Remember that my life is but a breath.
My eye will never again see anything good.

12225

They responded: “We will return these things and require nothing more from them. We will do as you say.”

So I summoned the priests and made everyone take an oath to do this.

12226

and some of the priests’ sons with trumpets, and Zechariah son of Jonathan, son of Shemaiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micaiah, son of Zaccur, son of Asaph followed

12227

along with Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam,

12228

from Beth-gilgal, and from the fields of Geba and Azmaveth, for they had built villages for themselves around Jerusalem.

12229

Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah,

12230

As soon as the text of King Artaxerxes’ letter was read to Rehum, Shimshai the scribe, and their colleagues, they immediately went to the Jews in Jerusalem and forcibly stopped them.

12231

Then David took up residence in the stronghold; therefore, it was called the city of David.

12232

When there is famine on the earth,
when there is pestilence,
when there is blight, mildew, locust, or grasshopper,
when their enemies besiege them
in the region of their fortified cities,
when there is any plague or illness,

12233

We also asked them for their names, so that we could write down the names of their leaders for your information.

12234

Rehoboam also showed discernment by dispersing some of his sons to all the regions of Judah and Benjamin and to all the fortified cities. He gave them plenty of provisions and sought many wives for them.

12235

Israel is in rebellion against the house of David until today.

12236

Ahaziah had fallen through the latticed window of his upper room in Samaria and was injured. So he sent messengers instructing them: “Go inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, if I will recover from this injury.”

12237

Then the king asked her, “What’s the matter?”

She said, “This woman said to me, ‘Give up your son, and we will eat him today. Then we will eat my son tomorrow.’

12238

Abishua, Naaman, Ahoah,

12239

Mishma’s sons: his son Hammuel, his son Zaccur, and his son Shimei.

12240

Nevertheless, the Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in My sight and have done to the house of Ahab all that was in My heart, four generations of your sons will sit on the throne of Israel.”

12241

“There is a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. Look, I have sent you a gift of silver and gold. Go and break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so that he will withdraw from me.”

12242

Solomon did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, and unlike his father David, he did not completely follow Yahweh.

12243

These were Etam’s sons: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash, and their sister was named Hazzelelponi.

12244

“No,” the other woman said. “My son is the living one; your son is the dead one.”

The first woman said, “No, your son is the dead one; my son is the living one.” So they argued before the king.

12245

So she set out and went to the man of God at Mount Carmel.

When the man of God saw her at a distance, he said to his attendant Gehazi, “Look, there’s the Shunammite woman.

12246

but one tribe will remain his because of my servant David and because of Jerusalem, the city I chose out of all the tribes of Israel.

12247

“Say to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, to the whole house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people,

12248

“Suppose we do go,” Saul said to his attendant, “what do we take the man? The food from our packs is gone, and there’s no gift to take to the man of God. What do we have?”

12249

You know that Abner son of Ner came to deceive you and to find out about your activities and everything you’re doing.”

12250

The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim. Israel was greatly oppressed,

12251

“When Jacob went to Egypt, your ancestors cried out to the Lord, and He sent them Moses and Aaron, who led your ancestors out of Egypt and settled them in this place.

12252

They surrounded the Benjaminites, pursued them, and easily overtook them near Gibeah toward the east.

12253

The men in ambush had rushed quickly against Gibeah; they advanced and put the whole city to the sword.

12254

“You must not cut his hair throughout the time of his vow of consecration. He must be holy until the time is completed during which he consecrates himself to the Lord; he is to let the hair of his head grow long.

12255

The Angel of the Lord said to him, “If I stay, I won’t eat your food. But if you want to prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the Lord.” For Manoah did not know He was the Angel of the Lord.

12256

The stars fought from the heavens;
the stars fought with Sisera from their courses.

12257

His mother’s relatives spoke all these words about him in the presence of all the lords of Shechem, and they were favorable to Abimelech, for they said, “He is our brother.”

12258

Kings came and fought.
Then the kings of Canaan fought
at Taanach by the waters of Megiddo,
but they took no spoil of silver.

12259

So Israel became poverty-stricken because of Midian, and the Israelites cried out to the Lord.

