'Saying' in the Bible

All were astounded and greatly confused, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"

saying, "What should we do with these men? For it is plain to all who live in Jerusalem that a notable miraculous sign has come about through them, and we cannot deny it.

saying, "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name. Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man's blood on us!"

They brought forward false witnesses who said, "This man does not stop saying things against this holy place and the law.

For we have heard him saying that Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us."

The next day Moses saw two men fighting, and tried to make peace between them, saying, 'Men, you are brothers; why are you hurting one another?'

But the man who was unfairly hurting his neighbor pushed Moses aside, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and judge over us?

This same Moses they had rejected, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and judge?' God sent as both ruler and deliverer through the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

saying to Aaron, 'Make us gods who will go in front of us, for this Moses, who led us out of the land of Egypt -- we do not know what has happened to him!'

All the people, from the least to the greatest, paid close attention to him, saying, "This man is the power of God that is called 'Great.'"

saying, "Give me this power too, so that everyone I place my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit."

Then the eunuch said to Philip, "Please tell me, who is the prophet saying this about -- himself or someone else?"

He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?"

and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying, "This man is the Son of God."

All who heard him were amazed and were saying, "Is this not the man who in Jerusalem was ravaging those who call on this name, and who had come here to bring them as prisoners to the chief priests?"

But Peter helped him up, saying, "Stand up. I too am a mere mortal."

saying, "You went to uncircumcised men and shared a meal with them."

But Peter began and explained it to them point by point, saying,

I also heard a voice saying to me, 'Get up, Peter; slaughter and eat!'

He informed us how he had seen an angel standing in his house and saying, 'Send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter,

When they heard this, they ceased their objections and praised God, saying, "So then, God has granted the repentance that leads to life even to the Gentiles."

Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the prison cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up, saying, "Get up quickly!" And the chains fell off Peter's wrists.

But they said to her, "You've lost your mind!" But she kept insisting that it was Peter, and they kept saying, "It is his angel!"

After the reading from the law and the prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent them a message, saying, "Brothers, if you have any message of exhortation for the people, speak it."

But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and they began to contradict what Paul was saying by reviling him.

Even by saying these things, they scarcely persuaded the crowds not to offer sacrifice to them.

A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, a God-fearing woman, listened to us. The Lord opened her heart to respond to what Paul was saying.

At daybreak the magistrates sent their police officers, saying, "Release those men."

The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, "The magistrates have sent orders to release you. So come out now and go in peace."

explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and to rise from the dead, saying, "This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ."

and Jason has welcomed them as guests! They are all acting against Caesar's decrees, saying there is another king named Jesus!"

So they took Paul and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, "May we know what this new teaching is that you are proclaiming?

saying, "This man is persuading people to worship God in a way contrary to the law!"

But some itinerant Jewish exorcists tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were possessed by evil spirits, saying, "I sternly warn you by Jesus whom Paul preaches."

And you see and hear that this Paul has persuaded and turned away a large crowd, not only in Ephesus but in practically all of the province of Asia, by saying that gods made by hands are not gods at all.

After the disturbance had ended, Paul sent for the disciples, and after encouraging them and saying farewell, he left to go to Macedonia.

Then I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?'

and saw the Lord saying to me, 'Hurry and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about me.'

When the centurion heard this, he went to the commanding officer and reported it, saying, "What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman citizen."

When Paul had been summoned, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, "We have experienced a lengthy time of peace through your rule, and reforms are being made in this nation through your foresight.

Then Felix, who understood the facts concerning the Way more accurately, adjourned their hearing, saying, "When Lysias the commanding officer comes down, I will decide your case."

While they were staying there many days, Festus explained Paul's case to the king to get his opinion, saying, "There is a man left here as a prisoner by Felix.

When we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? You are hurting yourself by kicking against the goads.'

As Paul was saying these things in his defense, Festus exclaimed loudly, "You have lost your mind, Paul! Your great learning is driving you insane!"

As day was about to dawn, Paul urged them all to take some food, saying, "Today is the fourteenth day you have been in suspense and have gone without food; you have eaten nothing.
