The Destruction Of The Temple Predicted

1 As Jesus left the Temple, His disciples approached Him as He was walking along the road and pointed out the Temple buildings.

1 (A)Jesus (B)came out from the temple and was going away (a)when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him.

1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

1 As Jesus left and was going out of the temple complex,(A) His disciples(B) came up and called His attention to the temple buildings.

1 As Jesus left the Temple and was walking away, his disciples came up to him to point out to him the Temple buildings.

2 He responded to them by saying, "Do you see all these structures? Truly I tell you, there will not be one stone left on another here that will not be thrown down."

2 And He said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, (C)not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.”

2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

2 Then He replied to them, “Don’t you see all these things? I assure you: Not one stone will be left here on another that will not be thrown down!”

2 But he told them, "You see all these things, don't you? I tell all of you with certainty, there isn't a single stone here that will be left standing on top of another. They will all be torn down."

Signs Of The End Of The Age

3 And as He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, His disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things [you just spoke of] happen? And what will be the sign that indicates your presence and the end of the [present] age?"

3 As He was sitting on (D)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of (E)Your coming, and of the (b)end of the age?”

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

3 While He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached Him privately and said, “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what is the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?”(C)

3 While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately and said, "Tell us, when will these things take place, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"

4 And Jesus answered them, "Pay attention so that no one leads you astray [from the truth].

4 And Jesus answered and said to them, (F)See to it that no one misleads you.

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

4 Then Jesus replied to them: “Watch out that no one deceives(D) you.

4 Jesus answered them, "See to it that no one deceives you,

5 For many [false teachers] will come, claiming to be me, and saying, 'I am the Christ [i.e., God's specially chosen one]' and they will lead many people away [from the truth].

5 For (G)many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the (c)Christ,’ and will mislead many.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and they will deceive many.(E)

5 because many will come in my name and say, "I'm the Messiah,' and they will deceive many people.

6 And you will hear of wars [going on] and rumors of [other] wars [pending]. Do not worry, for such things must necessarily happen. But the end has not yet come. [Note: By "the end" here Jesus probably alludes to the downfall of Jerusalem, in AD 70, with its attending destruction of the Temple buildings].

6 You will be hearing of (H)wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

6 You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, because these things must take place, but the end is not yet.

6 You'll hear of wars and rumors of wars. See to it that you aren't alarmed. These things must take place, but the end hasn't come yet,

7 For nations will wage war against one another, and kingdoms will attack one another. And famines and earthquakes will occur at various places [in the world].

7 For (I)nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be (J)famines and earthquakes.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

7 For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines(a)(F) and earthquakes in various places.(G)

7 because nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

8 But all these things are [only] the beginning of terrible times.

8 (K)But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

8 All these events are the beginning of birth pains.(H)

8 But all these things are only the beginning of the birth pains."

Persecution Of Disciples Predicted

9 At that time people will turn you over [to the authorities] for persecution and will [even] kill you. And people from all countries will hate you for being loyal to me.

9 (L)Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and (M)you will be hated by all nations because of My name.

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

9 “Then they will hand you over for persecution,(b) and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of My name.(I)

9 "Then they'll hand you over to suffer and will kill you, and you'll be hated by all the nations because of my name.

10 And then many people will fall away [from God] and they will turn one another over [i.e., to the authorities for punishment], and they will hate one another.

10 At that time many will (d)(N)fall away and will (e)betray one another and hate one another.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

10 Then many will take offense, betray one another and hate one another.

10 Then many people will fall away, will betray one another, and will hate one another.

11 And many false prophets will appear and will lead many people away [from the truth].

11 Many (O)false prophets will arise and will mislead many.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

11 Many false prophets(J) will rise up and deceive many.

11 Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people,

12 And because sin will abound, many people will grow cold in their love [for one another].

12 Because lawlessness is increased, (f)most people’s love will grow cold.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

12 Because lawlessness(K) will multiply, the love of many will grow cold.

12 and because lawlessness will increase, the love of many people will grow cold.

13 But the person who holds out [i.e., remains faithful to God] until the end [i.e., of this time of severe persecution] will be saved [from destruction].

13 (P)But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

13 But the one who endures to the end will be delivered.(c)

13 But the person who endures to the end will be saved.

14 And this good news concerning the kingdom [of heaven] will be preached to people throughout the world as a testimony [of God's message] to all nations. Then, [after that] the end [i.e., of Jerusalem, the Temple, etc.] will come.

