'Dost' in the Bible
In peace I will both lie down and sleep,For You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety.
The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes; You hate all who do iniquity.
You destroy those who speak falsehood; The Lord abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.
For it is You who blesses the righteous man, O Lord,You surround him with favor as with a shield.
What is man that You take thought of him,And the son of man that You care for him?
Yet You have made him a little lower than God,And You crown him with glory and majesty!
You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,
For You have maintained my just cause; You have sat on the throne judging righteously.
Be gracious to me, O Lord;See my affliction from those who hate me,You who lift me up from the gates of death,
Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?
Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer,Seek out his wickedness until You find none.
The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup;You support my lot.
You have tried my heart; You have visited me by night; You have tested me and You find nothing;I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
From men with Your hand, O Lord,From men of the world, whose portion is in this life,And whose belly You fill with Your treasure; They are satisfied with children,And leave their abundance to their babes.
With the kind You show Yourself kind;With the blameless You show Yourself blameless;
With the pure You show Yourself pure,And with the crooked You show Yourself astute.
For You save an afflicted people,But haughty eyes You abase.
For You light my lamp; The Lord my God illumines my darkness.
You enlarge my steps under me,And my feet have not slipped.
He delivers me from my enemies;Surely You lift me above those who rise up against me;You rescue me from the violent man.
For You meet him with the blessings of good things; You set a crown of fine gold on his head.
His glory is great through Your salvation,Splendor and majesty You place upon him.
For You make him most blessed forever; You make him joyful with gladness in Your presence.
O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd,And my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death.
Save me from the lion’s mouth; From the horns of the wild oxen You answer me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil;My cup overflows.
You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man;You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues.
You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.
They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house; And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights.
“With reproofs You chasten a man for iniquity; You consume as a moth what is precious to him;Surely every man is a mere breath. Selah.
The Lord will sustain him upon his sickbed; In his illness, You restore him to health.
As for me, You uphold me in my integrity,And You set me in Your presence forever.
Yet You have rejected us and brought us to dishonor,And do not go out with our armies.
You cause us to turn back from the adversary; And those who hate us have taken spoil for themselves.
You give us as sheep to be eatenAnd have scattered us among the nations.
You sell Your people cheaply,And have not profited by their sale.
You make us a reproach to our neighbors,A scoffing and a derision to those around us.
You make us a byword among the nations,A laughingstock among the peoples.
Arouse Yourself, why do You sleep, O Lord?Awake, do not reject us forever.
Why do You hide Your faceAnd forget our affliction and our oppression?
With the east windYou break the ships of Tarshish.
Against You, You only, I have sinnedAnd done what is evil in Your sight,So that You are justified when You speakAnd blameless when You judge.
Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.
For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;You are not pleased with burnt offering.
But You, O Lord, laugh at them; You scoff at all the nations.
And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord,For You recompense a man according to his work.
O You who hear prayer,To You all men come.
Iniquities prevail against me;As for our transgressions, You forgive them.
How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to YouTo dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,Your holy temple.
By awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation,You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea;
Who establishes the mountains by His strength,Being girded with might;
Who stills the roaring of the seas,The roaring of their waves,And the tumult of the peoples.
They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.
You visit the earth and cause it to overflow; You greatly enrich it;The stream of God is full of water; You prepare their grain, for thus You prepare the earth.
You water its furrows abundantly,You settle its ridges,You soften it with showers,You bless its growth.
O God, it is You who knows my folly,And my wrongs are not hidden from You.
You know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; All my adversaries are before You.
Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction.
Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? From within Your bosom, destroy them!
For the choir director; set to El Shoshannim; Eduth. A Psalm of Asaph.Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel,You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!
You make us an object of contention to our neighbors,And our enemies laugh among themselves.
Arise, O God, judge the earth! For it is You who possesses all the nations.
Forsaken among the dead,Like the slain who lie in the grave,Whom You remember no more,And they are cut off from Your hand.
O Lord, why do You reject my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me?
You rule the swelling of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them.
You also turn back the edge of his swordAnd have not made him stand in battle.
You turn man back into dustAnd say, “Return, O children of men.”
Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O Lord,And whom You teach out of Your law;
But You, O Lord, abide forever,And Your name to all generations.
“Even they will perish, but You endure; And all of them will wear out like a garment;Like clothing You will change them and they will be changed.
You appoint darkness and it becomes night,In which all the beasts of the forest prowl about.
You give to them, they gather it up;You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
You hide Your face, they are dismayed; You take away their spirit, they expireAnd return to their dust.
You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the ground.
You rebuke the arrogant, the cursed,Who wander from Your commandments.
Let my lips utter praise,For You teach me Your statutes.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;You understand my thought from afar.
You scrutinize my path and my lying down,And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
Even before there is a word on my tongue,Behold, O Lord, You know it all.
O Lord, what is man, that You take knowledge of him?Or the son of man, that You think of him?
Who gives salvation to kings,Who rescues David His servant from the evil sword.
The eyes of all look to You,And You give them their food in due time.
You open Your handAnd satisfy the desire of every living thing.
