13215

Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of furnace soot, and Moses is to throw it toward heaven in the sight of Pharaoh.

13217

And I looked, and there was a pale green horse. The horseman on it was named Death, and Hades was following after him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill by the sword, by famine, by plague, and by the wild animals of the earth.

13218

The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron:

13219

“As soon as I leave you,” Moses said, “I will appeal to the Lord, and tomorrow the swarms of flies will depart from Pharaoh, his officials, and his people. But Pharaoh must not act deceptively again by refusing to let the people go and sacrifice to the Lord.”

13220

After Lot had separated from him, the Lord said to Abram, “Look from the place where you are. Look north and south, east and west,

13221

and you who dwell in them!
Woe to the earth and the sea,
for the Devil has come down to you
with great fury,
because he knows he has a short time.

13223

So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You heard Me.

13226

So they stayed there for some time and spoke boldly in reliance on the Lord, who testified to the message of His grace by granting that signs and wonders be performed through them.

the One who forms the mountains,

and reveals His thoughts to man,
the One who makes the dawn out of darkness
and strides on the heights of the earth.
Yahweh, the God of Hosts, is His name.

They have installed kings,
but not through Me.
They have appointed leaders,
but without My approval.
They make their silver and gold
into idols for themselves
for their own destruction.

13242

King Nebuchadnezzar made a gold statue, 90 feet high and nine feet wide. He set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.

13243

Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, “Look up and see what this is that is approaching.”

13244

My people, what have I done to you,
or how have I wearied you?
Testify against Me!

13245

Because you have disheartened the righteous person with lies, even though I have not caused him grief, and because you have encouraged the wicked person not to turn from his evil way to save his life,

13246

Then the glory of the Lord moved away from the threshold of the temple and stood above the cherubim.

13247

Their faces looked like the same faces I had seen by the Chebar Canal. Each creature went straight ahead.

13248

Like a cage full of birds,
so their houses are full of deceit.
Therefore they have grown powerful and rich.

13249

Come, let’s drink deeply of lovemaking until morning.
Let’s feast on each other’s love!

13250

Therefore say to them: This is what the Lord God says: None of My words will be delayed any longer. The message I speak will be fulfilled.” This is the declaration of the Lord God.

13251

The city will not be a pot for you, and you will not be the meat within it. I will judge you at the border of Israel,

13252

I am broken by the brokenness
of my dear people.
I mourn; horror has taken hold of me.

13253

“This is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Correct your ways and your deeds, and I will allow you to live in this place.

13254

in the end she’s as bitter as wormwood
and as sharp as a double-edged sword.

13255

But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you will say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says.’ Let the one who listens, listen, and let the one who refuses, refuse—for they are a rebellious house.

13256

And you, devastated one, what are you doing
that you dress yourself in scarlet,
that you adorn yourself with gold jewelry,
that you enlarge your eyes with paint?
You beautify yourself for nothing.
Your lovers reject you;
they want to take your life.

13257

Should your springs flow in the streets,
streams of water in the public squares?

13258

When people ask, ‘For what offense has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ You will respond to them: Just as you abandoned Me and served foreign gods in your land, so will you serve strangers in a land that is not yours.

13259

How long must I see the signal flag
and hear the sound of the ram’s horn?

13260

Don’t testify against your neighbor without cause.
Don’t deceive with your lips.

A slacker’s craving will kill him
because his hands refuse to work.

While he was facing the square in front of the Water Gate, he read out of it from daybreak until noon before the men, the women, and those who could understand. All the people listened attentively to the book of the law.

13264

Pay attention to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for I pray to You.

13265

So we continued the work, while half of the men were holding spears from daybreak until the stars came out.

13266

If only my grief could be weighed
and my devastation placed with it in the scales.

13267

My friends scoff at me
as I weep before God.

13268

You may use the royal treasury to pay for anything else needed for the house of your God.

Azmaveth’s people42

13273

And she answered, “Everything’s all right.”

13283

The servants waited until they became worried and saw that he had still not opened the doors of the upstairs room. So they took the key and opened the doors—and there was their lord lying dead on the floor!

13284

In that state He also went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison

13306

But Moses said, “It would not be right to do that, because what we will sacrifice to the Lord our God is detestable to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice what the Egyptians detest in front of them, won’t they stone us?

In His own time He has revealed His message in the proclamation that I was entrusted with by the command of God our Savior:

13311

Watch out for him yourself because he strongly opposed our words.

13318

When they read it, they rejoiced because of its encouragement.

13319

Then they said to Him, “John’s disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but Yours eat and drink.”

