'Heart' in the Bible
Make your ear attentive to wisdom,Incline your heart to understanding;
For wisdom will enter your heartAnd knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
My son, do not forget my teaching,But let your heart keep my commandments;
Do not let kindness and truth leave you;Bind them around your neck,Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Trust in the Lord with all your heartAnd do not lean on your own understanding.
Then he taught me and said to me,“Let your heart hold fast my words;Keep my commandments and live;
Do not let them depart from your sight;Keep them in the midst of your heart.
Watch over your heart with all diligence,For from it flow the springs of life.
And you say, “How I have hated instruction!And my heart spurned reproof!
Who with perversity in his heart continually devises evil,Who spreads strife.
A heart that devises wicked plans,Feet that run rapidly to evil,
Bind them continually on your heart;Tie them around your neck.
Do not desire her beauty in your heart,Nor let her capture you with her eyelids.
Bind them on your fingers;Write them on the tablet of your heart.
And behold, a woman comes to meet him,Dressed as a harlot and cunning of heart.
Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways,Do not stray into her paths.
The wise of heart will receive commands,But a babbling fool will be ruined.
The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver,The heart of the wicked is worth little.
The perverse in heart are an abomination to the Lord,But the blameless in their walk are His delight.
Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil,But counselors of peace have joy.
A prudent man conceals knowledge,But the heart of fools proclaims folly.
Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down,But a good word makes it glad.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick,But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
The heart knows its own bitterness,And a stranger does not share its joy.
Even in laughter the heart may be in pain,And the end of joy may be grief.
The backslider in heart will have his fill of his own ways,But a good man will be satisfied with his.
A tranquil heart is life to the body,But passion is rottenness to the bones.
Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding,But in the hearts of fools it is made known.
A joyful heart makes a cheerful face,But when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken.
All the days of the afflicted are bad,But a cheerful heart has a continual feast.
The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer,But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
Bright eyes gladden the heart;Good news puts fat on the bones.
The plans of the heart belong to man,But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.
Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord;Assuredly, he will not be unpunished.
The wise in heart will be called understanding,And sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.
The heart of the wise instructs his mouthAnd adds persuasiveness to his lips.
A joyful heart is good medicine,But a broken spirit dries up the bones.
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty,But humility goes before honor.
The foolishness of man ruins his way,And his heart rages against the Lord.
Many plans are in a man’s heart,But the counsel of the Lord will stand.
A plan in the heart of a man is like deep water,But a man of understanding draws it out.
Who can say, “I have cleansed my heart,I am pure from my sin”?
The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord;He turns it wherever He wishes.
Haughty eyes and a proud heart,The lamp of the wicked, is sin.
He who loves purity of heartAnd whose speech is gracious, the king is his friend.
Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;The rod of discipline will remove it far from him.