12260

Even the handle went in after the blade, and Eglon’s fat closed in over it, so that Ehud did not withdraw the sword from his belly. And Eglon’s insides came out.

12261

They went out with all their armies—a multitude as numerous as the sand on the seashore—along with a vast number of horses and chariots.

12262

Lord God, You have begun to show Your greatness and power to Your servant, for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can perform deeds and mighty acts like Yours?

12263

Joseph’s bones, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the parcel of land Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for 100 qesitahs. It was an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.

12264

Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, Azekah,

12265

the king of Eglonone the king of Gezer one

12266

the Shuphamite clan from Shupham;
the Huphamite clan from Hupham.

12267

When you sound short blasts a second time, the camps pitched on the south are to set out. Short blasts are to be sounded for them to set out.

12268

then you and your household may eat it anywhere. It is your wage in return for your work at the tent of meeting.

12270

You must not go outside the entrance to the tent of meeting or you will die, for the Lord’s anointing oil is on you.” So they did as Moses said.

12271

The Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I stretch out My hand against Egypt, and bring out the Israelites from among them.”

12272

Moses responded to the people, “Don’t be afraid, for God has come to test you, so that you will fear Him and will not sin.”

12273

You are to put oil and frankincense on it; it is a grain offering.

12274

Then Agrippa said to Paul, “Are you going to persuade me to become a Christian so easily?”

12275

The Gershonite clans camped behind the tabernacle on the west side,

12276

So they came forward and carried them in their tunics outside the camp, as Moses had said.

12277

When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in the form of men!”

12278

Now by the time of supper, the Devil had already put it into the heart of Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son, to betray Him.

12279

so that I may reveal it as I am required to speak.

12283

and all the brothers who are with me:

To the churches of Galatia.

12284

We can buy the poor with silver
and the needy for a pair of sandals
and even sell the chaff!”

12285

So He told them this parable:

12286

When these men entered Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him.

12287

who said, “The Lord has certainly been raised, and has appeared to Simon!”

12288

how he entered the house of God, and they ate the sacred bread, which is not lawful for him or for those with him to eat, but only for the priests?

12289

The next day, the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea knew there had been only one boat. They also knew that Jesus had not boarded the boat with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone off alone.

12290

He appointed the Twelve:

To Simon, He gave the name Peter;

12291

Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables, and He would not speak anything to them without a parable,

12292

Your court officials are like the swarming locust,
and your scribes like clouds of locusts,
which settle on the walls on a cold day;
when the sun rises, they take off,
and no one knows where they are.

12293

they will be like warriors in battle
trampling down the mud of the streets.
They will fight because the Lord is with them,
and they will put horsemen to shame.

12294

Then Belshazzar gave an order, and they clothed Daniel in purple, placed a gold chain around his neck, and issued a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

12295

I will repay you for the years
that the swarming locust ate,
the young locust, the destroying locust,
and the devouring locust—
My great army that I sent against you.

12296

Then the cherubim, with the wheels beside them, lifted their wings, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.

12297

They will consume your harvest and your food.
They will consume your sons and your daughters.
They will consume your flocks and your herds.
They will consume your vines and your fig trees.
They will destroy with the sword
your fortified cities in which you trust.

12298

They have blown the trumpet
and prepared everything,
but no one goes to war,
for My wrath is on all her masses.

12299

You must say to the prophet: What has the Lord answered you? and What has the Lord spoken?

12300

They have returned to the sins of their ancestors who refused to obey My words and have followed other gods to worship them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah broke My covenant I made with their ancestors.

12301

You must tell them: This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let a curse be on the man who does not obey the words of this covenant,

12302

Over all the barren heights in the wilderness
the destroyers have come,
for the Lord has a sword that devours
from one end of the earth to the other.
No one has peace.

12303

What more could I have done for My vineyard
than I did?
Why, when I expected a yield of good grapes,
did it yield worthless grapes?

12304

The prophets prophesy falsely,
and the priests rule by their own authority.
My people love it like this.
But what will you do at the end of it?

12305

Wail, you gates! Cry out, city!
Tremble with fear, all Philistia!
For a cloud of dust is coming from the north,
and there is no one missing from the invader’s ranks.