I gave you absolutely nothing to eat
in all your cities,
a shortage of food in all your communities,
yet you did not return to Me.
This is the Lord’s declaration.

13324

“Ah!” His disciples said. “Now You’re speaking plainly and not using any figurative language.

13325

“You are from below,” He told them, “I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

13326

Two others—criminals—were also led away to be executed with Him.

13327

The cherubim lifted their wings and ascended from the earth right before my eyes; the wheels were beside them as they went. The glory of the God of Israel was above them, and it stood at the entrance to the eastern gate of the Lord’s house.

13329

See, your house is left to you desolate.

13330

But when a righteous person turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, committing the same detestable acts that the wicked do, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. He will die because of the treachery he has engaged in and the sin he has committed.

13331

He stretched out what appeared to be a hand and took me by the hair of my head. Then the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the inner gate that faces north, where the offensive statue that provokes jealousy was located.

13332

therefore you will no longer see false visions or practice divination. I will deliver My people from your hands. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”

13333

I spoke to the exiles about all the things the Lord had shown me.

like an ox going to the slaughter,

Break up the unplowed ground;

13338

I appointed watchmen over you
and said: Listen for the sound of the ram’s horn.
But they protested, “We won’t listen!”

13339

Here is a tragedy I have observed under the sun, and it weighs heavily on humanity:

13340

I saw all the living, who move about under the sun, follow a second youth who succeeds him.

13341

For then it would outweigh the sand of the seas!
That is why my words are rash.

13342

Still, none of this satisfies me since I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the King’s Gate all the time.”

13343

So Haman took the garment and the horse. He clothed Mordecai and paraded him through the city square, crying out before him, “This is what is done for the man the king wants to honor.”

13344

He also took from the temple in Babylon the gold and silver articles of God’s house that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem and carried them to the temple in Babylon. He released them from the temple in Babylon to a man named Sheshbazzar, the governor by the appointment of King Cyrus.

13345

I selected 12 of the leading priests, along with Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and 10 of their brothers.

13346

And you, Ezra, according to God’s wisdom that you possess, appoint magistrates and judges to judge all the people in the region west of the Euphrates who know the laws of your God and to teach anyone who does not know them.

13347

The Lord made a covenant with them and commanded them, “Do not fear other gods; do not bow down to them; do not serve them; do not sacrifice to them.

13348

So the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “Yahweh is righteous.”

13349

But I didn’t believe their reports until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, I was not even told half of your great wisdom! You far exceed the report I heard.

13350

She said to her mistress, “If only my master would go to the prophet who is in Samaria, he would cure him of his skin disease.”

13351

When Rehoboam humbled himself, the Lord’s anger turned away from him, and He did not destroy him completely. Besides that, conditions were good in Judah.

13352

King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and committed them into the care of the captains of the royal escorts who guarded the entrance to the king’s palace.

13353

Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,

13355

He is not to eat anything produced by the grapevine, from seeds to skin, during his vow.

13356

May it hang over Joab’s head and his father’s whole house, and may the house of Joab never be without someone who has a discharge or a skin disease, or a man who can only work a spindle, or someone who falls by the sword or starves.”

13362

Rehoboam replied, “Go home for three days and then return to me.” So the people left.

13363

Saul and all the troops with him assembled and marched to the battle, and there, the Philistines were fighting against each other in great confusion!

13364

They look, but there is no one to save them—
they look to the Lord, but He does not answer them.

13365

At that time they struck down about 10,000 Moabites, all strong and able-bodied men. Not one of them escaped.

13366

They took the things from inside the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites, and spread them out in the Lord’s presence.

13367

So Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up from the Jordan.”

13368

“Choose 12 men from the people, one man for each tribe,

13369

“You must consecrate to the Lord your God every firstborn male produced by your herd and flock. You are not to put the firstborn of your oxen to work or shear the firstborn of your flock.

13370

The Lord replied to Moses,

13371

Moses slaughtered it, took some of its blood, and put it on Aaron’s right earlobe, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.

13372

Any male among Aaron’s descendants may eat it. It is a permanent portion throughout your generations from the fire offerings to the Lord. Anything that touches the offerings will become holy.”

13373

“Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it with pitch inside and outside.

13374

13383

He made a screen embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen for the entrance to the tent,

But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? What kind of body will they have when they come?”

13396

Saul, however, was ravaging the church. He would enter house after house, drag off men and women, and put them in prison.

13397

But they have been told about you that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to abandon Moses, by telling them not to circumcise their children or to walk in our customs.