14 This (Q)gospel of the kingdom (R)shall be preached in the whole (g)(S)world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

14 This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world(d) as a testimony to all nations.(L) And then the end will come.(M)

14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

The Abomination Of Desolation

15 "Therefore, when you see that disgusting thing which causes total destruction [i.e., the Roman armies. See Luke 21:20], which Daniel the prophet spoke about [Dan. 9:27; 11:31; 12:11], standing in the sacred place [i.e., Jerusalem and especially the Temple area], (let the reader understand [what is meant by this]),

15 “Therefore when you see the (T)abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in (U)the holy place ((V)let the reader understand),

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

15 “So when you see the abomination that causes desolation,(e)(f) spoken of by the prophet Daniel,(N) standing in the holy place”(O) (let the reader understand(g)),

15 "So when you see the destructive desecration, mentioned by the prophet Daniel, standing in the Holy Place (let the reader take note),

16 then those [of you] in Judea are to run away into the [nearby] mountains.

16 then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.

16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

16 “then those in Judea must flee to the mountains!

16 then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.

17 [Also], the person who is on a housetop [Note: This was a flat area where people retired for rest, prayer, etc., with its stairway on the outside], is not to take any of the belongings from his house as he comes down [to flee].

17 (h)Whoever is on (W)the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house.

17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

17 A man on the housetop(h) must not come down to get things out of his house.(P)

17 Anyone who's on the housetop must not come down to get what is in his house,

18 The person who is in a field [i.e., doing farm work] is not [even] to return [to his house] to get his coat.

18 (i)Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.

18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

18 And a man in the field must not go back to get his clothes.

18 and anyone who's in the field must not turn back to get his coat.

19 It will be too bad for those who are pregnant and who are nursing babies in those days.

19 But (X)woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!

19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

19 Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days!

19 "How terrible it will be for women who are pregnant or who are nursing babies in those days!

20 And pray that it will not be in the winter or on a Sabbath day when you will have to flee [from the city]. [Note: Jewish Sabbath day restrictions on travel (only three-fifths of a mile) and city gate closures would make leaving the city nearly impossible].

20 But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath.

20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

20 Pray that your escape may not be in winter or on a Sabbath.

20 Pray that it may not be in winter or on a Sabbath when you flee,

21 There will be great trouble [during these times], such as had never been from the beginning of time up to the present, or ever will be [in the days to come].

21 For then there will be a (Y)great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.

21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

21 For at that time there will be great tribulation,(Q) the kind that hasn’t taken place from the beginning of the world until now and never will again!

21 because at that time there will be great suffering, the kind that hasn't happened from the beginning of the world until now and certainly won't ever happen again.

22 And if those days had not been as short as they were no one would have been saved [i.e., from the devastating destruction]. But for the sake of the elect [i.e., God's people], those days will be short.

22 Unless those days had been cut short, no (j)life would have been saved; but for (Z)the sake of the (k)elect those days will be cut short.

22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

22 Unless those days were limited, no one would(i) survive.(j) But those days will be limited because of the elect.(R)

22 If those days hadn't been limited, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be limited.

23 Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is Christ,' or 'There [he is],' do not believe him.

23 (AA)Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the (l)Christ,’ or ‘(m)There He is,’ do not believe him.

23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

23 “If anyone tells you then, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’(S) or, ‘Over here!’ do not believe it!(T)

23 "At that time, if anyone says to you, "Look! Here's the Messiah!' or "There he is!', don't believe it,

24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and they will perform great [miraculous] signs and [supernatural] wonders in order to lead astray even the elect [i.e., God's people], if possible.

24 For false Christs and (AB)false prophets will arise and will (n)show great (o)(AC)signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even (AD)the (p)elect.

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

24 False messiahs(k) and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray,(U) if possible, even the elect.

24 because false messiahs and false prophets will appear and display great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

25 You see, I have told you [all this] ahead of time.

25 Behold, I have told you in advance.

25 Behold, I have told you before.

25 Take note: I have told you in advance.

25 Remember, I've told you this beforehand.

26 Therefore, if people say to you, 'Look, he [i.e., Christ. See verse 23] is in the desert,' do not go out there. [Or if they say], 'Look, he is in an inside room,' do not believe him.

26 So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them.

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

26 So if they tell you, ‘Look, He’s in the wilderness!’ don’t go out; ‘Look, He’s in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.

