'Love' in the Bible
"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor' and 'hate your enemy.'
But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you,
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors do the same, don't they?
"Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
"No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
"Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I take great delight. I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself."
Jesus said to him, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
The second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
They love the place of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues
and because lawlessness will increase so much, the love of many will grow cold.
As Jesus looked at him, he felt love for him and said, "You lack one thing. Go, sell whatever you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'
The second is: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
And to love him with all your heart, with all your mind, and with all your strength and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
"But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people.
When they could not pay, he canceled the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?"
The expert answered, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself."
"But woe to you Pharisees! You give a tenth of your mint, rue, and every herb, yet you neglect justice and love for God! But you should have done these things without neglecting the others.
Woe to you Pharisees! You love the best seats in the synagogues and elaborate greetings in the marketplaces!
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."
"Beware of the experts in the law. They like walking around in long robes, and they love elaborate greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
but I know you, that you do not have the love of God within you.
Jesus replied, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come from God and am now here. I have not come on my own initiative, but he sent me.
So the sisters sent a message to Jesus, "Lord, look, the one you love is sick."
"I give you a new commandment -- to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
Everyone will know by this that you are my disciples -- if you have love for one another."
"If you love me, you will obey my commandments.
The person who has my commandments and obeys them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him."
Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.
The person who does not love me does not obey my words. And the word you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.
but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up, let us go from here."
"Just as the Father has loved me, I have also loved you; remain in my love.
If you obey my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commandments and remain in his love.
My commandment is this -- to love one another just as I have loved you.
No one has greater love than this -- that one lays down his life for his friends.
This I command you -- to love one another.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you do not belong to the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this reason the world hates you.
I made known your name to them, and I will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them, and I may be in them."
Then when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these do?" He replied, "Yes, Lord, you know I love you." Jesus told him, "Feed my lambs."
Jesus said a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He replied, "Yes, Lord, you know I love you." Jesus told him, "Shepherd my sheep."
Jesus said a third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that Jesus asked him a third time, "Do you love me?" and said, "Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you." Jesus replied, "Feed my sheep.
And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose,
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Love must be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil, cling to what is good.
Be devoted to one another with mutual love, showing eagerness in honoring one another.
Owe no one anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
For the commandments, "Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet," (and if there is any other commandment) are summed up in this, "Love your neighbor as yourself."
Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
For if your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy by your food someone for whom Christ died.
Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to join fervently with me in prayer to God on my behalf.
But just as it is written, "Things that no eye has seen, or ear heard, or mind imagined, are the things God has prepared for those who love him."
What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline or with love and a spirit of gentleness?
With regard to food sacrificed to idols, we know that "we all have knowledge." Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give away everything I own, and if I give over my body in order to boast, but do not have love, I receive no benefit.
Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up.
Love never ends. But if there are prophecies, they will be set aside; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be set aside.
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.
Everything you do should be done in love.
Let anyone who has no love for the Lord be accursed. Our Lord, come!
My love be with all of you in Christ Jesus.
For out of great distress and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not to make you sad, but to let you know the love that I have especially for you.
Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.
For the love of Christ controls us, since we have concluded this, that Christ died for all; therefore all have died.
by purity, by knowledge, by patience, by benevolence, by the Holy Spirit, by genuine love,

Now I will most gladly spend and be spent for your lives! If I love you more, am I to be loved less?
Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice, set things right, be encouraged, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight -- the only thing that matters is faith working through love.
For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh, but through love serve one another.
For the whole law can be summed up in a single commandment, namely, "You must love your neighbor as yourself."

with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
But practicing the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ, who is the head.
From him the whole body grows, fitted and held together through every supporting ligament. As each one does its part, the body grows in love.
and live in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.
Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her
In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
Nevertheless, each one of you must also love his own wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Peace to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace be with all of those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
And I pray this, that your love may abound even more and more in knowledge and every kind of insight
The latter do so from love because they know that I am placed here for the defense of the gospel.
