But woe to those with child, and having children at the breast in those days; for there shall be great distress on the earth, and wrath against this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and be carried away captive to all nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by gentiles, till the times of gentiles are fully accomplished. And there shall be signs in the sun, and moon, and stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity [at] the roaring of the sea and waves,
These things have I told you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have affliction; but be of good courage, I have overcome the world.
confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many afflictions we must enter into the kingdom of God.
And not only [this], but we rejoice also in afflictions, knowing that affliction works out patience,
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall affliction or distress, persecution or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?
rejoice in the hope, be patient in affliction, be persevering in prayer,
I think then that this is good on account of the present necessity, because it is good for man to be so.
I have great boldness towards you, and great glorying on your account; I am full of comfort, I have a super-abounding joy in all our afflictions.
for indeed when we came to you, we told you before that we were about to suffer affliction, as it also happened, and you know.
therefore we were comforted, brothers, on your account in all our affliction and distress by your faith,
so that we boast of you in the churches of God, of your patience and faith, in all your persecutions and the afflictions which you endure,
