Then Satan answered the Lord, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
“He will rescue you from six troubles;Even in seven, evil will not touch you.
“You will know also that your tent is secure and at peace,And you will visit your dwelling and fear no loss [nor find anything amiss].
“For we are only of yesterday and know nothing,Because our days on earth are [like] a shadow [just a breath or a vapor].
“But as a mountain, if it falls, crumbles into nothing,And as the rock is moved from its place,
“There is nothing left of what he devoured;Therefore his prosperity does not endure.
“For you have taken pledges of your brothers without cause,And stripped men naked.
“It is He who spreads out the north over emptinessAnd hangs the earth on nothing.
“For tragedy from God is a terror to me,And because of His majesty and exaltation I can do nothing [nor endure facing Him].
“And shall I wait, because they say nothing,But stand still and say no more?
“For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothingWhen he takes delight and is pleased with God and obeys Him.’
