'People' in the Bible

I am not afraid of the thousands of peoplewho have taken their stand against me on every side.

Salvation belongs to the Lord;may Your blessing be on Your people.Selah

Will evildoers never understand?They consume My people as they consume bread;they do not call on the Lord.

Oh, that Israel’s deliverance would come from Zion!When the Lord restores the fortunes of His people,Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.

As for the holy people who are in the land,they are the noble ones.All my delight is in them.

Concerning what people do:by the word of Your lipsI have avoided the ways of the violent.

For You rescue an afflicted people,but You humble those with haughty eyes.

You have freed me from the feuds among the people;You have appointed me the head of nations;a people I had not known serve me.

But I am a worm and not a man,scorned by men and despised by people.

I can count all my bones;people look and stare at me.

They will come and tell a people yet to be bornabout His righteousness—what He has done.

The Lord is the strength of His people;He is a stronghold of salvation for His anointed.

Save Your people, bless Your possession,shepherd them, and carry them forever.

The Lord gives His people strength;the Lord blesses His people with peace.

Happy is the nation whose God is Yahweh—the people He has chosen to be His own possession!

I will praise You in the great congregation;I will exalt You among many people.

God, Your faithful love is so valuablethat people take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.

The little that the righteous man has is betterthan the abundance of many wicked people.

My tears have been my food day and night,while all day long people say to me,“Where is your God?”

You sell Your people for nothing;You make no profit from selling them.

Listen, daughter, pay attention and consider:forget your people and your father’s house,

The daughter of Tyre, the wealthy people,will seek your favor with gifts.

The nobles of the peoples have assembledwith the people of the God of Abraham.For the leaders of the earth belong to God;He is greatly exalted.

Though he praises himself during his lifetime—and people praise you when you do well for yourself—

On high, He summons heaven and earthin order to judge His people.

“Listen, My people, and I will speak;I will testify against you, Israel.I am God, your God.

I will praise You forever for what You have done.In the presence of Your faithful people,I will put my hope in Your name, for it is good.

Do not kill them; otherwise, my people will forget.By Your power, make them homeless wanderersand bring them down,Lord, our shield.

You have made Your people suffer hardship;You have given us wine to drinkthat made us stagger.

Trust in Him at all times, you people;pour out your hearts before Him.God is our refuge.Selah

You visit the earth and water it abundantly,enriching it greatly.God’s stream is filled with water,for You prepare the earth in this way,providing people with grain.

God, when You went out before Your people,when You marched through the desert,Selah

Your people settled in it;God, You provided for the poor by Your goodness.

You ascended to the heights, taking away captives;You received gifts from people,even from the rebellious,so that the Lord God might live there.

People have seen Your procession, God,the procession of my God,my King, in the sanctuary.

God, You are awe-inspiring in Your sanctuaries.The God of Israel gives power and strength to His people.May God be praised!

He will judge Your people with righteousnessand Your afflicted ones with justice.

May the mountains bring prosperity to the peopleand the hills, righteousness.

May he vindicate the afflicted among the people,help the poor,and crush the oppressor.

May there be plenty of grain in the land;may it wave on the tops of the mountains.May its crops be like Lebanon.May people flourish in the citieslike the grass of the field.

They are not in trouble like others;they are not afflicted like most people.

Therefore His people turn to themand drink in their overflowing words.

If I had decided to say these things aloud,I would have betrayed Your people.

Remember this: the enemy has mocked Yahweh,and a foolish people has insulted Your name.

Do not give the life of Your dove to beasts;do not forget the lives of Your poor people forever.

With power You redeemed Your people,the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.Selah

You led Your people like a flockby the hand of Moses and Aaron.

A Maskil of Asaph.My people, hear my instruction;listen to what I say.

Look! He struck the rock and water gushed out;torrents overflowed.But can He also provide breador furnish meat for His people?”

People ate the bread of angels.He sent them an abundant supply of food.

He led His people out like sheepand guided them like a flock in the wilderness.

He surrendered His people to the swordbecause He was enraged with His heritage.

He brought him from tending ewesto be shepherd over His people Jacob—over Israel, His inheritance.

Then we, Your people, the sheep of Your pasture,will thank You forever;we will declare Your praiseto generation after generation.

Listen, My people, and I will admonish you.Israel, if you would only listen to Me!

“But My people did not listen to Me;Israel did not obey Me.

If only My people would listen to Meand Israel would follow My ways,

They devise clever schemes against Your people;they conspire against Your treasured ones.

Happy are the people whose strength is in You,whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.

Will You not revive us againso that Your people may rejoice in You?

I will listen to what God will say;surely the Lord will declare peaceto His people, His godly ones,and not let them go back to foolish ways.

God, arrogant people have attacked me;a gang of ruthless men seeks my life.They have no regard for You.

Happy are the people who know the joyful shout;Yahweh, they walk in the light of Your presence.

You once spoke in a vision to Your loyal onesand said: “I have granted help to a warrior;I have exalted one chosen from the people.

Lord, they crush Your people;they afflict Your heritage.

Pay attention, you stupid people!Fools, when will you be wise?

The Lord will not forsake His peopleor abandon His heritage,

For He is our God,and we are the people of His pasture,the sheep under His care.Today, if you hear His voice:

For 40 years I was disgusted with that generation;I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray;they do not know My ways.”

Acknowledge that Yahweh is God.He made us, and we are His —His people, the sheep of His pasture.

This will be written for a later generation,and a newly created people will praise the Lord:

He revealed His ways to Moses,His deeds to the people of Israel.

The Lord made His people very fruitful;He made them more numerous than their foes,

whose hearts He turned to hate His peopleand to deal deceptively with His servants.

He brought His people out with rejoicing,His chosen ones with shouts of joy.

Remember me, Lord,when You show favor to Your people.Come to me with Your salvation

Therefore the Lord’s anger burned against His people,and He abhorred His own inheritance.

May Yahweh, the God of Israel, be praisedfrom everlasting to everlasting.Let all the people say, “Amen!”Hallelujah!

Let them exalt Him in the assembly of the peopleand praise Him in the council of the elders.

Your people will volunteeron Your day of battle.In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn,the dew of Your youth belongs to You.

He has shown His people the power of His worksby giving them the inheritance of the nations.

He has sent redemption to His people.He has ordained His covenant forever.His name is holy and awe-inspiring.

in order to seat them with nobles—with the nobles of His people.

When Israel came out of Egypt—the house of Jacob from a peoplewho spoke a foreign language—

I will fulfill my vows to the Lordin the presence of all His people.

My eyes pour out streams of tearsbecause people do not follow Your instruction.

Jerusalem—the mountains surround her.And the Lord surrounds His people,both now and forever.

May Your priests be clothed with righteousness,and may Your godly people shout for joy.

I will clothe its priests with salvation,and its godly people will shout for joy.

He struck down the firstborn of Egypt,both man and beast.

He gave their land as an inheritance,an inheritance to His people Israel.

For Yahweh will vindicate His peopleand have compassion on His servants.

He led His people in the wilderness.        His love is eternal.