12306

From the time of our youth
the shameful one has consumed
what our fathers have worked for—
their flocks and their herds,
their sons and their daughters.

12307

But this is not what he intends;
this is not what he plans.
It is his intent to destroy
and to cut off many nations.

12308

For a prostitute is a deep pit,
and a stranger is a narrow well;

12309

I said about laughter, “It is madness,” and about pleasure, “What does this accomplish?”

12310

He dug a pit and hollowed it out
but fell into the hole he had made.

12311

He makes my feet like the feet of a deer
and sets me securely on the heights.

12312

So we fasted and pleaded with our God about this, and He granted our request.

12313

I have seen a fool taking root,
but I immediately pronounced a curse on his home.

12314

Iddo, Ginnethoi, Abijah,

12315

with 1,200 chariots, 60,000 cavalrymen, and countless people who came with him from Egypt—Libyans, Sukkiim, and Cushites.

12316

Shecaniah, Rehum, Meremoth,

12317

Beside him Shallum son of Hallohesh, ruler over half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs—he and his daughters.

12318

Joel son of Zichri was the officer over them, and Judah son of Hassenuah was second in command over the city.

12319

You must deliver to the God of Jerusalem all the articles given to you for the service of the house of your God.

12320

Powerful kings have also ruled over Jerusalem and exercised authority over the whole region, and tribute, duty, and land tax were paid to them.

12321

The king sent a reply to his chief deputy Rehum, Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their colleagues living in Samaria and elsewhere in the region west of the Euphrates River:

Greetings.

12322

Rehoboam stayed in Jerusalem, and he fortified cities in Judah.

12323

may You hear in heaven
and forgive the sin of Your people Israel.
May You restore them to the land
You gave them and their ancestors.

12324

Then the king turned and blessed the entire congregation of Israel while they were standing.

12325

David steadily grew more powerful, and the Lord of Hosts was with him.

12326

Elkanah, Isshiah, Azarel, Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites;

12327

Then Jehu and Jehonadab son of Rechab entered the temple of Baal, and Jehu said to the servants of Baal, “Look carefully to see that there are no servants of the Lord here among you—only servants of Baal.”

12328

Then she gave the king four and a half tons of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. Never again did such a quantity of spices arrive as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

12329

The Benjaminites: Sallu son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah;

12330

Ishpan, Eber, Eliel,

12331

Joel’s sons: his son Shemaiah,
his son Gog, his son Shimei,

12332

Joram turned around and fled, shouting to Ahaziah, “It’s treachery, Ahaziah!”

12333

The tops of the pillars were shaped like lilies. Then the work of the pillars was completed.

12334

When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He set his affairs in order and hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father’s tomb.

12335

In the third year of Judah’s King Asa, Baasha killed Nadab and reigned in his place.

12336

This is what happened to him: the people trampled him in the gateway, and he died.

12337

It was paneled above with cedar at the top of the chambers that rested on 45 pillars, 15 per row.

12338

Then the Israelites cried out to the Lord, because Jabin had 900 iron chariots, and he harshly oppressed them 20 years.

12339

He went to his father’s house in Ophrah and killed his 70 brothers, the sons of Jerubbaal, on top of a large stone. But Jotham, the youngest son of Jerubbaal, survived, because he hid himself.

12340

So Nathan told the king, “Go and do all that is on your heart, for the Lord is with you.”

12341

Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi said to her, “My daughter, shouldn’t I find security for you, so that you will be taken care of?

12342

because they will turn your sons away from Me to worship other gods. Then the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you.

12344

When I saw that you weren’t going to deliver me, I took my life in my own hands and crossed over to the Ammonites, and the Lord handed them over to me. Why then have you come today to fight against me?”

12345

Zebulun was a people risking their lives,
Naphtali also, on the heights of the battlefield.

12346

When Jair died, he was buried in Kamon.

12347

She replied, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me the springs of water also.” So he gave her the upper and lower springs.

12348

Moab became subject to Israel that day, and the land was peaceful 80 years.

12349

Ehud escaped while the servants waited. He crossed over the Jordan near the carved images and reached Seirah.