26 So if they say to you, "Look! He's in the wilderness,' don't go out looking for him. And if they say, "Look! He's in the storeroom,' don't believe it,

27 For just like lightning that appears in the east can be seen even in the west, so it will be with the presence [i.e., coming] of the Son of man.

27 (AE)For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the (AF)coming of the (AG)Son of Man be.

27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.(V)

27 because just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

28 Wherever there is a dead body, [you can expect to see] vultures gathered there. [Note: This may mean that such a significant event as the coming of Christ would surely not go unnoticed].

28 (AH)Wherever the corpse is, there the (q)vultures will gather.

28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

28 Wherever the carcass is, there the vultures(l) will gather.(W)

28 Wherever there's a corpse, there the vultures will gather.

The Arrival Of The Son Of Man

29 "But immediately after the terrible trouble of those days, [i.e., the next major event on God's calendar], the sun will become dark, and [therefore] the moon will not [be able to] shed its [reflected] light. The stars will fall from the sky and the forces of the heavens will be shaken [Note: From the description of these same events in Luke 21:25-26, it is possible that this is figurative language for great calamities happening on the earth].

29 “But immediately after the (AI)tribulation of those days (AJ)the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and (AK)the stars will fall from (r)the sky, and the powers of (s)the heavens will be shaken.

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

29 “Immediately after the tribulation(X) of those days:The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light;the stars will fall from the sky,and the celestial powers will be shaken.

29 "Immediately after the troubles of those days, "The sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of heaven will be shaken loose.'

30 Then the sign [i.e., signifying the coming] of the Son of man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will be stricken with grief as they see the Son of man coming in the clouds of the sky [See Acts 1:9-11] with power and great splendor.

30 And then (AL)the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see (AM)the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

30 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth(m) will mourn;(n) and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.(Y)

30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all "the tribes of the land will mourn' when they see "the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven' with power and great glory.

31 And He will send out His angels [i.e., as messengers] with the sound of a great trumpet [See I Thess. 4:16] to gather His elect [i.e., God's people] from all directions, [even] from throughout the whole world. [Note: See Mark 13:27, which suggests this thought by its use of 'earth' and 'sky']

31 And (AN)He will send forth His angels with (AO)a great trumpet and they will gather together His (t)(AP)elect from (AQ)the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

31 He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet,(Z) and they will gather His elect from the four winds,(AA) from one end of the sky to the other.

31 He'll send out his angels with a loud trumpet blast, and they'll gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to another."

The Parable Of The Fig Tree

32 "Now learn this parable [i.e., a brief analogy to illustrate a lesson] from the fig tree: When its tender sprouts appear and its leaves begin to develop, you know that summer is near.

32 “Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near;

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

32 “Now learn this parable(AB) from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near.

32 "Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches become tender and it produces leaves, you know that summer is near.

33 In the same way also, when you see all these things happening, you [should] know that He [i.e., Jesus] is as near as your [front] door.

33 so, you too, when you see all these things, (u)recognize that (v)He is near, right (AR)at the (w)door.

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

33 In the same way, when you see all these things, recognize(o) that He(p) is near—at the door!(AC)

33 In the same way, when you see all these things, you'll know that the Son of Man is near, right at the door.

34 Truly I tell you, the people of this generation will not [all] die off before all these things [i.e., mentioned above] happen.

34 Truly I say to you, (AS)this (x)generation will not pass away until all these things take place.

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

34 I assure you: This generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place.(AD)

34 I tell all of you with certainty, this generation won't disappear until these things happen.

35 [Although] the sky and the earth will pass away [See II Pet. 3:10], my words will not pass away [i.e., they will certainly come true].

35 (AT)Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

35 Heaven and earth will pass away,(AE) but My words will never pass away.(AF)

35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear."

The Unknown Day And Hour

36 "But no one knows when that day or hour will come. Not even the angels in heaven or the Son [of God] know [when it will happen], but only the Father [does].

36 “But (AU)of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

36 “Now concerning that day and hour no one knows—neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son(q) —except the Father only.(AG)

36 "No one knows when that day or hour will come not the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father,

37 As it was during the days of Noah, so it will be when the presence of the Son of man [arrives].

37 For (y)the (AV)coming of the Son of Man will be (AW)just like the days of Noah.

37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

37 As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.

37 because just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.

