'Chief Priest' in the Bible
And when he had assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.
From that time Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be put to death, and be raised again the third day.
Be hold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death,
But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David, their anger was aroused,
And after he had come into the temple, the chief priests and elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said: By what authority do you these things? And who gave you this authority?
And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he spoke of them.
Then the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people met together at the palace of the chief priest, who was called Caiaphas.
Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests,
And while he was yet speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people.
And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the servant of the chief priest, and cut off his ear.
And those who took Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the chief priest, where the scribes and elders had come together.
But Peter followed him, at a distance, to the palace of the chief priest, and went in and sat with the attendants, to see the end.
And the chief priests and the elders, and the whole Sanhedrin, sought false testimony against Jesus, that they might put him to death,
And the chief priest arose, and said to him: Do you make no answer? What do these testify against you?
But Jesus remained silent. And the chief priest answered and said to him: I adjure you, by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God?
Then the chief priest rent his clothes, and said: He has spoken impiously; what further need have we of witnesses? See now, you have heard his impious words:
When the morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people held a consultation against Jesus, that they might put him to death.
Then Judas, who had delivered him up, when he saw that he was condemned, stung by remorse, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
And the chief priests took the money, and said: It is not lawful to put it into the sacred treasury, because it is the price of blood.
And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he made no answer.
But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitude to ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
In like manner also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, derided him, and said:
On the morrow, which was the day after the preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees came together to Pilate,
While they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city, and told the chief priests all things that were done.
How he entered the house of God in the days of Abiathar the chief priest, and ate the loaves of the presence, which, it is not lawful, except for the priests, to eat, and gave to those also who were with him?

And one of those who were standing by, drew a sword, and struck the servant of the chief priest, and cut off his ear.
And they led Jesus away to the chief priest; and with him were assembled all the chief priests, and the elders, and the scribes.
And Peter followed him, at a distance, even into the palace of the chief priest, and sat with the attendants, and warmed himself at the fire.
And the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin sought for testimony against Jesus, in order to put him to death, and found none.
And the chief priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying: Do you make no answer? What do these testify against you?
But he was silent, and made no answer. Again, the chief priest asked him, and said to him: Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
And the chief priest rent his clothes, and said: What further need have we of witnesses?
And while Peter was in the court below, one of the maid servants of the chief priest came;
And forthwith in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin, having held a consultation, and having bound Jesus, led him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
And the chief priests accused him of many things.
For he knew that, through envy, the chief priests had delivered him up.
But the chief priests instigated the multitude, that he should rather release Barabbas to them.
Likewise the chief priests, with the scribes, speaking in derision one to another, said: He saved others; himself he can not save.
Annas and Caiaphas being chief priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.

And a certain one of them struck the servant of the chief priest, and cut off his right ear.
And Jesus said to the chief priests, and the captains of the temple, and the elders that had come against him: Have you come out with swords and clubs, as against a robber?
And they took him, and led him away, and brought him into the house of the chief priest. But Peter followed at a distance.
And when it was day, the elders of the people, the chief priests also and scribes, met together, and led him up to the Sanhedrin, and said:
Pilate said to the chief priests and to the multitudes: I find no fault in this man.
And the chief priests and the scribes stood by, and vehemently accused him.
And Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
But they were urgent with loud voices, demanding that he should be crucified. And their voices, and those of the chief priests, prevailed.
and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and chief priests sent attendants to take him.
Then came the attendants to the chief priests and the Pharisees; and they said to them: Why have you not brought him?
Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called together the Sanhedrin, and said: What are we doing? For this man does many signs.
But one of them, Caiaphas, who was chief priest that year, said to them: You know nothing,
But this he did not speak of himself; but being chief priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was about to die for the nation;
Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders, that, if any one knew where he was, he should inform them, that they might take him.
But the chief priests consulted that they might kill Lazarus also,
Judas, then, having received the band of soldiers and attendants from the chief priests and Pharisees, came thither with torches and lamps and weapons.
Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it, and struck the servant of the chief priest, and cut off his right ear. The name of the servant was Malchus.
and led him first to Annas; for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was chief priest that year.
And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. And that other disciple was acquainted with the chief priest, and he went in with Jesus into the palace of the chief priest.
But Peter stood without near the door. Then the other disciple, who was acquainted with the chief priest, went out and spoke to the door-keeper, and brought Peter in.
Then the chief priest questioned Jesus concerning his disciples and his teaching.
When he had spoken thus, one of the attendants, who was standing by, struck Jesus with his open hand, saying: Do you answer the chief priest thus?
Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the chief priest.
One of the servants of the chief priest, who was a kinsman of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said: Did I not see you in the garden with him?
Pilate answered: Am I a Jew? Your own nation, and the chief priests have delivered you to me; what have you done?
When the chief priests and their attendants saw him, they cried out, saying: Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate said to them: Do you take him and crucify him; for I find no fault in him.
But they cried out: Away with him, away with him; crucify him! Pilate said to them: Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered: "We have no king but Caesar
Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pi late: Write not, The king of the Jews; but, that he said, I am the king of the Jews.
and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the chief priest, met together in Jerusalem.
And having been released, they went to their own, and told all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.
But the chief priest arose, and all that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation;
And having heard this, they entered the temple, early in the morning, and taught. But the chief priest, and those who were with him, came and called together the Sanhedrin, and all the eldership of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
When the priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were in doubt about them, what this could mean.
And when they had brought them, they made them stand before the Sanhedrin; and the chief priest asked them,
And the chief priest said: Are these things so?
And Saul, still breathing out threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the chief priest,