12350

So Joshua and his whole military force, including all the fighting men, came from Gilgal.

12351

“Two men went up to the temple complex to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

12352

On this particular day you are not to do any work, for it is a Day of Atonement to make atonement for yourselves before the Lord your God.

12353

“When he makes her drink the water, if she has defiled herself and been unfaithful to her husband, the water that brings a curse will enter her and cause bitter suffering; her belly will swell, and her thigh will shrivel. She will become a curse among her people.

12354

The Lord told Joshua,

12355

They told Joshua, “The Lord has handed over the entire land to us. Everyone who lives in the land is also panicking because of us.”

12356

The Lord spoke to Moses,

12357

He will require the woman to drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and it will enter her and cause bitter suffering.

12358

But if you have gone astray while under your husband’s authority, if you have defiled yourself and a man other than your husband has slept with you’—

12359

Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal-peor, for the Lord your God destroyed every one of you who followed Baal of Peor.

12360

“Tell Aaron and his sons how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:

12361

He will present them before the Lord and make atonement on her behalf; she will be clean from her discharge of blood. This is the law for a woman giving birth, whether to a male or female.

12362

“I commanded you at that time: The Lord your God has given you this land to possess. All your fighting men will cross over in battle formation ahead of your brothers the Israelites.

12363

Their duties involved the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the sanctuary utensils that were used with these, and the screen—and all the work relating to them.

12364

So God created the large sea-creatures and every living creature that moves and swarms in the water, according to their kinds. He also created every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

12365

but he washed the entrails and shanks with water. He then burned the entire ram on the altar. It was a burnt offering for a pleasing aroma, a fire offering to the Lord as He had commanded Moses.

12366

In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf concerning the sin he has committed in any of these cases, and he will be forgiven. The rest will belong to the priest, like the grain offering.”

12367

The Lord spoke to Moses:

12368

But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you. They will hand you over to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of My name.

12369

“You are to make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue yarn.

12370

“If his offering is a goat, he is to present it before the Lord.

12371

Therefore give orders to bring your livestock and all that you have in the field into shelters. Every person and animal that is in the field and not brought inside will die when the hail falls on them.”

12372

Moses was 80 years old and Aaron 83 when they spoke to Pharaoh.

12373

and that He may send Jesus, who has been appointed for you as the Messiah.

12374

The girl ran and told her mother’s household about these things.

12375

Aaron’s son Eleazar married
one of the daughters of Putiel
and she bore him Phinehas.
These are the heads of the Levite families by their clans.

12376

Without a doubt, the inferior is blessed by the superior.

12377

Now Noah lived 350 years after the flood.

12378

All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son desires to reveal Him.”

12379

However, the Most High does not dwell in sanctuaries made with hands, as the prophet says:

12380

Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons approached Him with her sons. She knelt down to ask Him for something.

12381

Then His mother and brothers came to Him, but they could not meet with Him because of the crowd.

12382

I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and He said:

Strike the capitals of the pillars
so that the thresholds shake;
knock them down on the heads of all the people.
Then I will kill the rest of them with the sword.
None of those who flee will get away;
none of the fugitives will escape.

12383

I will ransom them from the power of Sheol.
I will redeem them from death.
Death, where are your barbs?
Sheol, where is your sting?
Compassion is hidden from My eyes.

12384

Draw water for the siege;
strengthen your fortresses.
Step into the clay and tread the mortar;
take hold of the brick-mold!

12385

Though I sow them among the nations,
they will remember Me in the distant lands;
they and their children will live and return.

12386

This is the interpretation of the message:

MENE means that God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end.

12388

all the sheep and oxen,
as well as the animals in the wild,

12389

You are also to drink water by measure, a sixth of a gallon, which you will drink from time to time.

12391

I will discipline them at My discretion;
nations will be gathered against them
to put them in bondage
for their two crimes.

12392

Yet they would not obey or pay attention; each one followed the stubbornness of his evil heart. So I brought on them all the curses of this covenant, because they had not done what I commanded them to do.”

12393

There will be nothing to do
except crouch among the prisoners
or fall among the slain.
In all this, His anger is not removed,
and His hand is still raised to strike.

