·šîm

יִהְיוּ֙

yih·yū

､ לֵאלֹ֣הֵיהֶ֔ם

lê·lō·hê·hem,

to their God ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and not

יְחַלְּל֔וּ

yə·ḥal·lə·lū,

שֵׁ֖ם

the name

. אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם

’ĕ·lō·hê·hem;

כִּי֩

kî

אֶת־

’eṯ-

אִשֵּׁ֨י

’iš·šê

the offerings made by fire

､ יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

of Yahweh ､

לֶ֧חֶם

le·ḥem

[and] the bread

､ אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֛ם

’ĕ·lō·hê·hem

of their God ､

הֵ֥ם

hêm

– מַקְרִיבִ֖ם

maq·rî·ḇim

וְהָ֥יוּ

wə·hā·yū

therefore they shall be

. קֹֽדֶשׁ׃

qō·ḏeš.

אִשָּׁ֨ה

’iš·šāh

､ זֹנָ֤ה

zō·nāh

[who is] a harlot ､

וַחֲלָלָה֙

wa·ḥă·lā·lāh

or a defiled woman

לֹ֣א

lō

not

､ יִקָּ֔חוּ

yiq·qā·ḥū,

they shall take ､

וְאִשָּׁ֛ה

wə·’iš·šāh

and a woman

גְּרוּשָׁ֥ה

gə·rū·šāh

מֵאִישָׁ֖הּ

mê·’î·šāh

from her husband

לֹ֣א

lō

– יִקָּ֑חוּ

yiq·qā·ḥū;

shall they take –

כִּֽי־

kî-

קָדֹ֥שׁ

qā·ḏōš

ה֖וּא

hū

[the priest] is

. לֵאלֹהָֽיו׃

lê·lō·hāw.

to his God .

､ וְקִדַּשְׁתּ֔וֹ

wə·qid·daš·tōw,

Therefore you shall consecrate him ､

כִּֽי־

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

לֶ֥חֶם

le·ḥem

אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ

’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā

ה֣וּא

he

. מַקְרִ֑יב

maq·rîḇ;

קָדֹשׁ֙

qā·ḏōš

יִֽהְיֶה־

yih·yeh-

He shall be

､ לָּ֔ךְ

lāḵ,

to you ､

כִּ֣י

kî

קָד֔וֹשׁ

qā·ḏō·wōš,

[am] holy

､ אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I ､

､ יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. מְקַדִּשְׁכֶֽם׃

mə·qad·diš·ḵem.

who sanctify you .

וּבַת֙

ū·ḇaṯ

And the daughter

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

of any

､ כֹּהֵ֔ן

kō·hên,

כִּ֥י

kî

if

תֵחֵ֖ל

ṯê·ḥêl

she profanes herself

､ לִזְנ֑וֹת

liz·nō·wṯ;

by playing the harlot ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אָבִ֙יהָ֙

’ā·ḇî·hā

הִ֣יא

hî

– מְחַלֶּ֔לֶת

mə·ḥal·le·leṯ,

בָּאֵ֖שׁ

bā·’êš

with fire

. תִּשָּׂרֵֽף׃

tiś·śā·rêp̄.

she shall be burned .

wə·hak·kō·hên

And [He who is] priest

הַגָּד֨וֹל

hag·gā·ḏō·wl

the high

､ מֵאֶחָ֜יו

mê·’e·ḥāw

among his brothers ､

אֲ‍ֽשֶׁר־

’ăšer-

יוּצַ֥ק

yū·ṣaq

עַל־

‘al-

on

רֹאשׁ֣וֹ ׀

rō·šōw

שֶׁ֤מֶן

še·men

､ הַמִּשְׁחָה֙

ham·miš·ḥāh

the anointing ､

וּמִלֵּ֣א

ū·mil·lê

and who is consecrated

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יָד֔וֹ

yā·ḏōw,

לִלְבֹּ֖שׁ

lil·bōš

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַבְּגָדִ֑ים

hab·bə·ḡā·ḏîm;

､ אֶת־

’eṯ-

- ､

רֹאשׁוֹ֙

rō·šōw

לֹ֣א

lō

not

､ יִפְרָ֔ע

yip̄·rā‘,

shall uncover ､

וּבְגָדָ֖יו

ū·ḇə·ḡā·ḏāw

and his clothes

לֹ֥א

lō

. יִפְרֹֽם׃

yip̄·rōm.

וְעַ֛ל

wə·‘al

And near

כָּל־

kāl-

נַפְשֹׁ֥ת

nap̄·šōṯ

､ מֵ֖ת

mêṯ

dead ､

לֹ֣א

lō

– יָבֹ֑א

yā·ḇō;

shall he go –

לְאָבִ֥יו

lə·’ā·ḇîw

､ וּלְאִמּ֖וֹ

ū·lə·’im·mōw

or his mother ､

לֹ֥א

lō

. יִטַּמָּֽא׃

yiṭ·ṭam·mā.

defile himself .

