The kings of the earth take their stand;And the rulers take counsel togetherAgainst the Lord and His Anointed (the Davidic King, the Messiah, the Christ), saying,

He who sits [enthroned] in the heavens laughs [at their rebellion];The [Sovereign] Lord scoffs at them [and in supreme contempt He mocks them].

O Lord, how my enemies have increased!Many are rising up against me.

With my voice I was crying to the Lord,And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah.

Return, O Lord, rescue my soul;Save me because of Your [unfailing] steadfast love and mercy.

Depart from me, all you who do evil,For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.

The Lord has heard my supplication [my plea for grace];The Lord receives my prayer.

O Lord my God, in You I take refuge;Save me and rescue me from all those who pursue me,

O Lord my God, if I have done this,If there is injustice in my hands,

Arise, O Lord, in Your anger;Lift up Yourself against the rage of my enemies;Rise up for me; You have commanded judgment and vindication.

The Lord judges the peoples;Judge me, O Lord, and grant me justice according to my righteousness and according to the integrity within me.

I will give thanks to the Lord according to His righteousness and justice,And I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

O Lord, our Lord,How majestic and glorious and excellent is Your name in all the earth!You have displayed Your splendor above the heavens.

His ways prosper at all times;Your judgments [Lord] are on high, out of his sight [so he never thinks about them];As for all his enemies, he sneers at them.

In the Lord I take refuge [and put my trust];How can you say to me, “Flee like a bird to your mountain;

For the Lord is [absolutely] righteous, He loves righteousness (virtue, morality, justice);The upright shall see His face.

Save and help and rescue, Lord, for godly people cease to be,For the faithful vanish from among the sons of men.

May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,The tongue that speaks great things [in boasting];

Who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail;Our lips are our own; who is lord and master over us?”

You, O Lord, will preserve and keep them;You will protect him from this [evil] generation forever.

Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;Give light (life) to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,

I will sing to the Lord,Because He has dealt bountifully with me.

The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the children of menTo see if there are any who understand (act wisely),Who [truly] seek after God, [longing for His wisdom and guidance].

Have all the workers of wickedness and injustice no knowledge,Who eat up my people as they eat bread,And do not call upon the Lord?

You [evildoers] shamefully plan against the poor,But the Lord is his safe refuge.

Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!When the Lord restores His captive people,Then Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.

O Lord, who may lodge [as a guest] in Your tent?Who may dwell [continually] on Your holy hill?

In his eyes an evil person is despised,But he honors those who fear the Lord [and obediently worship Him with awe-inspired reverence and submissive wonder].He keeps his word even to his own disadvantage and does not change it [for his own benefit];

The Lord is the portion of my inheritance, my cup [He is all I need];You support my lot.

Hear the just (righteous) cause, O Lord; listen to my loud [piercing] cry;Listen to my prayer, that comes from guileless lips.

From men with Your hand, O Lord,From men of the world [these moths of the night] whose portion [of enjoyment] is in this life—idle and vain,And whose belly You fill with Your treasure;They are satisfied with children,And they leave what they have left [of wealth] to their children.

In my distress [when I seemed surrounded] I called upon the LordAnd cried to my God for help;He heard my voice from His temple,And my cry for help came before Him, into His very ears.

The Lord also thundered in the heavens,And the Most High uttered His voice,Hailstones and coals of fire.

Then the stream beds of the waters appeared,And the foundations of the world were laid bareAt Your rebuke, O Lord,At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.

They confronted me in the day of my disaster,But the Lord was my support.

The Lord dealt with me according to my righteousness (moral character, spiritual integrity);According to the cleanness of my hands He has rewarded me.

For I have kept the ways of the Lord,And have not wickedly departed from my God.

Therefore the Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness (moral character, spiritual integrity),According to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.

For You cause my lamp to be lighted and to shine;The Lord my God illumines my darkness.

They cried for help, but there was no one to save them—Even to the Lord [they cried], but He did not answer them.

The Lord lives, blessed be my rock;And may the God of my salvation be exalted,

Therefore will I give thanks and praise You, O Lord, among the nations,And sing praises to Your name.

Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed;He will answer him from His holy heavenWith the saving strength of His right hand.

O Lord, save [the king];May the King answer us in the day we call.