12394

the Lord will certainly bring against them
the mighty rushing waters of the Euphrates River—
the king of Assyria and all his glory.
It will overflow its channels
and spill over all its banks.

12395

May the Lord cut off all flattering lips
and the tongue that speaks boastfully.

12396

If they refuse to take the cup from you and drink, you are to say to them: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: You must drink!

12398

God has also given riches and wealth to every man, and He has allowed him to enjoy them, take his reward, and rejoice in his labor. This is a gift of God,

12399

See, the wicked one is pregnant with evil,
conceives trouble, and gives birth to deceit.

12400

His roots are intertwined around a pile of rocks.
He looks for a home among the stones.

12402

fear and trembling came over me
and made all my bones shake.

12403

But if you earnestly seek God
and ask the Almighty for mercy,

12404

When the young women were assembled together for a second time, Mordecai was sitting at the King’s Gate.

12405

and Maaseiah son of Baruch, son of Col-hozeh, son of Hazaiah, son of Adaiah, son of Joiarib, son of Zechariah, a descendant of the Shilonite.

12406

These are the heads of the province who stayed in Jerusalem (but in the villages of Judah each lived on his own property in their towns—the Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants, and descendants of Solomon’s servants

12407

Malluch, Harim, Baanah.

12408

“Do not touch My anointed ones
or harm My prophets.”

12409

Rehum, Hashabnah, Maaseiah,

12410

Bebai’s descendants: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai;

12411

He said:

May the Lord God of Israel be praised!
He spoke directly to my father David,
and He has fulfilled the promise
by His power.
He said,

12412

He built up the city all the way around, from the supporting terraces to the surrounding parts, and Joab restored the rest of the city.

12413

He began to build on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.

12414

Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,

12415

As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, “My lord the king, help!”

12416

Ibneiah son of Jeroham;
Elah son of Uzzi, son of Michri;
Meshullam son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah;

12417

These people from the descendants of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh settled in Jerusalem:

12418

Then Joash said to the priests, “All the dedicated money brought to the Lord’s temple, census money, money from vows, and all money voluntarily given for the Lord’s temple,

12419

Gedor, Ahio, Zecher,

12420

Elienai, Zillethai, Eliel,

12421

but he did not turn away from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit—worshiping the gold calves that were in Bethel and Dan.

12422

his son Rephah, his son Resheph,
his son Telah, his son Tahan,

12423

Then his servants carried him to Jerusalem in a chariot and buried him in his fathers’ tomb in the city of David.

12424

Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon when he was alive, asking, “How do you advise me to respond to these people?”

12425

“You know my father David was not able to build a temple for the name of Yahweh his God. This was because of the warfare all around him until the Lord put his enemies under his feet.

12426

Then the man of God approached and said to the king of Israel, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Because the Arameans have said: Yahweh is a god of the mountains and not a god of the valleys, I will hand over all this great army to you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

12427

Then he made 10 bronze water carts. Each water cart was six feet long, six feet wide, and 4½ feet high.

12428

The lowest chamber was 7½ feet wide, the middle was nine feet wide, and the third was 10½ feet wide. He also provided offset ledges for the temple all around the outside so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.

12429

So don’t let him go unpunished, for you are a wise man. You know how to deal with him to bring his gray head down to Sheol with blood.”

12430

When it was reported to David, “Uriah didn’t go home,” David questioned Uriah, “Haven’t you just come from a journey? Why didn’t you go home?”

12431

so that Your name will be exalted forever, when it is said, “The Lord of Hosts is God over Israel.” The house of Your servant David will be established before You

12432

He said to them, “The Lord is a witness against you, and His anointed is a witness today that you haven’t found anything in my hand.”

“He is a witness,” they said.

12434

David told the messenger, “Say this to Joab: ‘Don’t let this matter upset you because the sword devours all alike. Intensify your fight against the city and demolish it.’ Encourage him.”

12435

Then Samuel said to the cook, “Get the portion of meat that I gave you and told you to set aside.”

12436

The attendant answered Saul: “Here, I have a piece of silver. I’ll give it to the man of God, and he will tell us our way.”

12437
