'Called' in the Bible

“I [Jerusalem] called to my lovers (political allies), but they deceived me.My priests and my elders perished in the cityWhile they looked for food to restore their strength.

All who pass along the wayClap their hands in derision at you;They scoff and shake their headsAt the Daughter of Jerusalem, saying,“Is this the city that was called‘The perfection of beauty,The joy of all the earth’?”

You [Lord] called as in the day of an appointed feastMy terrors (dangers) on every side;And there was no one who escaped or survivedIn the day of the Lord’s anger.Those I have cared for and brought up with tenderness,My enemy annihilated them.

I called on Your name, O Lord,Out of the lowest pit.

You drew near on the day I called to You;You said, “Do not fear.”