38 For in those days before the Flood, people were eating and drinking [i.e., partaking of ordinary meals], men were getting married and women were being given away in marriage [right up] until the day Noah entered the ship.

38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, (AX)marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that (AY)Noah entered the ark,

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

38 For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark.(AH)

38 In those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage right up to the day when Noah went into the ark.

39 And the people [i.e., of Noah's day] did not know [when it would happen] until the Flood came and swept them all away. It will be the same way when the presence of the Son of man [arrives].

39 and they did not (z)understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the (AZ)coming of the Son of Man be.

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

39 They didn’t know(r) until the flood came and swept them all away. So this is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be:

39 They were unaware of what was happening until the flood came and swept all of them away. That's how it will be when the Son of Man comes.

40 At that time there will be two men [working] in a field; one will be taken [i.e., to be with the Lord. See I Thess. 4:17], while the other one will be left [i.e., to be punished by the Lord. See II Thess. 1:7-9].

40 Then there will be two men in the field; one (aa)will be taken and one (ab)will be left.

40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one left.

40 At that time, two people will be in the field. One will be taken, and one will be left behind.

41 Two women will be grinding grain at a millstone [Note: This was a hand-operated device where two persons sat across from each other and rotated a circular stone over kernels of grain]; one will be taken, while the other one will be left.

41 (BA)Two women will be grinding at the (ac)(BB)mill; one (ad)will be taken and one (ae)will be left.

41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and one left.(AI)

41 Two women will be grinding grain at the mill. One will be taken, and one will be left behind.

42 Therefore be alert, for you do not know on what day the Lord will come.

42 “Therefore (BC)be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

42 Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day(s) your Lord is coming.(AJ)

42 "So keep on watching, because you don't know on what day your Lord is coming.

43 But you should know this: if the owner of a house had known when a thief was coming, he would have been watching so as not to allow his house to be broken into.

43 But (af)be sure of this, that (BD)if the head of the house had known (BE)at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be (ag)broken into.

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

43 But know this: If the homeowner had known what time(t) the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into.(AK)

43 But be sure of this: if the owner of the house had known when during the night the thief would be coming, he would have stayed awake and not allowed his house to be broken into.

44 Therefore, you also should be ready, for the Son of man will come at a time when you least expect Him.

44 For this reason (BF)you also must be ready; for (BG)the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

44 This is why you also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.(AL)

44 So you, too, must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you are not expecting."

A Faithful Slave And An Unfaithful Slave

45 "Who then, is the trustworthy and sensible slave, to whom his master has assigned the management of his household to provide timely meals for its members?

45 (BH)Who then is the (BI)faithful and (BJ)sensible slave whom his (ah)master (BK)put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time?

45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

45 “Who then is a faithful and sensible slave,(AM) whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give them food at the proper time?(AN)

45 "Who, then, is the faithful and wise servant whom his master has put in charge of his household to give the others their food at the right time?

46 That slave will be happy when his master returns to find him doing his job [well].

46 Blessed is that slave whom his (ai)master finds so doing when he comes.

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

46 That slave whose master finds him working(AO) when he comes will be rewarded.

46 How blessed is that servant whom his master finds doing this when he comes!

47 Truly I tell you, he will put that slave in charge of his entire estate.

47 Truly I say to you that (BL)he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

47 I assure you: He will put him in charge of all his possessions.

47 I tell all of you with certainty, he will put him in charge of all his property.

48 But if that slave, with evil intent, should think to himself, 'My master will not be back very soon,'

48 But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My (aj)master (ak)is not coming for a long time,’

48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;

48 But if that wicked slave says in his heart, ‘My master is delayed,’

48 "But if that wicked servant says to himself, "My master has been delayed,'

49 and then becomes physically abusive to his fellow-slaves, and eats and drinks [at parties] with drunkards,

49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards;

49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

49 and starts to beat his fellow slaves, and eats and drinks with drunkards,(AP)

50 that slave's master will return on a day that he least expects, and at an unknown hour.

50 the (al)master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know,

50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

50 that slave’s master will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know.

50 that servant's master will come on a day when he doesn't expect him and at an hour that he doesn't know.

51 And [that master] will whip him to shreds and will turn him over to suffer the same fate as hypocrites do. That fate will involve crying and excruciating pain."

51 and will (am)cut him in pieces and (an)assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be (BM)weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51 He will cut him to pieces(u) and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51 Then his master will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