13398

he said, “I will give you a hearing whenever your accusers get here too.” And he ordered that he be kept under guard in Herod’s palace.

13399

while many of those who had practiced magic collected their books and burned them in front of everyone. So they calculated their value and found it to be 50,000 pieces of silver.

13400

I called to the Lord in my distress,
and He answered me.
I cried out for help in the belly of Sheol;
You heard my voice.

13401

If they hide themselves
on the top of Carmel,
from there I will track them down
and seize them;
if they conceal themselves
from My sight on the sea floor,
from there I will command
the sea serpent to bite them.

13402

“I have told you these things to keep you from stumbling.

13403

One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at His feet

13404

When evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,

13405

13406

And He responded to them, “Do you think that these Galileans were more sinful than all Galileans because they suffered these things?

13407

The best of them is like a brier;
the most upright is worse than a hedge of thorns.
The day of your watchmen,
the day of your punishment, is coming;
at this time their panic is here.

13408

The Lord relented concerning this. “It will not happen,” He said.

13409

I looked, and there were four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub. The luster of the wheels was like the gleam of beryl.

13410

I trained and strengthened their arms,
but they plot evil against Me.

13411

But if you will not listen,
my innermost being will weep in secret
because of your pride.
My eyes will overflow with tears,
for the Lord’s flock has been taken captive.

13412

when I heal Israel,
the sins of Ephraim and the crimes of Samaria
will be exposed.
For they practice fraud;
a thief breaks in;
a raiding party pillages outside.

13414

“Son of man, notice that the house of Israel is saying, ‘The vision that he sees concerns many years from now; he prophesies about distant times.’

13415

All the people—
Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria—will know it.
They will say with pride and arrogance:

13416

On that day they will roar over it,
like the roaring of the sea.
When one looks at the land,
there will be darkness and distress;
light will be obscured by clouds.

13417

he lurks in secret like a lion in a thicket.
He lurks in order to seize the afflicted;
he seizes the afflicted and drags him in his net.

13418

He says to himself, “I will never be moved—
from generation to generation without calamity.”

13419

His ways are always secure;
Your lofty judgments are beyond his sight;
he scoffs at all his adversaries.

13420

“I will bring you out of the city and hand you over to foreigners; I will execute judgments against you.

13421

Their roaring is like a lion’s;
they roar like young lions;
they growl and seize their prey
and carry it off,
and no one can rescue it.

13422

for you know that many times you yourself have cursed others.

13424

In the first year of King Cyrus, he issued a decree concerning the house of God in Jerusalem:

Let the house be rebuilt as a place for offering sacrifices, and let its original foundations be retained. Its height is to be 90 feet and its width 90 feet,

13425

if you are pure and upright,
then He will move even now on your behalf
and restore the home where your righteousness dwells.

13426

For he adds rebellion to his sin;
he scornfully claps in our presence,
while multiplying his words against God.

13427

Cyrus told him, “Take these articles, put them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site.”

13428

Next to him Hananiah son of Shelemiah and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph made repairs to another section.

After them Meshullam son of Berechiah made repairs opposite his room.

13429

Then, take the flask of oil, pour it on his head, and say, ‘This is what the Lord says: “I anoint you king over Israel.”’ Open the door and escape. Don’t wait.”

13434

“Watch me,” he said, “and do the same. When I come to the outpost of the camp, do as I do.

13435

How happy are your men. How happy are these servants of yours, who always stand in your presence hearing your wisdom.

13436

It was in the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab that Ahaziah had become king over Judah.

Has anything like this ever happened in your days
or in the days of your ancestors?

without scorching his feet?

They are saying, ‘Isn’t the time near to build houses? The city is the pot, and we are the meat.’

He waits in ambush near the villages;
he kills the innocent in secret places.
His eyes are on the lookout for the helpless;

13692

so that you may maintain discretion
and your lips safeguard knowledge.

They do not speak what is right.
No one regrets his evil,

Everyone has stayed his course
like a horse rushing into battle.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war,

13695

and have not disregarded His statutes.

A word was brought to me in secret;
my ears caught a whisper of it.

yet not understand;
otherwise, they might turn back—
and be forgiven.

The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”

Lord, don’t Your eyes look for faithfulness?
You have struck them, but they felt no pain.
You finished them off,
but they refused to accept discipline.
They made their faces harder than rock,
and they refused to return.

13778

Say to them: This is what the Lord God says: This oracle is about the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are living there.

13779

My dear people, dress yourselves in sackcloth
and roll in the dust.
Mourn as you would for an only son,
a bitter lament,
for suddenly the destroyer will come on us.