וּמִן־

ū·min-

And

הַמִּקְדָּשׁ֙

ham·miq·dāš

of the sanctuary

לֹ֣א

lō

､ יֵצֵ֔א

yê·ṣê,

shall he go out ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

יְחַלֵּ֔ל

yə·ḥal·lêl,

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

מִקְדַּ֣שׁ

miq·daš

– אֱלֹהָ֑יו

’ĕ·lō·hāw;

of his God –

כִּ֡י

kî

נֵ֠זֶר

nê·zer

the consecration

שֶׁ֣מֶן

še·men

of the oil

מִשְׁחַ֧ת

miš·ḥaṯ

of anointing [is]

אֱלֹהָ֛יו

’ĕ·lō·hāw

. עָלָ֖יו

‘ā·lāw

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

[am] Yahweh .

וְה֕וּא

wə·hū

And he

אִשָּׁ֥ה

’iš·šāh

בִבְתוּלֶ֖יהָ

ḇiḇ·ṯū·le·hā

in her virginity

. יִקָּֽח׃

yiq·qāḥ.

､ אַלְמָנָ֤ה

’al·mā·nāh

A widow ､

､ וּגְרוּשָׁה֙

ū·ḡə·rū·šāh

or a divorced woman ､

וַחֲלָלָ֣ה

wa·ḥă·lā·lāh

or a defiled woman

､ זֹנָ֔ה

zō·nāh,

[or] a harlot ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֵ֖לֶּה

’êl·leh

לֹ֣א

lō

not

– יִקָּ֑ח

yiq·qāḥ;

he shall marry –

כִּ֛י

kî

-

אִם־

’im-

but

בְּתוּלָ֥ה

bə·ṯū·lāh

מֵעַמָּ֖יו

mê·‘am·māw

of his own people

יִקַּ֥ח

yiq·qaḥ

. אִשָּֽׁה׃

’iš·šāh.

as wife .

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

יְחַלֵּ֥ל

yə·ḥal·lêl

shall he profane

זַרְע֖וֹ

zar·‘ōw

– בְּעַמָּ֑יו

bə·‘am·māw;

among his people –

כִּ֛י

kî

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. מְקַדְּשֽׁוֹ׃

mə·qad·də·šōw.

of your descendants

､ לְדֹרֹתָ֗ם

in [succeeding] generations ､

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

יִהְיֶ֥ה

yih·yeh

בוֹ֙

ḇōw

in him

､ מ֔וּם

mūm,

[any] defect ､

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יִקְרַ֔ב

yiq·raḇ,

לְהַקְרִ֖יב

lə·haq·rîḇ

לֶ֥חֶם

le·ḥem

. אֱלֹהָֽיו׃

’ĕ·lō·hāw.

of his God .

Restrictions against Those with Blemishes

a broken foot ､

is a hunchback ､

אוֹ־

תְּבַלֻּ֣ל

a man who has a defect

､ בְּעֵינ֑וֹ

bə·‘ê·nōw;

in his eye ､

א֤וֹ

､ גָרָב֙

ḡā·rāḇ

､ יַלֶּ֔פֶת

yal·le·p̄eṯ,

scab ､

א֖וֹ

. אָֽשֶׁךְ׃

is a eunuch .

כָּל־

kāl-

אִ֞ישׁ

אֲשֶׁר־

mūm,

has a defect ､

מִזֶּ֙רַע֙

miz·ze·ra‘

of the descendants

אַהֲרֹ֣ן

הַכֹּהֵ֔ן

לֹ֣א

יִגַּ֔שׁ

yig·gaš,

shall come near

לְהַקְרִ֖יב

lə·haq·rîḇ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

אִשֵּׁ֣י

מִקָּדְשֵׁ֖י

miq·qā·ḏə·šê

-

､ הַקֳּדָשִׁ֑ים

haq·qo·ḏā·šîm;

[both] the most holy ､

וּמִן־

ū·min-

and

､ הַקֳּדָשִׁ֖ים

haq·qo·ḏā·šîm

the holy ､

. יֹאכֵֽל׃

yō·ḵêl.

He may eat .

אַ֣ךְ

אֶל־

’el-

､ הַפָּרֹ֜כֶת

the veil ､

לֹ֣א

､ יָבֹ֗א

he shall go ､

וְאֶל־

､ הַמִּזְבֵּ֛חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ

the altar ､

לֹ֥א

or

､ יִגַּ֖שׁ

yig·gaš

כִּֽי־

kî-

מ֣וּם

mūm

､ בּ֑וֹ

bōw;

he ､

וְלֹ֤א

wə·lō

and lest

יְחַלֵּל֙

yə·ḥal·lêl

אֶת־

’eṯ-

. מִקְדָּשַׁ֔י

miq·dā·šay,

My sanctuaries .

כִּ֛י

kî

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. מְקַדְּשָֽׁם׃

mə·qad·də·šām.

sanctify them .

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר

way·ḏab·bêr

And told [it]

מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

אֶֽל־

’el-

to

､ אַהֲרֹ֖ן

’a·hă·rōn

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and

､ בָּנָ֑יו

bā·nāw;

וְאֶֽל־

wə·’el-

and to

כָּל־

kāl-

בְּנֵ֖י

bə·nê

the sons

. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.
