40 Bible Verses about Faithlessness, As Disobedience

And when he has come, he will convince the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. Of sin, because they believe not on me;

and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for all have not the disposition for faith.

To the pure, all things are pure: but to the denied and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but their mind and their conscience are denied. They profess that they know God, but in their works they deny him, being detestable and disobedient, and, as it respects every good work, rejected.

Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the Magi, was greatly enraged, and sent out and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem and in all its borders, from the age of two years and under, according to the time which he had strictly inquired of the Magi.

And at that time there was no little excitement about that way. For a certain man, named Demetrius, a silversmith, by making silver shrines for Diana, furnished no little trade to the artists. and you see and hear, that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost the whole of Asia, this Paul, by his persuasions, has drawn away a great multitude, saying, that they which are made with hands are not gods. Now there is danger, not only that this our calling will come into disgrace, but that the temple of the great goddess Diana will be despised, and that the majesty of her whom all Asia and the world worships, will be destroyed.

He that believes on the Son has eternal life. But he that believes not the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

He that believes and is immersed, shall be saved; he that believes not, shall be condemned.

Therefore said I to you, that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am, He, you shall die in your sins.

that all may be condemned who believe not the truth, but have pleasure in unrighteousness.

But the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the detestable, and murderers and lewd persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, shall have their part in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

But though he had done so many signs in their presence, yet they believed not on him, that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Verily, verily, I say to you, we speak that which we know, and testify to that which we have seen; and you receive not our testimony. If I have told you of earthly things, and you believe not, how will you believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

And the Father, who sent me, has testified concerning me. You have, neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. And his word you have not remaining in you; for whom he has sent, him you believe not. You search the scriptures, because in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify concerning me:read more.
and yet you refuse to come to me, that you may have life.

But because I speak the truth, you believe me not.

Jesus answered them: I have told you, and you do not believe. The works which I do in my Father's name, these testify of me. But you believe not, because you are not of my sheep. As I said to you,

And he did not many mighty works there, on account of their unbelief.

And he was unable to do any mighty deed there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick persons and cured them; and he wondered at their unbelief. And he went to the villages round about, and taught.

Jesus said to him: If you would be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. When the young man heard that saying, he went away grieved; for he had great possessions.

And Jesus, looking on him, loved him, and said to him: One thing you lack; go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and fol low me. But becoming sad at that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

When Jesus heard this, he said to him: One thing you yet lack; sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. And when he heard this, he was very sad, for he was very rich.

And some believed the things that were spoken, and some believed not.

me, I say, who before was a reviler and a persecutor and an overbearing man. But I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief:

This was from the Lord, and it is wondrous in our eyes. For this reason, I say to you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation that will bring forth the fruits of it.

They said to him: He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and let out his vineyard to other vine dressers, who will give him the fruits in their season.

What, then, will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy those vine-dressers, and give his vineyard to others.

And why? Because they sought it not by faith, but as if by works of law: for they stumbled against that stone of stumbling, as it is written: Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense: and whoever believes on him, shall not be ashamed.

And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, have been grafted in among them, and partake with them of the root and fatness of the olive, boast not against the branches; but if you boast, boast not that you bear the root, but that the root bears you. You will say then: The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.read more.
Well; on ac count of unbelief they were broken off; but you stand by faith. Be not high-minded, but fear. For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed, lest he spare not you.

Thus, then, at the present time also, there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

I say, then, Have they stumbled, in order that they may fall? It can not be. But rather, through their fall, salvation has come to the Gentiles, to excite them to jealousy. Now, if their fall be the riches of the world, and their loss be the riches of the Gentiles, how much more shall their full acceptance be the riches of the world?

But when he saw the wind strong, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying: Lord, save me. And Jesus immediately stretched out his hand, and took hold of him, and said to him: you of little faith, why did you doubt?

If then, God so clothes the herb of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, you of little faith? Therefore, be not anxious, saying: What shall we eat? or, what shall we drink? or, with what shall we be clothed? For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

If, then, God so clothes the herb of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, you of little faith? And seek not what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, and be not in anxious suspense. For all these things the nations of the world seek after; but your Father knows that you have need of these things.

And behold, there was a great tempest in the sea, so that the ship was covered by the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying: Lord, save us; we perish. And he said to them: Why are you fearful, you of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea: and there was a great calm.

And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on the pillow. And they awoke him, and said to him: Teacher, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea: Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said to them: Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?

And while they were sailing, he fell asleep. And a storm of wind came down upon the lake, and they began to be filled, and were in danger. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying: Master, master, we perish. But he arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said to them: "Where is your faith? And being afraid, they wondered, and said one to another: "Who, then, is this, that he commands even the wind and the water, and they obey him?

Jesus answered and said: faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the demon, and he came out of him: and the child was cured from that hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said: Why were we not able to cast him out?read more.
And Jesus said to them: Because of your unbelief. For verily I say to you, If you have faith like a grain of mustard-seed, you shall say to this mountain, Be removed from this place to that, and it shall be removed: and nothing shall be impossible for you.

And one of the multitude answered and said: Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a dumb spirit. And wherever it seizes him, it throws him into convulsions; and he foams, and gnashes with his teeth, and pines away: and I spoke to your disciples to cast him out, and they were not able. And he answered them, and said: faithless generation! how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.

And I entreated thy disciples to cast it out; but they were not able. And Jesus answering, said: unbelieving and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and bear with you! Bring your son hither. And while he was coming, the demon cast him to the ground, and threw him into convulsions; but Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and restored the child to health, and gave him back to his father.

And Jesus perceiving it, said to them: you of little faith! why are you reasoning among yourselves because you took no bread? Do you not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up? Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?

And he said to them: inconsiderate, and slow of heart to believe all things that the prophets have spoken!
